3 WORSHIP NEWS Contact: Wayne Efferson Worship Servant Leader, x206 or TAIZE PRAYER TAIZE prayer will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 17 at 6:30 PM (Chapel). TAIZE pronounced ~~ Teh-ZAY) is an ecumenical, peaceful way to pray, using easy to learn musical chants, silent meditation and scripture readings.a meditative, common prayer. Gathered in faith, Christians come together to sing uncomplicated repetitive short songs, like breath prayers, uncluttered by too many words, allowing the mystery of God to become tangible through the beauty of the Spirit in its simplicity. A few words sung over and over again (mantra) reinforce the meditative quality of prayer. They express a basic reality of faith that can quickly be grasped by the intellect, and will gradually penetrate the whole being. For in-depth information visit LET S MAKE OUR HOUSE INVITING On any given week there are at least 1500 worshippers who come through our church doors to celebrate the Eucharist (Mass). With all those worshippers comes a messy pews e.g. songbooks not properly stored in the hymnal racks and/or bulletins and trash left in the pew after Mass. In an effort to keep our House of God fresh and inviting for the next group of worshippers, we ask you to help keep the pews in an orderly fashion when you leave. Currently the Ushers try their best to clean up after each Mass, and the Church Helpers come once a week to clean the candle stands and holy water bowls, in addition to recycling the bulletins and attending to the pews. Let s make our house inviting by storing the pew cards inside the songbooks, with the songbooks stored horizontally with the spine facing up. This little habit done over and over each time you come to Mass will truly help make our church inviting for all who enter these doors. LITURGY - (THE WORK OF THE PEOPLE) When we come together to worship, all of us are called to full, conscious, and active participation. One way to participate is in one of our Liturgical Ministries: Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers, Lectors, Ushers, Greeters, Sacristans, Organists, Song Leader/Cantor, Carport Ministers, Video Projection Ministers and more. We need about 135 people for our three Masses. Ideally each person would do their ministry about once a month. Please give this some serious thought because we need more of you to work at the Liturgy. Call Wayne Efferson, Worship Servant Leader at x206 for more information. REPENT Repent and believe the good news! Come, follow me! Andrew, first to respond, brought along his brother Simon whom Jesus nicknamed Cephas, which means Peter, which means rock. Then came the fisher brothers, James and John. These four are the great witnesses to Jesus public work. We hear the same call: Come follow me into new life. God raises us up, too, if we follow Jesus. Time is short. The world we know is passing away. Are we ready to give witness? Text, Philip J. Sandstrom, STD 2000, OCP. All rights reserved. Illustration 1999 S. Erspamer Second Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B. All Liturgical Ministers The Winter/Spring 2018 Schedule will be available beginning January 20/21 and 27/28 via and/or parish website. All new Liturgical Ministers and those without computers should pick up their labeled copy in the Gathering Space. Also, there are extra copies available for any minister who wants a hardcopy. Grateful Hearts Therefore, we who are receiving the unshakable kingdom should have gratitude, with which we should offer worship pleasing to God in reverence and awe. (Heb 12:28)

5 LIFELONG FAITH FORMATION Learn Him - Love Him - Live Him Perfectly YOURSELF DISCOVERING GOD S DREAM FOR YOU Nativity Faith Formation is greatly pleased to give each and every adult and young adult in our faith community this wonderful, free book. It is our attempt to offer a means to nourish our spiritual journey of life-long faith enrichment. It is our hope that you will read, reflect and participate in our discussions during the weeks of Lent. This weekend the book will be available to anyone who is interested. Please, remember to pick up your copy at one of the entrances to the Church. This life-changing book addresses the opportunities and obstacles we encounter when we decide to ask life s BIG questions: Who am I? What am I here for? Full of powerful and practical lessons, Matthew Kelly shows us how to find lasting happiness in a changing world. Kelly teaches us how to find the balance between accepting ourselves and striving to become all God dreams for us to become. It s a book for all of us who long to be at peace with who we are, where we are, and what we are doing, not in some distant tomorrow, but here and now today. We are taught during our childhood years that it is our obligation to obey the rules that our parents, and other people who care about us, have set up for us. I remember a time when I was younger and I was at home playing with my brothers. We went fly fishing for awhile and then came back home. I had eaten a lot of sugar coated meal worms while out fishing, so I was pretty hyper. So I thought to myself, I think I should expel some of this energy. I think I will hop up and down on the bed. Now Mom and Dad tolerated a lot of stuff with us kids growing up, but hopping on the bed was not one of them. I was caught nearly immediately after I started, and was strongly reminded (aka scolded) that I was not obeying the rules, and that they were put into place for a reason. Yikes! Needless to say, I was in a pile of trouble! Mom increased my chores from two to five a week and Dad, well, Dad grounded me to the yard and told me to make myself useful by weeding out the gardens. That was absolutely no fun, but I did learn something. First, it s important to obey our parents. It is so important that God even gave that to us as one of his commands in the Ten Commandments. Second, even if I may not like the rules, or even agree with them, they are made keeping my best interests in mind. Therefore, it is my obligation to observe and follow the rules set out for me. Do you have rules in your life that seem unfair or difficult to understand? I know that feeling too, but I also trust the wisdom of my elders and especially of the Holy Spirit. So, I challenge you to do what I plan to do this week, and that is be more open to the rules around me, and to remember it is my obligation to follow those rules to keep myself and those around me safe. Good luck with the rule following this week. I pray that God gives both you and me the strength to do well at this. Have a hoppy week!! CST

OUR AMAZING PARISH PARISHIONERS Nativity is an Amazing Parish because of people like Jules and Marge Bader, members since As a married couple of 60 years, they are role models for all of us. As their marriage continues to remain strong, they acknowledge that faith is a very large part of who they are as a couple. Therefore, they are happy to share their faith in an array of ministries here at Nativity. Jules and Marge both minister together as ushers at Mass. Jules serves as the secretary for the Pastoral Parish Council, while Marge gladly shares her gift of baking for different bake sales throughout the year. Jules and Marge both demonstrate their strong and lasting faith through their frequent church attendance and dedicated volunteer efforts, and they do those tasks with a kind heart and a smile on their face. We are so blessed to have them here at Nativity. When you see Jules and Marge in the community or around church, please offer both of them a handshake, hugs, and/or smiles in thanks. Note: Nativity Parish will recognize at least one parishioner, each week under our Amazing Parishioners section of the bulletin, which includes uploads to our Facebook.
