My Brothers & Sisters in Christ, God Bless your thoughtfulness! The Parish Staff and my friends have been asked over and over, what can we give Fr. Jack as he leaves us?. The best thing is your prayers for health and holiness! They are both a challenge. If you feel you want to do more, I THANK YOU, but know that I have most everything I need: furniture, books, pictures and statues. If you want to give me a gift card for Darden, BP, Grand Central or Menard s that is fine. If you prefer to take part in a major project, Jeremy Fass, our Picnic Chair, has agreed to help me replace the lower cabinet in my kitchen. I want to get a dishwasher and the Holy Father won t let her live-in, so I ll settle for a Kenmore. If you want to go that way, I ll send you a picture when it is finished. Please know that your support has been wonderful and I will pray for you daily. Please join me at my Farewell Celebration here at Nativity the weekend of April 29 & 30. Love & Prayers, OUR AMAZING PARISH PARISHIONERS Nativity is an Amazing Parish because of people like Craig and Monica Fletcher, who have been strong examples of parish involvement for many years. Craig and Monica have always been actively serving others much like Jesus did. Accomplishments: Craig belongs to the Knights of Columbus. He makes the Sacred Vine Altar Wine and is a scrip sponsor for the Mona Rose Winery. Craig has served as a Trustee for the parish (nearly four years) and is a member of the Parish Pastoral Council. He is a Eucharistic Minister and an Usher. Nativity is represented by Craig at the Quad Parishes Hope Center, which includes Love Life and St. Patrick s Food Pantry. Monica is a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Conference, a Eucharistic Minister, and a Carport Greeter. She brings Holy Communion to a nursing home on Sunday. Previously Monica was a youth group mentor, a Social Concerns Commission member (six years), and a Confirmation Catechist. She started the Rosebud Ministry. The couple are currently in training to be a FOCCUS couple for Marriage Preparation. Craig and Monica do all these things with a kind heart and a big smile. As we recognize them for the wonderful things they do for our parish, please greet them with a handshake, hug and/or a smile in thanks for all that they do. Note: Nativity Parish will recognize at least one parishioner, business sponsor or member of the community each week under our Amazing Parishioners section of the bulletin, which includes uploads to our Facebook and Web page. If you have a recognition topic, please contact the Parish Office at

4 WORSHIP NEWS Contact: Wayne Efferson, Servant Leader , x206 or PASCHAL TRIDUUM (HOLY WEEK) EASTER SUNDAY SIGN-UP SHEETS As we approach HOLY WEEK and EASTER, all Liturgical Ministers are requested to assist at these liturgies: Holy Thursday, April 13 7:00 PM Good Friday, April 14 1:00 PM & 7:00 PM Easter Vigil, April 15 8:00 PM Easter Sunday, April 16 8:30 AM & 10:15 AM (Bona Hall and Church) PALM SUNDAY PROCESSION The Sacramentary offers three forms for the entrance rites today; a procession, a solemn entrance and a simple entrance. This rite is not a stage play and the liturgy is not a reenactment; rather, it is the Church here and now, journeying with the Messiah into the holy city. Today we rejoice in the Son of David as we prepare ourselves to follow him to the cross. The assembly needs to walk; its members need to feel in their bodies the path they are taking. Approaching the cross is not something we can sit and watch someone else do! Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Palm Sunday Procession Illustration 2007 M. AFRICAN PALMS USA Since 1976, this outreach program of St. John s Church, Olney, MD sells more than 15 million (to 2,600 churches) annually. Over the years, grants support East African countries like Tanzania with self-help programs and community projects, such as (HIV/AIDS). The crosses are made by Africans from native palms. Since 1995, the Worship Ministry has made these available every Palm Sunday and collected donations well over $6,700. Every family is invited to take one on Palm Sunday (one/family since we have a limited number). Your donation will help to carry on this important mission work. Calling all Easter Vigil Choir Singers! (Easter Vigil Mass--8:00 PM April 15) If you have sung/played with this group before you know how exciting it is and if you haven t you might want to check it out. The Easter Vigil is the Mother of all Vigils and there s lots of music, with great variety and styles. We will begin our rehearsal on Wednesday, April 12 at 6:30 PM. If interested, contact Wayne Efferson and/or Michael Raught (natwe@nativityparish.com)/ , x206; Michael Raught (mrfr920@aol.com)/ STATIONS OF THE CROSS (MONDAYS THIS LENT) Two Styles Offered Traditional and Contemporary Traditional (scripture based) and Contemporary (reflections by Sr. Joan Chittisler Gateway to Resurrection). Note: Dates vary Monday, April 10 (Traditional) Veiling the Stations of the Cross and other religious icons will take place after the stripping of the altar on Holy Thursday; this is in preparation of Good Friday which requires that only one cross be visible (our main cross will be used during the Adoration of the Holy Cross). Stations of the Cross are held at 6:30 PM in Church. EASTER DECORATIONS Our Worship Ministry is preparing for Easter and needs your assistance to make our church environment reflect the joy of: CHRIST S RESURRECTION. We will begin at 9 AM on Saturday, April 15; please come for as long as your schedule allows. Lunch will be provided. If you can t help on Saturday, there may be something you could do during the week (Monday-Wednesday) in preparation of Holy Thursday and Good Friday. 4 Nativity of Our Lord Parish Please call Wayne at , x206 or natwe@nativityparish.com with your name and number of people if interested in assisting.

