2 P 2 S, S 2, 2018 Dear Friends in Christ, Be doers of the word and not hearers only James 1:21 The Book of James has a special emphasis on putting our faith into practice. The authenticity of our faith will be re lected in how we live our lives. Practice what you preach is a saying that all of us have heard many times. It is always a challenge no matter how old we are. Discipleship is an important part of our parish mission statement. One of the pillars that is connected with discipleship is Christian service. A church that doesn t have a strong spirit of service is lacking in a Christian essential. For the individual Christian, one of the signs of a healthy discipleship is a growing desire to use one s time, talents, or treasure to have an impact for good in the world. As we come to realize more and more how God has blessed us, we seeks ways to give back. We are blessed to have many service ministries in our parish that help many people. Next weekend there will be an opportunity to volunteer in many areas of our parish life. In this column I would like to lift up a few service ministries that could use more involvement. Our Ministry of Care reaches out to parishioners who are homebound or are in Delnor Hospital. If you were ever in a vulnerable place in your life and someone reached out to you with Communion, you know the value of the ministry of care. We always provide training for those who become part of this ministry. We also try to structure it so no one becomes overwhelmed by the time commitment. If you would like to become a minister of care and occasionally bring Communion to the homebound or to Catholics at Delnor, please connect with Betty Ross at booper926@aol.com. Our St. Vincent de Paul Society does awesome work in the community through food and clothing drives and visits to those who are in need. We have a good core group, but we could use more volunteers who are involved in SVDP s ministries. Our senior citizens are very involved in this ministry, so I would like to encourage younger volunteers to consider sharing your time and talent in this ministry. There are various levels of service and many opportunities to become involved in ways that work with your schedule and other commitments. There is important ministry that takes place through SVDP that truly impacts the lives of those in need. If you want to learn more about St. Vincent de Paul Society in our parish, connect with Bob at bob.forster@comcast.net. Lastly, our parish has a long standing service relationship with Lazarus House in downtown St. Charles. Lazarus House helps people in need ind the shelter, food, and other support services they need to get back on their feet. Our parish joins with many other churches in providing periodic meals to the residents. Parishioners sign up to prepare a meal and then bring it over to Lazarus House. We are in need of a volunteer who would be willing to coordinate the meals that come from St. Patrick s. If you have an interest or would like more information, please contact Becky at becky@lenardcpa.com. It is a rewarding ministry that has positively impacts those mired in poverty. I wish I could highlight all of our service ministries in the parish but that would take up a lot of bulletin space! Thank you for all the ways you share your time, talent and treasure to serve those in need in our parish and in our area. God bless you always. In Christ, Msgr. Steve Knox Are You Interested in Becoming Catholic? Let our Team help you discern whether God is calling you into full communion with the Church. While from behind, a voice shall sound in your ears: This is the way; walk in it. ~ Isaiah 30:21 Have you ever thought about joining the Catholic Church? Were you raised in a Protestant tradition but now feel drawn toward Catholicism? Is your spouse or iancé Catholic and perhaps you would like to share in his or her faith? Are you a baptized Catholic who has never celebrated First Communion or Con irmation? Are you unbaptized but feel a call from God to draw closer to him and the Church? If your answer is Yes to any question, we invite you to consider entering into the RCIA process. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a journey one of faith. If you, or someone you know, has felt a nudge to embark on this spiritual journey towards Catholicism, then RCIA may be right for you. Classes for Candidates and Sponsors begin on Wednesday, September 26th at 7:00 p.m. in the Downtown Church, Fr. Carse Center (lower level). The irst night is inquiry and introduction of the journey of becoming Catholic. Through weekly meetings you ll learn about the Catholic faith with others who will be on a similar journey. This process helps participants enter into full communion with the Church at Easter in Spring For more information, please contact Pam at or ppurcell2010@comcast.net.

8 P 8 S, S 2, 2018 ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC SCHOOL FAITH FAMILIES St. Charles, IL Est Where Faith and the Future Meet This year we are rolling out Faith Families at our school. Faith Families are present in many of our Catholic schools and serve as another way of supporting our students' faith formation and growing small faith communities within our school. Faith Families consist of a leader (teacher) and students from every grade level. We call them a family, because the group of students remain in their Faith Family throughout their years here at our school. At the end of every school year, we will celebrate our 8th grade Faith Family members as they graduate and welcome Kindergarten students the next year to the Faith Family. Mission Statement The Faith Families of St. Patrick School put faith first, working together to blend the Gospel message with service to others while creating supportive communities for our students and staff in school. Vision Statement Members of St. Patrick School Faith Families will spread the Gospel message through their thoughts, words, and deeds. Their acts will inspire others they meet in school communities and elsewhere to answer Jesus call to a full relationship with him. Goals Work collaboratively across grade levels to respond to the Gospel message Pray together Be of service to others Communicate the Faith Family message of the month to our families at home Live the Faith Family message Build relationships within our Faith Family Cultivate spiritual leaders within our Faith Families Celebrate our Faith Families members sacraments throughout the year Develop a deeper understanding of the relationship between the Gospel message and our daily lives For All St. Patrick School Inquiries, Please Call: Phone: Main Campus (K-8): 787 Crane Road, St. Charles, Like us on Preschool Downtown Campus (PreK 2 PreK 4) 118 N. 5th Street, St. Charles, Phone: preschool@stpatrickparish.org. If you have questions, call Kathy at When life squeezes you... am sure that if you squeeze a lime you I will get lime juice, but if you squeeze an orange you will get orange juice, or if you squeeze a lemon you will get lemon juice. We cannot get orange juice from a lime or a lemon; neither can we get lemon juice from a lime or an orange. Vocation Corner Fr. Manuel Gomez Assist. Vocation Dir. When you have a problem with your family or friends, when you got into a difficult situa on or even in a traffic incident, how do you react? In other words how do you react when the circumstances of your life squeezes you? Do you react with anger, wrath, or violence? Or do you react calmly, composed, and intelligently? Whatever comes out of us when life squeezes us... that is what is inside of us. If what comes out of us is not good, we can change it. We are not condemned like a fruit that cannot change its juices. Our call is to fill our lives with the things of God, so that when life squeezes us, our ac ons and reac ons may be fruits from God.
