2 O CTOBER 28, 2012 PAGE 2 y Nativity Brothers and Sisters, M As I observed the operation of our great fundraiser The Calendar Raffle, I deeply appreciate the efforts of so many to make it such a success. I want to build on that success. I asked Vicki, our accountant, how much it costs to cut a check; she responded approximately $2.00. A check a day figures to $ a year! Then if you add that cost to the time it takes her to enter and process the checks and the trustee and me to sign them, it is a costly endeavor. That is where I came up with the suggestion that we pay the winners in Scrip. The entire process can then be handled by volunteers and will cost the parish nothing and we will make additional funds on the Scrip commission. I understand that this represents a change and change is always challenging. I can think of a situation where this just wouldn t work, a soldier serving outside our country. In such a case, mark the calendar entry with my name and I will send a personal check to the winner. I believe with a little creative thinking most other situations can be adapted to a Scrip card that will be appreciated. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact me. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. John H. Harper, Pastor $CRIP Do you buy groceries, gas or go to restaurants? If so, we have SCRIP for you! Please stop by the Narthex after mass to see the large selection we have available to take right home with you. This is a very easy and no-cost way to support Nativity. Dedicated $CRIP volunteers are in the narthex after all Masses to provide just what you need. $CRIP can also be purchased at the Parish Office during the week from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Call the Parish Office if you have any questions at and to check availability. WE RE LOOKING FOR $CRIP VOLUNTEERS! Would you like to sell $CRIP before and after the weekend Masses? Perhaps you had a change in your life & would like to help the Parish (new to the area, new to the parish, retired from work, looking for something more to do to help the Parish). You can sell $CRIP at the Mass you attend. It is very easy and what a wonderful way to help Nativity Parish. Call Luanne at for details. Please consider! ONLINE GIVING If you pay your contributions by automatic transfer, please check your bank or charge card statements. We have had parishioners call the office saying their deductions are not being taken out. GRACE refers to the Green Bay Area Catholic Education system and comprises over 2300 students in 10 GRACE schools. Choosing a Catholic education in the Green Bay area means never having to choose between a child s moral and spiritual development and their academic achievement. In our Catholic schools, students receive a superior academic foundation in safe surroundings where qualified and dedicated teachers also instill values like compassion, respect for others, honesty and a close relationship with Jesus Christ. This year three areas have been identified for financial support: (1) The Financial Assistance Fund ; (2) School Technology; and (3) Professional Development of Teachers and Staff. Please consider making a gift in support of the students in our GRACE Catholic Schools. 4 N ATIVITY OF OUR LORD PARISH GREEN BAY PAGE 4 ALL SAINTS DAY This Holy Day of Obligation will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 31st at 6:30 PM and Thursday, November 1st at 9:00 AM. All Liturgical Ministers are invited to assist with one of these Masses; please sign up in the sacristy and Ushers Rooms. THE COMMEMORATION OF ALL THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED (ALL SOULS), is celebrated annually on November 2nd (Friday). It is a day that we honor all who have fallen asleep in Christ marked with the sign of faith, especially those whose funerals were at Nativity Parish this past year. Again, we will remember/highlight those whose funerals were at Nativity Parish this past year at our 10:15 AM Mass on November 4th. Around the Font will be a lit candle for each of the deceased and these will be read aloud after the homily. Each family will be invited to take their loved one s candle home and light it during the month of November. If you cannot attend this Mass, the candle of your loved one will remain lit at the Baptismal Font, until you pick it up at a later date. In addition to the candles around the Baptismal Font, the Paschal Candle and The Book of the Dead will be present throughout the month of November as the church remembers her deceased. Everyone is welcome to inscribe the name(s) of their beloved dead so that our community can prayerfully remember them. THE BOOK OF THE DEAD In Memory Of Your Loved One This book will be on a stand next to the Baptismal Font during the month of November to honor our deceased. The book is placed on the Funeral Pall and is illuminated by the Paschal (Easter) Candle. The Font is a place of life and death, for it is where we are baptized into Christ Jesus; where we die, are buried, and are raised to new life in Christ Jesus. During November, record the names of family and friends who have died. LECTORS did you receive a copy of the 2013 Lector Workbook. If not, please contact Wayne Efferson, Director of Worship. The Church will be using Cycle C readings (The Year of Luke s Gospel) for the entire year, beginning the First Sunday of Advent (December 2nd ). THE WORSHIP COMMISSION (WC) is looking for new members who are open to share their gifts in a variety of ways. Mindful that the Mass is the source and summit of our Christian life, the WC s priority is to prepare well the Sunday Eucharist in order to lead the Assembly to full, conscious, and active participation both in the celebration of Eucharist and in bringing Christ into the world. This is achieved by establishing yearly goals and following them. Much of its work centers on preparing the seasons of the liturgical year which includes art and environment, music, liturgical ministries and prayer. The WC meets once a month, usually the second Thursday of the month, from 6:00 7:30 PM. Contact Wayne Efferson, Director of Worship at natwe@nativityparish.com or ext. 206 for more information. 4 EUCHARISTIC ADORATION A CHANGE IN TIME Based on current attendance, we find the need to adjust the time that we offer the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Mondays. Starting Monday, November 5th we will end adoration at 1:00 PM. We still need more volunteers to sign up for a time-slot on Mondays. Please sign up on the sheet located at the rear of church next to the poster (Eucharistic Adoration). ATTENTION LITURGICAL MINISTERS! The Fall/Winter 2012 Schedule (October 7th -January 27th) is currently active so if you did not get a copy off the parish website or a hardcopy in the narthex please contact Wayne Efferson, Director of Worship at , ext. 206 or natwe@nativityparish.com.
