1 Fall 2018 Parish Newsletter Saint Margaret Parish In this issue Letter from the Pastor A Look Ahead Series on the Eucharist 40 Hours Devotion St. Margaret School PREP From the Pastor Summer is behind us now, and we thank God for the ways we were able to spend some time on vacation to rest, retreat, and renew our appreciation for God s everyday gifts of life, family, friendship, and nature. As we head into the Fall, we are looking forward to a fruitful year of growth in the knowledge and practice of our faith here at St. Margaret Parish. Our simple goal is for all of us to grow in holiness, to draw closer in love to God and one another. Baptisms & Deaths Stay in Touch 208 N. Narberth Avenue Narberth, PA We are hoping throughout this year to continue and build upon some practices initiated last year after we developed our three-year pastoral plan. (continued on page 2)
2 From the Pastor Some of those practices were inviting a PREP or Saint Margaret School class to attend a particular Mass on occasion and participate in some ministerial role and having some socials in the homes of parishioners so that we could meet and come to know one another better. An Adult Faith Formation team was formed and met regularly to develop a series of session on the Eucharist for the Fall as we approach another Church Year beginning with Advent on December 2. Our parish theme for the new Church year will be The Eucharist: Our Strength and Our Joy. These Fall sessions will help us to enter into the new Church year with a deeper understanding of and love for the Mass. Joining together to praise God and receive His saving graces at Sunday mass is the most important part of our Parish. I urge everyone to be faithful to this observance as the best meansto grow together in holiness and fullness of life. Our school and our PREP program are ready for the new year. The education of our youth in the faith is an important aspect of our Parish life and both our School and PREP program continually strive to fulfill their mission well. In addition to these ways of serving our youth, we are planning to begin a High School Youth Group. Our Coordinator of Parish Services, Robert Cermignano, and a few volunteers will be slowly unfolding the plan throughout the year. Thank you for being a part of our Parish. We now have almost 1050 families registered. I and all of the staff are looking forward to serving you. I invite you to consider how you can enter more deeply into our Parish life so that our gifts can be used in service to God and one another. May God bless all of you. Monsignor Paul Dougherty

4 St. Margaret Parish offers numerous opportunities to provide parishioners the tools to foster excitement for, knowledge of, and a deeper and more personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The St. Margaret Parish Adult Faith Formation Team established and is implementing a nine-week series on the Eucharist to guide our parish to practice a deeper love for the Eucharist. The weeks will be broken down into individual, drop-in sessions, utilizing the following: Bishop Robert Barron's Series "The Mass" Walk through the Liturgy with Bishop Barron and be transformed through insights on this most privileged and intimate encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ. See how the Mass brings us out of the fallen world and into the heavenly realm and how it resonates with a call from God and a response from his people, the Church, and, most importantly, how we are intimately joined with the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus through the Holy Eucharist. 6 Wednesdays 7:00-8:15 PM Annex September 19 & 26, October 3, 10, 17, 24 You Shall Believe An opportunity to walk through two Eucharistic miracles in order to discover the true and undeniable presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. 7:00-8:00 PM Annex Tuesday, October 30 & Wednesday, November 7 Eucharistic Adoration This final session teaches adults how to spend a holy hour with the new found knowledge of and passion for the Eucharist in Adoration for our Lord Jesus Christ. All participants will be offered guidelines and practices to prepare for our 40 Hours Devotion beginning Sunday, November 18. 7:00-8:00 PM Church Wednesday, November 14 Each session is available for dropins. Registration not required. Light refreshments provided. Contact faith@saintmarg.org with any questions
5 A Forty Hours Devotion is a special period of continuous prayer during which the Eucharist is exposed in a monstrance for adoration. Our devotion commences following our 11:30 AM Mass on Sunday, November 18 and offers daily adoration over a 40-hour period, ending with Benediction on Tuesday, November 20. The Significance of 40 The number 40 is associated with a sacred period of time: the rain at the time of the flood of Noah lasted 40 days and nights, the Hebrews wandered in the desert for 40 years on the way to the Promised Land, and Jesus fasted for 40 days before beginning his public ministry. Schedule The devotion begins on Sunday, November 18 following the 11:30 AM Mass and concludes on Tuesday, November 20 at 8:00 PM. Eucharistic Exposition will be available at the following hours. Sunday, November 18: 1:00-8:00 PM Monday, November 19: 7:30 AM 8:00 PM Tuesday, November 20: 7:30 AM 8:00 PM Presentations Daniel Joyce, SJ, will present each evening at 7:00 PM on the theme of the Eucharist. Daniel Joyce is the Executive Director of Mission Programs for Saint Joseph's University. His commitment to the Eucharist make him an incredible resource for our parish family to embrace the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Presentations begin at 7 PM Reception A reception of light refreshments and desserts will conclude the 40 Hours Devotion on Tuesday, November 20 at 8:00 PM in the Parish Annex underneath the church. Please join us for this occasion! Dan Joyce, SJ, will present on the Eucharist during each evening of the 40 Hours Devotion.
