2 P 2 S, S 9, 2018 Dear Friends in Christ, Time and Talent Weekend This weekend we are having our annual time and talent sign-up. I would like to thank all of you who are serving in parish ministries. We have a great spirit of volunteerism here, and I am grateful for your service. I know that many of you share your God given talents and gifts out in the community. That is also being a good steward of God s gifts. The Lord blesses us in many ways and I think he desires for us to have an impact in this world. We generously share the blessings of the Lord for his glory and the good of others. God cannot be outdone when it comes to generosity, so we can know that he always brings blessings and graces into our lives when we share. Some of the offerings on the time and talent form are spiritual enrichment gatherings. They are there to help us grow in our relationship with God. We have retreats, gatherings for men and women, marriage events, and many youth ministry offerings. Our souls need to be nourished so that we can be strengthened as the Lord s disciples in the world. Many other items on the form are there so that parishioners can share their time and talents to serve others. I have always said that a healthy parish is an active one, and I appreciate the involvement of all who share their time and talent to serve the Lord through our parish. We will be processing the forms as quickly as we can through the parish office. We will then pass along the sign-ups to the heads of various ministries who will be in touch with you. Some ministries, like liturgical ministries, involve some training. Those will be set up this fall. In the event you signed up for something and are not contacted in a timely manner, please let the office know and we will make sure the appropriate connection takes place. We want to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to serve in those ministry areas that they marked. Parishioner Dave Stowell to be Ordained a Permanent Deacon We are happy to announce that Dave Stowell will be ordained a permanent deacon by Bishop David Malloy on Saturday, September 29 in Rockford. Dave and his wife Thea have been active parishioners at St. Pat s for many years. We are blessed that Dave will be sharing his diaconal ministry here at the parish. Please keep him in your prayers as he begins his final preparations for ordination. In Christ, Msgr. Steve Mass of Healing and Reparation Friday, September 14 at 7:00 p.m. In the Crane Road Church Bishop Malloy has asked all the parishes of our diocese to offer a Mass for Healing at 7:00 p.m. around the diocese. Bishop stated that in this way, we can dedicate our entire diocese to prayer for those victimized by ministers of the Church and also pray for an increase in holiness in the Body of Christ. As members of the Body of Christ, St. Paul said that if one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it (1 Corinthians 12:26). Let us join together to pray for those who carry wounds, for their families, and for the renewal of the whole Church. Let s come together as a people of faith to pray at this special Mass of healing and reparation. Are You Interested in Becoming Catholic? Let our Team help you discern whether God is calling you into full communion with the Church. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adult (RCIA) is a journey one of faith. If you, or someone you know, has felt a nudge to embark on this spiritual journey towards Catholicism, then RCIA may be right for you. 8 P 8 S, S 9, 2018 ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC SCHOOL Principally Speaking St. Charles, IL Est Where Faith and the Future Meet Dear St. Patrick Parish Families, Summer is over, and our school year is underway! This year, we are moving forward with several initiatives related to best instructional practices; professional learning communities, guided reading, project-based learning and assessment, and STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art, and Math) just to name a few. And while our staff is engaged in professional learning regarding all these topics, we are also participating in monthly ongoing staff catechesis. Last week, we had our irst catechetical session. Each session focuses on a spiritual and an instructional component. In this irst session, we explored the story of God in our lives and how to create a welcoming environment for faith formation in our classrooms. Our staff lessons go hand in hand with our faith formation initiatives this year, particularly Faith Families and Family Prayer Bags. In Faith Families, our teachers work with small groups of students, helping them grow in their understanding of our faith and their call to discipleship. Our Family Prayer Bags go home with every student for one week. Contained in the bag are resources to help our families grow their current prayer practices and a journal for them to re lect on their experiences and share them with other families in our school. There are so many opportunities for all of us to be a part of the story of God in the lives of our children. It is important for us to share our faith journey with our children as many of our fondest memories relate to faith moments in our lives. I hope that all of you with children in your lives, whether grandchildren, children, nieces, nephews, or friends, rejoice in the presence of God in the story of your lives. We thank you for all that you do to support our school and our mission to foster faith, academic excellence, and discipleship. Vocation Corner n our irst reading from the Prophet I Isaiah this weekend, God has a message for those who are fearful. Be strong, fear not! he says. God our Father always encourages us to trust in Him and to not let fear get in the way of our mission. At it s core, fear is a sense of isolation. When we are afraid, ultimately we are feeling alone and helpless. It is through that fear that we lose our hope, and when our hope is gone we lose our peace as well. Without that interior peace, it is tough to the disciples that Jesus calls us to be. Therefore, we need to do our best to always be strong and fear not! God does not call us to be timid in our vocations, but rather to be courageous. Be bold in the way that you surrender your life to Jesus Christ. Hold nothing back! With your fearless heart, Jesus will be able to mold you into a true disciple and do great things in your life. Place all of your hope and trust in God, and see what incredible deeds He wants to work through you.
