5 WORSHIP NEWS NEW LIFE CHOIR-(7TH - 12TH GRADES) For the past year we have been looking for a Choir Director to lead the New Life Choir; however, up to this point we have not been successful. Many of the members, especially the seniors, approached Ms. Teresa Schroepfer, AHS Choral Director, asking if she would lead them for a limited number of Masses. After some consideration, Teresa said yes and offered these tentative Mass Dates (5:00 PM): February 21, March 28, April 3 (Good Friday-7:00PM) and May 9 (Confirmation-7:00 PM). If you wish to join the group, please contact Ms. Schroepfer at Taschroep@new.rr.com or Wayne Efferson, Director of Worship, natwe@nativityparish.com, ext GOOD NEWS Capernaum, hometown of Simon and Andrew, became Jesus home base too. On the Sabbath, he went out to the synagogue to teach with authority over physical and spiritual evils. He dramatically cast out devils, curing Simon s mother-in-law and healing many other sick people. Jesus went about the messianic work. That labor came to fruition as he cast out death itself in his passover to resurrection. Bolstered by prayer, Jesus single-mindedly set out to spread the good news. How do we join him? Illustration 1999 S Erspamer WINTER/SPRING 2015 SCHEDULE The Winter/Spring Liturgical Ministers Schedule (January 31/ February 1-May 24/25) is currently in place. If you did not get yours via our website or a hard copy from the Narthex please contact Wayne ext. 206 or natwe@nativityparish.com TAIZE PRAYER Taize Prayer which was scheduled on February 18 has been moved to February11 because of Ash Wednesday. Taize (pronounced-- Teh-ZAY) is an ecumenical, peaceful way to pray, using easy to learn musical chants, silent meditation, and scripture readings...a meditative, common prayer. BLESSING OF THE THROATS Tuesday, February 3 The Feast of St. Blasé will be celebrated with the Blessing of Throats after Mass. St Blasé was the bishop of Sebaste in Armenia (Turkey). Before dying as a martyr to the Christian faith, he is said to have healed a boy who was choking. Since then, St. Blasé has been venerated as the patron of those who suffer from diseases of the throat. We pray in a special way on this day for protection from afflictions of the throat and other illnesses. Fr. Jack will offer this blessing as the final blessing to this weekend s Masses. PRESENTATION OF THE LORD is celebrated every February 2; this year it falls on Monday. This feast has been named Candlemas or Light Mass because the symbol of candles and lights are a sign of the divine splendor of the one who comes to expel the dark shadows of evil and to make the whole universe radiant with the brilliance of his eternal light. (Sophrainus, on the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord). From the manger to Jerusalem, this feast flows from the Nativity narratives proclaimed weeks earlier and sets the stage for the Lent/Easter Season. Since this feast is on Monday, we will bless any church and home candles on Tuesday, February 3 during the 9:00 AM Mass. So we invite you to bring your candles (put your name on them) and place them on the table at the front step of the altar. Also, there will be blessed candles available for you to purchase at $3/pair. WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION The celebration will take place this year on February 15. If you might be available and interested in helping with this event, please call Laurie Johnson, Family Life Director, at , ext. 209, or natlj@nativityparish.com. SAVE THE DATES FOR SOUP AND SUBSTANCE! During Lent, we schedule three Thursday evenings to gather for homemade soup and a speaker on a Lenten topic. Our dates this year are March 12, March 19 and March 26 at 6:00 PM. More details about speakers and topics will follow. SUNDAY CHILDCARE We are offering childcare for children 0-4 years during the 10:15 a.m. Mass on Sundays when there are Faith Formation classes. The nursery is located in the 200 hallway of the classroom wing. We are in need of adult and teen volunteers who could help approximately once a month. If you are available, please call Kim Lubenow, at or Klubenow@netnet.net. SECOND FRIDAY FOR SENIORS Friday, February 13 - Time: 9:00-11:00 AM Dr. Robin Goldsmith Anesthesiologist, President of the Gianna Molla Guild of Northeastern Wisconsin Joe Tremblay Adult Faith Formation Coordinator Place: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Topic: Gospel of Life at the End of Life (Moral & medical issues & insights with theological considerations relating to end of life issues) Please keep the families of Cleora Gillis & Marlene Wolf in your prayers. 5

8 I M TRYING TO FIT IN AND FOLLOW CHRIST My church is composed of people like me. I help make it what it is. It will be friendly, if I am. Its pews will be filled, if I help fill them. It will do great work, if I work. It will make generous gifts to many causes, if I am a generous giver. It will bring other people into its worship and fellowship, if I invite and bring them. It will be a church of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and of faith, and a church with a noble spirit, if I, who make it what it is, am filled with these same things. Therefore, with the help of God, I shall dedicate myself to the task of being all the things that I want my church to be.
