For Religion Education Sessions, please know that if Ashwaubenon public school classes are cancelled for the day, then there will be no Religion Education Sessions that evening. Late starts will not affect evening sessions. If weather worsens during the day, notification of any cancellation will appear on the major TV stations or call the Religion Education office at Lorraine Petersen is an amazing parishioner of Nativity Parish. She is and has been involved in a number of different projects and ministries at Nativity over the years. Lorraine is an active member of the Women s Guild and funeral ministry. Every month she showcases her talents as she helps out in the parish office. Lorraine is a key member of our mailing committee, and her smiling face selling scrip before and after Masses always provides a welcoming presence. Lorraine is so talented that she shares her gifts within the community too. She is an active member of the Ashwaubenon Historical Society. Lorraine is a humble servant of Christ and Nativity would like to recognize her for the wonderful things she does for our parish. When you see Lorraine in the community or around church, please give her a humble handshake, a hug and/or a smile and thank her for all that she has done. Note: Nativity Parish will recognize at least one parishioner, business sponsor or member of the community each week under our Amazing Parishioners section of the bulletin, which includes uploads to our Facebook and Web page. If you have a recognition topic, please contact the Parish Office at ADVERTISER OF THE WEEK CANCELLATION POLICY MASS/COMMUNION PRAYER SERVICE Severe winter weather conditions can make driving dangerous. Sometimes we need to make cancellations. Please know that if local school classes are cancelled for the day, OR if they are delayed then there will be no Mass or Communion Prayer Service that morning. If they are cancelled solely due to snow, the Parish Office will be closed as well. If you use our convenient Online Giving program, you never have to worry about forgetting your offering envelope at home and having to fill out a visitor envelope before collection. There is also an Online Giving app for your smart phone. Call the Parish Office at for more details on how to get started. 3

4 WORSHIP NEWS Contact: Wayne Efferson, Servant Leader , x206 or EUCHARISTIC HOLY HOUR (WITH BENEDICTION) In Bishop Ricken s recent pastoral reflections, Teach My People to Pray, Phase 1 of Disciples on the Way: Prayer and Holiness, he asked that each parish offer a monthly Eucharistic Holy Hour Service. Since we, Nativity, currently offer Eucharistic Adoration each Monday (9:30 AM - 1:00 PM), we will include a Holy Hour Service (Benediction when a Deacon leads), on the second Monday of each Month. Our next HOLY HOUR will be on Monday, January 9 at 12:05 PM. TAIZE PRAYER TAIZE prayer will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 18 at 6:30 PM (Chapel). TAIZE (pronounced ~~ Teh-ZAY) is an ecumenical, peaceful way to pray, using easy to learn musical chants, silent meditation and scripture readings.a meditative, common prayer. Gathered in faith, Christians come together to sing uncomplicated repetitive short songs, like breath prayers, uncluttered by too many words, allowing the mystery of God to become tangible through the beauty of the Spirit in its simplicity. A few words sung over and over again (mantra) reinforce the meditative quality of prayer. They express a basic reality of faith that can quickly be grasped by the intellect, and will gradually penetrate the whole being. For in-depth information visit LITURGICAL MINISTERS Winter/Spring 2017 Schedule (February - May) is currently being created. If you have any scheduling changes, please fill out a Scheduling Information form and submit it to: Wayne Efferson, Director of Worship, by January , x206 or natwe@nativityparish.com CRECHE - NATIVITY SCENE A little history of our Nativity Set at the rear of church This beautiful Fontanini set was given to our parish fourteen years ago by St. Mary s Hospital (Hospital Partners Women s Group) and the Three Kings were purchased by the Nativity Women s Guild. Again we are truly blessed to own such a treasure, given that we are The. In addition, the 15 foot artificial tree was donated by: Fred & Arlene Kaminski OUR LARGEST CHRISTMAS TREE is absolutely beautiful this year. With the help of Jerry Wyand who coordinated the KC Christmas Tree Sale, this 24 Fraser