3 WORSHIP NEWS Contact: Wayne Efferson, Director of Worship , x206 or CHILDREN S CHOIR--PIZZA PARTY KICK-OFF EUCHARISTIC HOLY HOUR (WITH BENEDICTION) Could you not watch one hour with me, these are Jesus words when he prayed in the garden of Gethsemane before his arrest. For us Christians, prayer is a powerful way to come to know our Lord and God. Eucharistic Adoration is one form of prayer that connects us with the Christ in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, whether exposed in a monstrance or reposed in the tabernacle. Here at Nativity, we offer Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (exposed in a monstrance) every Monday at 9:30 AM until 1:00 PM in the Chapel. In addition, every second Monday of the month, we offer a Eucharistic Holy Hour with Benediction which begins at 12:05 PM. We still need more volunteers to sing up for a time-slot on Mondays. Please sign up on the sheet located at the rear of church next to the poster (Eucharistic Adoration). REIGN OF GOD Who is the Son of Man? Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, Jeremiah or one of the prophets. Peter recognizes Jesus as the the Christ, the Son of the living God. The reign of God is a dynamic event. God exercises saving power among humanity in a new way. When God s presence and action are made visible in unconditional love and compassion for others, the reign of God is realized. Are you building up the church founded on the rock of Peter? Tami Hockers, Children s Choir Director, invites all 3 rd -6 th grade children (current and new) to check-out the Nativity Children s Choir. Join other children in the Lounge for pizza on Wednesday, September 6 from 4:00-5:00 PM; RSVP by September 5. Rehearsals are Wednesdays (4:00-5:00 PM), beginning September 13 and Masses are every 2 nd and 4 th Sunday (10:15 AM), beginning September 27. Contact Tami Hockers at tami.hockers@gmail.com ALTAR SERVER TRAINING I hope you are having a great summer. Before a new school year begins, I want to give some of our students, 4th grade & higher, and adults; an opportunity to look at the Ministry of Altar Serving. I have set the date, for: August 29 (4:30-6:00 PM). Note: This is a change from the previously mentioned date of September 5! I encourage all current Altar Servers to attend one of these sessions so that those interested students can practice with our seasoned Servers; also you can refresh your ministry skills. We will begin with a PIZZA DINNER in Bona Hall. Please RSVP by August 28 to Wayne Efferson, Worship Servant Leader at x206 or natwe@nativityparish.com. If you are interested but cannot attend this training, please contact me so that we can find a date for training. The next Liturgical Ministers Schedule runs from October-January, so in order to add you on this schedule, the training should be concluded by September 10. Text, Philip J. Sandstrom, STD 2001, OCP. BOOK of INTERCESSIONS This book is located at the rear of church for our faith community to record petitions throughout the year. As a community, we remember these prayer requests at each Sunday Mass, when we gather all prayers during the Prayer of the Faithful. Feel free to add your petitions for the Lord and His community, whatever it may be. DO YOU KNOW......of a parishioner who is currently homebound, in a nursing home or assisted living facility. If you have a relative or friend who is not able to attend Mass, please notify the Parish Office at Nativity of Our Lord Parish 3

