Each Easter you help beautify our worship space, through your memorial gift, and make it a sign of resurrection. The Easter Lily has been a prominent symbol of Easter because of its coming to life from the earth each spring. To contribute to this living memorial of flowers, use your Easter flower envelope and include the name(s) of living and/or deceased loved ones. A list of names will be included in the Easter Sunday bulletin. Deadline for the flower listing is Friday, April 5. Please Join us! Taize (pronounced-- Teh-ZAY) is an ecumenical, peaceful way to pray, using easy to learn musical chants, silent meditation, and scripture readings a meditative, common prayer. Gathered in faith, Christians come together to sing uncomplicated repetitive short songs, like breath prayers, uncluttered by too many words, allowing the mystery of God to become tangible through the beauty of the Spirit in its simplicity. A few words sung over and over again (mantra) reinforce the meditative quality of prayer. They express a basic reality of faith that can quickly be grasped by the intellect, and will gradually penetrate the whole being. 3 WORSHIP NEWS Contact: Wayne Efferson, Worship Leader x206 or OUR LENTEN JOURNEY On Ash Wednesday we were marked with an ashen cross on our foreheads and hear the words, Repent and believe in the gospel. This is a reminder of our dying and rising with the Lord through the waters of Baptism, to live out the Paschal Mystery (life, death and resurrection of our Lord). Lent is a time to look within our hearts to find why we chose and continue to be a follower of Jesus Christ. Let the waters of the Baptismal Font be a reminder of our call to live our baptismal commitments each time we make the sign of the cross with these life giving waters. However, our simple Cross [the Tree of Life; more than symbol of death, but rather a place and the experience in which death is transformed into life ( beta crux, the blessed cross)] is accented with vines and purple cloth which leads the eye to the Baptismal Font (and Holy Water Stands). And our bare church environment conveys a sense of being emptied out and being sustained by God alone. This journey to Easter is not just for us Catholics who have received the sacraments of initiation but also for those who want to join us in faith to be Missionary Disciples: Catechumens (the un-baptized who will be fully initiated into our faith at the Easter Vigil through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation & Holy Communion) and Candidates (Catholics and/or non-catholics who have been baptized but want to be fully initiated into the Catholic faith through the sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion). It is our hope that during these 40 days each of us will be renewed in faith through the Paschal Mystery. Though the most appropriate time for Baptism is the Easter Vigil and the Easter Season until Pentecost, baptisms can be celebrated in Lent (these will take place after Mass). Because the days of Holy Week (from Monday to Thursday inclusive) have precedence over all other celebrations, it is not fitting that Baptisms or Confirmations be celebrated on these days since they have their natural place in the Easter Vigil. This collection combines an appeal for four Catholic agencies who serve the poor and those living on the edge of society all over the world. This collection includes Catholic Relief Services, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, Peter s Pence, and the Pastoral Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa. In this collection you have a choice to contribute to any one or all four funds, by designating an amount for each. MUSIC FOR THE LENTEN GATHERING/ PENITENTIAL RITE Last Lent, we, the faithful, responded well to the new Lenten Gathering Rite, God of Creation by Ian Callahan, which incorporated both the Gathering Song and the Penitential Rite in one movement. Again, we will use this as our Lenten Gathering Rite. In addition we will introduce and use a new/old Mass setting, Jan Vermulst s Mass for Christian Unity. This Mass was written in 1964, following Vatican II, in response to the Church s call that the Mass be celebrated in the vernacular ( language of the people ; for Americans, from Latin to English) to enable and lead the faithful to a fuller, conscious and active participation. Some of us old enough will remember it primarily being used in the 60 s and 70 s. Because of its simple and familiar melody, we decided to use it for Lent We, also, will use a new Lenten song, In These Days of Lenten Journey, for the Sundays of Lent (Preparation of the Gifts). The Worship Ministry hopes this music will assist you in your Lenten journey. EASTER DECORATIONS Our Worship Ministry is preparing for Easter and needs your assistance so that our church reflects the joy of the RESURECTION Of OUR LORD. We will begin at 9:00 AM on Holy Saturday, April 20; please attend for as long as your schedule allows. Lunch will be provided. If you can t help on Saturday there may be something you could do during the week (Monday Wednesday) in preparation of Holy Thursday and Good Friday. Please contact Wayne Efferson if you are interested in helping. Thank you! LENTEN RESOURCES THE WORD AMONG US AND CRS RICE BOWL Will help you on your Lenten journey to Easter. They are free and located at the entrances.
