3 WORSHIP NEWS Contact: Wayne Efferson, Director of Worship , x206 or THREE-RING VOCATION Our missionary for the 2017 Missionary Cooperation Appeal this weekend will share what life/ministry is like under the Big Top in caring for the spiritual needs of members of the Circus. Sr. Bernard Overkamp, MSC, representing the Circus Ministry, will speak at all Masses about how she and Sr. Dorothy Fabritze, MSC bring spirituality to circus performers by sharing in their work and life. The Catholic Church in the USA has a history of reaching out to these communities since the 1920 s. These often neglected traveling communities have the same spiritual needs to be educated in their faith, receive the sacraments and be spiritually fed. Unfortunately, because they do not have roots in any geographical location they do not have the physical structures that would provide for this need. Sr. Bernard will be here to speak about their experiences of traveling with the circus people for fourteen years, their ministry to these people and some exciting plans for the future. A collection for the Missionary Cooperation Plan will follow Communion on July 29 & 30 and all funds received at Nativity Parish and all diocesan churches will be distributed equally to this year s participating plan communities; please be as generous as you are able. SEMINARIAN COLLECTION 2017 Our Seminarians Need Your Help: Our diocese has witnessed incredible growth in all vocations including the priesthood. Let s keep that going and support our future spiritual fathers! Please be generous with our Annual Seminarian Collection: Hope for the Future, Help Them Today. An important letter will arrive in your mailbox this week asking for your help. Next weekend is the kick off of this annual collection. Your donation provides tuition, room and board, insurance, a small stipend for our seminarians and will support the Vocation Office s efforts to call forth more candidates. The total annual cost of our 25 seminarians is around $1,000,000. As friends and followers of Jesus, we support each other. In order to make your gift today, visit: BOOK of INTERCESSIONS--Lord, Have Mercy: Prayer Intentions for Your Faith Community We are in need of a new Book of Intercessions for our people to write their prayer intentions; this is the book on the stand near the Reconciliation Room. This is a great memorial gift to honor a loved one. If you are interested in purchasing this new book the cost is $66. BOOK of INTERCESSIONS--Lord, Have Mercy: Prayer Intentions for Your Faith Community is located at the rear of church for our faith community to record petitions throughout the year. As a community, we remember these prayer requests at each Sunday Masses, when we gather all prayers during the Prayer of the Faithful. Feel free to add your petitions for the Lord and His community, whatever it may be.

4 WORSHIP MINISTRY Worship Ministry is looking to add members to its group in hopes of helping our parish prepare well for all liturgical celebrations (Mass). The LITURGY is the work of the FAITHFUL when we come to celebrate Sunday Eucharist (Mass). Our purpose, duty and responsibility is to direct in an orderly function, the spiritual and worship life at Nativity Parish. We foster spirituality of the Parish community through the encouragement and enhancement of daily prayer, devotions and other liturgical celebrations. In addition, we work closely with all Liturgical Ministries so that all who participate in the Mass by way of a ministry, e.g., Lectors, Ushers, may feel comfortable in their role as they serve the Assembly. There is so much to prepare when we gather for Mass so that the gospel message is effectively conveyed through music, scripture, art, environment and prayer. We meet on the second Thursday of the month from 6:00-7:30 pm. Bring your interests and talents to help us continue to be an Amazing Parish. Then maybe this is a volunteer/ministry opportunity that will suit you. We have been using our Multi-Media Video Projection System for about a year and a half and we heard how much more the assembly is participating at Mass, both in singing and in praying. Many have said that this technology is a wonderful addition to our celebration of the Eucharist. We have been blessed with a handful of dedicated operators since we started; however, we still need more assistance. We need a minimum of 12 Video volunteers/ministers, so WON T YOU HELP? You don t have to be a techy person to operate this system. If you know your way around a computer you will be a great fit. It is open to everyone and we must follow Jesus or we will not make it. Like Solomon, we need discerning judgment of what is good and evil. Sullivan....of a parishioner who is currently homebound, in a nursing home or assisted living facility. If you have a relative or friend who is not able to attend Mass, please notify the Parish Office at NURSING HOME VOLUNTEERS SUNDAY COMMUNION DISTRIBUTION Our brothers and sisters at Woodside Lutheran and Maple Ridge Nursing Homes long to receive Our Lord in the sacrament of Holy Communion. Bringing Holy Communion to these residents who cannot attend Mass is a long standing practice of our Catholic tradition; especially our parish of Nativity. For this ministry to be effective and sustained, more volunteers/ministers are needed, especially at Woodside Lutheran and Maple Ridge Nursing Homes. We are in desperate need of more volunteers/ ministers because some of our current members have left the ministry due to death, illness or taking leave after many years of service. This is a simple way to volunteer for an hour or so one Sunday a month. Visiting the sick is one of the Corporal Works of Mercy of our faith that we must practice in action. The faith-filled Catholic residents of these nursing homes long and look forward each Sunday to receive Communion. Won t you consider helping? 5 ANNUAL PILGRIMAGE SHRINE OF OUR LADY OF GOOD HELP September 30, 2017 UPDATE!!! Please sign up in the Narthex after weekend Masses. Let us know if you would like to reserve a seat on the bus to and from the Shrine or you can make your own arrangements for transportation. Busses will leave Nativity parking lot at 1:00 p.m. with the Pilgrimage event beginning at 2:00 p.m. The pilgrimage will not include the healing Mass at 11:00 a.m. (you can make your own arrangements if you choose to participate). The parish will not be providing food or refreshments during the pilgrimage. 6 IS GOD CALLING YOU TO BE A CATECHIST? Share the faith with our children and youth Grades 1 thru 11 Parents and other generous adults serving as Catechists are the reason why our Faith Formation programs are so effective. Many of us might feel called to serve as catechists, but do not feel we have enough knowledge of the faith to teach effectively. Not true remember, God doesn t call the equipped, He equips the called. Our staff, and fellow catechists, plus God s grace, are there for you! We will provide you with a Catechist Guide and lesson plans for each session. Our staff provides personal support and individual training for those with less experience. If you prefer to teach as part of a team or if you know of someone you would like to partner with - spouse, child, parent, friend? We very much welcome these arrangements. As a way of saying thanks for being a catechists, we waive the fee for one child enrolled in our Faith Formation program if a parent serves as a catechist or a stipend if no children are in the program. This is an enriching opportunity! Our 2016 M&M tube sales and quarter collection, allowed our Parish to contribute $8, to help cover the cost of the food that was packed. The Nativity Social Concerns Ministry is excited to provide this meaningful opportunity to our parishioners again this year. THANK YOU to the families who donated the cookies and bars for the N.E.W. Shelter meal. Your kindness is greatly appreciated. This year s pack will take place October 2-5, 2017, when our faith community will unite to make a difference in the lives of hungry children across our world. They demonstrate their strong and lasting faith through their frequent church attendance and dedicated volunteer efforts. We are so blessed to have them here at Nativity. SHELTER MEAL Once again we were blessed with a group of kindhearted people that served over 200 people at the NEW Shelter this July! The following people were instrumental in providing a great meal with love and smiles; Chris Diederich, Kane Martinson, Hayley Langel, Quin Diederich, Jen Diederich, Kimberly Krejcarek, Kevin Adams and Carissa & Deb Langenhuizen. A scrumptious meal of chicken, potatoes, stuffing, gravy, green beans, fruit cocktail and cookie/bars, donated by many wonderful parishioners, was served. What an amazing contribution to helping out those a little less fortunate. The Anointing of the Sick is a sacrament for those who are in need of physical, emotional, or spiritual healing.
