2 PAGE 2 SUNDAY, MARCH 5, 2017 Dear Friends in Christ, Preparing for the Easter Sacraments Lent is a special time of preparation for the graces lowing from the resurrection of Jesus at Easter. We have 18 individuals who are part of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) who will be received into the life of the Church at the Easter Vigil. They have been preparing for a number of months and now are into the Lenten phase of their preparation. We ll be putting their pictures in the bulletin along with a paragraph in which they share some of their spiritual journey. Please keep them in your prayers as they take this important step in their lives. I d like to thank Pam Purcell and her team for guiding this year s group in a very life giving way. Deacon Mike Smith and Mike Alber, a deacon in training, are currently preparing 10 adults to receive the Sacrament of Con irmation at the Easter Vigil. Bishop Malloy will be here on Sunday, April 2 to celebrate the Sacrament of Con irmation for 440 of our students. We have two liturgies this year, one for 8 th grade students and the other for high school students. After this year the normative grade for Con irmation will be 8 th grade. Con irmation director Alyce Poziombka, Fr. Jorge Loaiza and Sr. Esperanza in Hispanic ministry, and Celeste Phelan at the school, and all of our catechists have done a great job in preparing our youth for the sacrament. We pray that the hearts of our young people will be open to the power of the Holy Spirit when they are con irmed by Bishop Malloy. Bishop will be back on Monday, May 8 for the 6:00 p.m. dedication Mass at the downtown church. After Easter we will have 200 children receiving their irst Holy Communion. They recently received their First Reconciliation so now they are ready for the next step on their spiritual journey. We are looking forward to them receiving the Lord in the Eucharist for the irst time. The children are prepared to receive the Eucharist by Deacon Jerry Ryndak and our catechists in the religious education program, and by Cheryl Duhig and Nancy Kuzniar at the school. May our Eucharistic Lord nourish their souls through Holy Communion. The Easter sacraments are not graduation experiences that mark an endpoint. Rather, they provide the grace to launch the recipients into the next stage of their discipleship. We can never stop growing in our relationship with God and what he calls us to be about. The sacraments are a prime way that spiritual growth happens in our lives. May God s blessings be upon all who will be receiving these sacraments. Let s keep them in our prayers! In Christ, Msgr. Steve SCHEDULE FOR THE STATIONS OF THE CROSS AT CRANE ROAD The Stations of the Cross are a traditional Lenten prayer form that helps us to walk with Christ and grow in our union with him. Plan on about a 45 minute prayer service in the church. Families and children are encouraged to participate. Starting at 7:00 p.m. every Friday: March 10 March 17 March 24 March 31 April 7