4 NATIVITY (ADULT) CHOIR The Nativity Adult Choir is ready to start another year of leading song at the 8:30 AM Mass (2 nd and 4 th Sundays, beginning September 10). Rehearsals are Thursdays, 7:00-8:30 PM, beginning September 7. Current and new members are invited to attend. Contact Mary Kay Koehnke, Director at or mrsmkk@new.rr.com for more information. DO YOU LIKE TO WORK BEHIND THE SCENES? Then maybe this is a volunteer/ministry opportunity that will suit you. We have been using our Multi-Media Video Projection System for about a year and a half and we heard how much more the assembly is participating at Mass, both in singing and in praying. Many have said that this technology is a wonderful addition to our celebration of the Eucharist. We have been blessed with a handful of dedicated operators since we started; however, we still need more assistance. We need a minimum of 12 Video volunteers/ministers, so WON T YOU HELP? You don t have to be a techy person to operate this system. If you know your way around a computer you will be a great fit. 4 ATTENTION LITURGICAL MINISTERS! The Fall/Winter 2017 Schedule - (October 1 - January 28) is currently being created. August 15 was the due date for Scheduling Information Sheets to be turned in for anyone needing changes to the way they are scheduled. If you did not return this form please do so via , postal mail or phone call and we will try to honor your scheduling changes. Please contact Wayne Efferson, Worship Servant Leader at ext. 206 or natwe@nativityparish.com. WORSHIP MINISTRY Worship Ministry is looking to add members to its group in hopes of helping our parish prepare well for all liturgical celebrations (Mass). The LITURGY is the work of the FAITHFUL when we come to celebrate Sunday Eucharist (Mass). Our purpose, duty and responsibility is to direct in an orderly function, the spiritual and worship life at Nativity Parish. We foster spirituality of the Parish community through the encouragement and enhancement of daily prayer, devotions and other liturgical celebrations. In addition, we work closely with all Liturgical Ministries so that all who participate in the Mass by way of a ministry, e.g., Lectors, Ushers, etc. may feel comfortable in their roles. There is so much to prepare when we gather for Mass so that the gospel message is effectively conveyed through music, scripture, art, environment and prayer. We meet on the second Thursday of the month from 6:00-7:30 pm. Bring your interests and talents to help us continue to be an Amazing Parish. For more information, contact Wayne Efferson, Worship Servant Leader at x206 or natwe@nativityparish.com. Nativity of Our Lord Parish Contact Wayne Efferson, Worship Servant Leader, natwe@nativityparish.com, x206 and/or stop by the booth at the rear of church and watch what is involved. GET THE BEAT - CPR/AED Training FREE for Family & Friends Did you know that 92% of sudden cardiac arrest victims do not survive? Approximately 300,000 sudden cardiac deaths occur each year in the United States with about 3/4 of them occurring in the home. We can help change that in our Parish Community. Sign up today for one of the seven FREE Family & Friends CPR/AED trainings being offered at Nativity. All Liturgical Ministers are encouraged to attend. Tuesday, August 29 (3:00-4:30 PM or 6:30-8:00 PM) To register, call Wayne Efferson, Worship Servant Leader at x206 or natwe@nativityparish.com ARE YOU CATHOLIC? Would you like to know more about the Catholic faith? Have you not received the sacraments of Holy Eucharist and/or Confirmation? Are you or someone you know interested in converting from another Christian religion? Or maybe someone you know has never been baptized and is interested in becoming Catholic? RCIA, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults can be one way of answering these questions. Inquiry sessions will be held on Sundays, beginning September 10 following the 8:30 AM Mass (in the Lounge adjacent to Bona Hall). If you or someone you know is interested in learning what the RCIA process has to offer, contact Wayne Efferson at ( x206 or natwe@nativityparish.com).

6 Islam is the second largest religion in the world, second only to Christianity. Since 9/11 we are inclined to look at this religion with much suspicion. The purpose of this presentation is to give us a picture of the origin and nature of what this religion is all about. Who is Muhammad? What is the Qur an? Is Christianity in a collision course with Islam or Do we have some commonalities? Place: Nativity Parish Lounge (Enter Door # 7) Date: Monday, September 11, 2017 Time: Presenter: 6:00-7:30 PM Dr. Robert Berchmans, Ph D R.S.V.P: /

7 IS GOD CALLING YOU TO BE A CATECHIST? Share the faith with our children and youth Grades 1 thru 11 Parents and other generous adults serving as Catechists are the reason why our Faith Formation programs are so effective. Many of us might feel called to serve as catechists, but do not feel we have enough knowledge of the faith to teach effectively. Not true remember, God doesn t call the equipped, He equips the called. Our staff, and fellow catechists, plus God s grace, are there for you! We will provide you with a Catechist Guide and lesson plans for each session. Our staff provides personal support and individual training for those with less experience. If you prefer to teach as part of a team or if you know of someone you would like to partner with - spouse, child, parent, friend ~ we very much welcome these arrangements. As a way of saying thanks for being a catechist, we waive the fee for one child enrolled in our Faith Formation program if a parent serves as a catechist; a stipend will be received if no children are in the program. This is an enriching opportunity! Please call Dr. Bob Berchmans ( ). FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN Last fall, members of Nativity Parish, including some of our youth, helped pack over half a million meals. Our 2016 M&M tube sales and quarter collection, allowed our Parish to contribute $8, to help cover the cost of the food that was packed. The Nativity Social Concerns Ministry is excited to provide this meaningful opportunity to our parishioners again this year. This year s pack will take place October 2-5, 2017, when our faith community will unite to make a difference in the lives of hungry children across our world. Thank you for supporting this worthwhile effort. Our leadership team would welcome your help, and promises to feed your soul. Interested? Contact Deacon Mike Dabeck at natmd@nativityparish.com or The Spirituality of Aging How Faith Enhances the Blessings and Challenges of Later Life As we mature in wisdom, age and grace we encounter many changes.
