2 A Message From Fr. Jack hen I was ordained a priest, I received a plaque that W said, Priest of God, celebrate this Mass as though it was your first Mass, your last Mass, your only Mass. I ve always found that inspiring and challenging. Now, as we enter into the summer season, please remember that there is nothing more sacred than attending Mass, please appear and approach the Mass as though it could be the last time for us to gather and pray together. Make sure that clothing is modest and not objectionable in any way: strapless tops, beach wear and short shorts are just not appropriate for worship. GRACE NAMES FATHER DANE RADECKI AS PRESIDENT GREEN BAY, WI (July 16, 2012) Based on the recommendation of the Board of Trustees of the Green Bay Area Catholic Education System (GRACE), the Board of Directors announced today that Father Dane Radecki, O. Praem., will be the new president of GRACE, effective August 1, He replaces Allan Patek, who has served the GRACE system in various roles during its implementation. Father Radecki, a member of St. Norbert Abbey, has served in several positions of Catholic educational leadership for 25 years. He was the first president of Notre Dame de la Baie Academy (NDA), the first vice president of Mission & Heritage at St. Norbert College, and a planning consultant in the Office of Catholic Education for the Archdiocese of Chicago. In 2010, he became president emeritus of NDA and pastor of St. Agnes Parish, Green Bay. Father Radecki is a past member of the Bishop s Presbyteral Council and Unity Hospice s Development Council. He is currently a member of the Catholic High School Foundation. Father Radecki brings an outstanding set of skills and experience to the presidency of GRACE, Bishop David L. Ricken said. His past experience as pastor of St. Agnes gives him a unique perspective, which will help him as he assists the parishes and schools to work closely together to achieve the spiritual and educational goals of GRACE. In assuming the role of president, Father Radecki said, Our area is blessed to have the choice of Catholic schools where dedicated staff model the great importance of integrating faith in God with knowledge. Each of our Catholic schools represents a special community where individualized learning, personal attention and quality academics are evident. I hope to extend this strong tradition through advancements in technology and global education. We also need to develop the resources to enable our growing, diverse cultures to have access to our excellent Catholic schools. The transfer of leadership at GRACE has the full support of the Board of Directors, the Board of Trustees and the Norbertine community. The Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees recognize the good work that Mr. Patek accomplished during his tenure and are grateful for Mr. Patek s assistance in the transition. The Green Bay West Side Parishes are presenting their annual day-long summer retreat, Tuesday, July 31 at St. Norbert Abbey, 9 AM through 3 PM. The cost is $30/ person, including lunch at the Abbey. Registration deadline is July 25 (registration brochures are at all church entrances). Please contact Sr. Pat Clement, Green Bay Quad-Parishes, at ext. 125 with questions. SEEKING CATECHISTS FOR OUR CHILDREN AND YOUTH Parents and other generous adults serving as catechists are the reason why our Religion Education programs are so effective. Many of us might feel called to serve as catechists, but do not feel we have enough knowledge of the faith to teach effectively. Not true remember, God doesn t call the equipped, He equips the called. Our staff, and your fellow catechists, plus God s grace, are there for you! Catechists need training to be effective in the classroom, just like each of us do in our workplace. We offer training sessions throughout the year to help catechists know their material and connect with other teachers. Our staff provides personal support and individual training for those with less experience. There is also a special West Side Green Bay workshop on October 24, Beginning With Open Hearts, very useful for beginning catechists. Many catechists prefer to teach as part of a team. Do you know of someone you d like to partner with spouse, child, parent, friend? We very much welcome these arrangements! Once again this year, as a way of saying thanks to our catechists, we are waiving the fee for one child enrolled in a Faith Formation program if a parent serves as a catechist for Religion Education Classes or Confirmation (or a stipend if one has no children in the program.) If you are not currently serving as a catechist, but would like to find out more, please contact Jamie Whalen (natjw@nativityparish.com; ) this summer. That way, we can find out if it is the right fit for you. We need more great catechists... is the Holy Spirit calling you? JOIN THE FAITH FORMATION COMMISSION Are you interested in helping provide quality Faith Formation for children, youth, and adults? We invite you to become a member of the Commission for We seek adult parish members from a variety of demographics: for example, parents of preschoolers, those with grown children, single adults, or parents of middle or high schoolers. In short, we welcome anyone who would like to provide input and feedback on programs, help plan new offerings, and be a sounding board for the Faith Formation Staff. One and one-half hour meetings take place on the second Thursday of each month; one, two, and three-year terms are available. Contact Jamie Whalen, Director of Faith Formation, for more information. CONFIRMATION PARENT/CANDIDATE ORIENTATION