Fir, and the three trees in the Narthex were donated by the Knights of Columbus. Thank you Knights for helping us celebrate our parish s feast day: CHRISTMAS. Special Thanks to the Worship Ministry, the Knights of Columbus, the Seasonal Decorators, and Parishioners for their help with the Christmas Decorations.and to the Presiders, Liturgical Ministers, Musicians, Choirs, Volunteers, and you, the Faithful (Assembly) for celebrating the joy and hope of Christmas. POINSETTIAS Take a Red Poinsettia Home after any of the Masses on January 7/8 (RED Flowers Only); we will keep the White plants for Winter Ordinary Time. Plastic bags are available to help protect the flowers from the cold; they will be located next to the flowers at various places throughout the church. CHURCH DECORATING Winter Ordinary Time Decorations--The Christmas Season officially ends after Sunday, January 9 The Epiphany of the Lord. Therefore, we must say goodbye to our beautiful decorations that helped us celebrate yet another of our feast days, The Nativity of Our Lord. In addition, the Worship Ministry needs your assistance to help store these decorations and set up for a new season, Winter Ordinary Time. Join familiar and new faces on Monday, January 9 from 6:30-8:30 PM If you can t help in the evening then how about during the day? 4 Contact Wayne Efferson, Director. of Worship , x206 or natwe@nativityparish.com

5 PRETTY POINSETTIAS ARE A HEALTH CONCERN FOR MANY You have probably heard that poinsettias, the popular holiday flower, are dangerous for your pets. Did you know that they pose dangers for people with latex allergies, too? The poinsettia belongs to the same plant family as the Brazilian rubber tree from which latex is obtained. For that reason, poinsettias cause severe reactions among people who have latex allergies. This has created concerns for colleagues who have been unable to work during poinsettia season and can be an issue for patients and visitors with serious latex allergies. Some people cannot even be around these beautiful plants! Although poinsettias are a mainstay of decorations and gifts during the holiday season, for the safety of our patients, colleagues and visitors, we are being proactive and asking that no poinsettias be brought into our hospitals. This is much the same as our restrictions on latex balloons and is meant to alleviate health and safety concerns. At the same time, we want to remain in the holiday spirit and suggest beautiful options such as Amaryllis, Christmas Cactus and Cyclamen. All are beautiful plants for the holiday season and safe for our colleagues, patients and visitors who are allergic to latex. YOUR HELP IS NEDED The Worship Ministry really needs your assistance with preparing our worship space for the celebration of Mass through the ministry of Church Helper. On any given week there are at least 1500 worshippers who come through our church doors to celebrate the Eucharist (Mass). With all those worshippers comes a messy pew e.g. songbooks, pew cards not properly stored in the hymnal racks and/or bulletins and trash left in the pew after Mass. This ministry attends to these items along with cleaning the altar candles and holy water bowls at the entrances. A new schedule will be due in January and more Helpers are needed because of winter vacation and illness; we have lost four of our Church Helper ministers and we need your help. The time involved to complete these tasks average an hour once or twice a month, depending on the number of minsters in the rotation. This is a wonderful, simple and fulfilling ministry (volunteer) experience that is flexible and doesn t require much time, while giving you a sense of creating a spirit of hospitality for those who come to celebrate the Mass. You would be asked to be on a rotating schedule with other volunteers, so your frequency of service depends on how many are involved in this ministry. Won t you consider this fulfilling ministry by contacting Wayne Efferson, Director of Worship at ext. 106 or natwe@nativityparish.com A CHRISTMAS GIFT FROM THE PARISH Sunday Mass is the essence of our Christian life. In order to help us keep the Sunday in focus throughout the week, we are offering all the families of the parish CELEBRATING SUNDAY FOR CATHOLIC FAMILIES Each week, read the Gospel, discuss the reflections on the way to the Church and the way back home. It is the best and easiest way to make the Sunday Mass an integral part of your life. 5