5 BEHOLD THE WOOD OF THE CROSS We need 8-10 people to carry our large cross in procession for the Adoration of the Holy Cross on Good Friday, at the 1:00 and 7:00 PM services. Please sign up in the Sacristy. HOLY THURSDAY COLLECTION EUCHARISTIC HOLY HOUR (WITH BENEDICTION) In Bishop Ricken s recent pastoral reflections, Teach My People to Pray, Phase 1 of Disciples on the Way: Prayer and Holiness, he asked that each parish offer a monthly Eucharistic Holy Hour Service. Since we, Nativity, currently offer Eucharistic Adoration each Monday (9:30 AM - 1:00 PM), we will include a Holy Hour Service (Benediction when a Deacon leads), on the second Monday of each Month. Our next HOLY HOUR will be on Monday, April 10 at 12:05 PM. This collection is for the Poor in Our Community. This is one of three collections that the Social Concerns Ministry distributes for our local poor. GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION for the Holy Land - April 14 Every day young families in the Holy Land try to live Christian lives as you do. These Christians living where Christ walked and taught, lived and died, still live in a land of war, death and destruction. The work of the Franciscan Friars for these native Christians, and the poor depends greatly on your generous support. Envelopes are available in the rear of Church, however they are not necessary since this is a separate collection. Please be as generous as you are able. We are looking to add members to its group in hopes of helping our parish prepare well for all liturgical celebrations (Mass). The LITURGY is the work of the FAITHFUL when we come to celebrate Sunday Eucharist (Mass). Our purpose, duty and responsibility is to direct in an orderly function, the spiritual and worship life at Nativity Parish. We foster spirituality of the parish community through the encouragement and enhancement of daily prayer, devotions and other liturgical celebrations. In addition, we work closely with all Liturgical Ministries so that all who participate in the Mass by way of a ministry, e.g. Lectors, Ushers, may feel comfortable in their role as they serve the Assembly. There is much to prepare when we gather for Mass so that the gospel message is effectively conveyed through music, scripture, art and environment, and prayer. We meet on the second Thursday of the month from 6-7:30 PM. Bring your interests and talents to help us continue to be an Amazing Parish. For more information, call Wayne Efferson, Worship Servant Leader at , x206. TAIZE PRAYER TAIZE prayer will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 26 at 6:30 PM (Chapel). TAIZE (pronounced ~~ Teh- ZAY) is an ecumenical, peaceful way to pray, using easy to learn musical chants, silent meditation and scripture readings.a meditative, common prayer. Gathered in faith, Christians come together to sing uncomplicated repetitive short songs, like breath prayers, uncluttered by too many words, allowing the mystery of God to become tangible through the beauty of the Spirit in its simplicity. A few words sung over and over again (mantra) reinforce the meditative quality of prayer. They express a basic reality of faith that can quickly be grasped by the intellect, and will gradually penetrate the whole being. For in-depth information visit The AFRICAN CHILDREN S CHOIR will once again be visiting our area and we are proud to host them for the sixth time on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 7:00 PM. Mark your calendar! More information about the Choir s visit will be forthcoming. This is a concert that you don t want to miss! Nativity of Our Lord Parish 5

Nativity of Our Lord Parish Council Members: BISHOP S APPEAL April 8-9, 2017 Growing Future Church Leaders Just as the early disciples traveled on the road to Emmaus with Jesus, today we have future church leaders journeying through the Emmaus program who will ultimately serve as parish lay ministers. Parishes benefit greatly by having lay ministers as Pastoral Associates, Parish Business Managers, Director of Religious Education and Religious Education Teachers. It takes approximately three years to complete the formation process. On this journey these people experience a remarkable spiritual awakening that they learn to share with others. By participating in classes, workshops, retreats and seminars, these leaders learn to use their love and skills to become the face of Christ to others. Their opportunity is made possible by the Bishop s Appeal. To make a gift to the Bishop s Appeal, visit the website at: Our Bishop s Appeal goal is.$90, parishioners have donated...$75, Amount needed to reach our goal...$15, Thank you for your support of the 2017 Bishop s Appeal.