MEETING Choose One: Tuesday, August 7th, 6:30-7:30 PM, or Wednesday, August 8th, 6:30-7:30 PM Bona Hall With joy in the Holy Spirit, we invite incoming high school juniors to prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation! We are grateful for, and depend upon, parent support during the process. At this meeting, you will be able to: register for Nativity Faith Formation (and for the Confirmation Program); receive information about the program and about choosing a sponsor; and take care of the Sacrament Fee ($10). Please contact Christine Wolf ( ; natcw@nativityparish) if you cannot attend. NATIVITY PARISH FAITH FORMATION PROGRAMS Have You Registered Yet? 6 J ULY 22, 2012 PAGE 6 PRESENTING THE GIFTS OF BREAD AND WINE Presenting the gifts at Mass is a special way to participate as we celebrate the Eucharist. Often the family who has requested the Mass Intention will bring up the gifts to the altar, but this is not always the case. Our Ushers are instructed to choose two people to do this act if no one informs them; they usually wait five minutes before the Mass begins. Since we have begun to accept up to five Mass Intentions for each Mass, the family who has requested the first Mass Intention will be given the opportunity to process to the altar with the Bread and Wine. If the first family does not wish to do this then the next family would be offered to do it; and so on. Simply notify an Usher 15 minutes before Mass begins that your family would like to present the gifts at Mass, or call Wayne Efferson ( , ext. 206) at the Parish Office during the week. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Mondays-9:30 AM 3:00 PM We are in need of more volunteers to sign up for a time-slot on Mondays when we make available The Blessed Sacrament. The sign up sheet is located at the rear of church next to the poster (Eucharistic Adoration). Also, as a reminder, whenever a national holiday is celebrated on a Monday i.e. Memorial Day and Labor Day, adoration will be suspended. MARK YOUR CALENDAR! We are very pleased to announce that The African Children s Choir will be hosted by our parish for the fourth time. This is a concert that you don t want to miss! VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO ASSIST AT THE CONCERT! (see below) Sunday, September 16, :00 PM Nativity of Our Lord Church WANT TO BE A VOLUNTEER AT THE CONCERT? Now that we have all of our Host Families we can work on getting our volunteers to assist at the concert on Sunday, September 16 th There is a need for a variety of duties so if you can assist in any way please contact Wayne Efferson, Director of Worship at natwe@nativityparish.com or ext Our brothers and sisters at Woodside Lutheran and San Luis Manor Nursing Homes long to receive our Lord in the sacrament of Holy Communion. Bringing our Lord in the sacrament of Holy Communion to our brothers and sisters who are confined is a ministry that we need to strengthen and continue at Nativity Parish, especially Woodside Lutheran and San Luis Manor Nursing Homes. We are in desperate need of people to be trained for this is ministry for these Nursing Homes because our current ministers are ill or have been serving week after week for many years. Won t you consider looking into how you might serve our brothers and sisters who reside at one of these nursing homes? Please contact Wayne Efferson, Director of Worship, , natwe@nativityparish.com for more information. SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING OF THE SICK will take place on Sunday, July 29th following the 8:30 AM Mass (9:30 10:00 AM). This sacrament will be offered every fifth Sunday of the Month, following the 8:30 AM Mass (9:30 10:00 AM) unless otherwise indicated. The following are the future fifth Sundays in 2012: July 29th, September 30th, and December 30th. The Anointing of the Sick is a sacrament that is offered to anyone in need of Christ s healing touch such as those who are in need of physical, emotional, or spiritual healing. Think of friends and loved ones who may want to receive this sacrament and invite them to this Mass. HELP SUPPORT OUR SEMINARIANS Collection scheduled for August 11th/ 12th Vocation Director, Fr. Dan Schuster, and Bishop David Ricken invite the people of our diocese to participate in the education and formation of our seminarians. Fr. Schuster will preside at the 5:00 PM and 8:30 AM Masses and share more information about this important appeal. This fall we will have a total of 27 seminarians discerning priesthood. We can help these men by supporting their calling through prayer and financial support. Providing tuition, room and board, insurance, and a small stipend for our seminarians is expensive--almost $700,000 this year. There are additional costs for promotion of vocations. Our parish will take a collection for the training of these men to be the future priests in the Diocese of Green Bay. If you would like to use a Seminarian Collection envelope take one from one of the church entrances. THE MISSIONARY COOPERATIVE PLAN COLLECTION August 25th/ 26th is an annual diocesan collection which supports those participating missionary communities like that of the Fr. Celestine Byekwaso, a Ugandan priest who currently serves at Ss. Francis & Wenceslaus parish in Coleman/Lena, WI. He will be celebrating at all of the Masses August 25/26 and sharing his diocese s mission in Uganda. A collection for the Missionary Cooperative Plan will follow Communion. All funds received at Nativity Parish and all diocesan churches will be distributed equally to this year s participating plan communities. Please be generous as you are able.
