2 Page 2 Sunday, March April 19, 20, Dear Friends in Christ, Holy Week 2016 Page 3 As we celebrate Palm Sunday liturgies, we enter into Holy Week, the most sacred time of the year for Christians. The reading of the Passion Gospel is a sobering reminder of the consequences of sin, but also the redeeming love of God. As we journey through Holy Week, may we be strengthened to walk with Jesus to the Cross, so that we can also rise with him as we celebrate Easter. The Liturgies of Holy Week bring us to the center of our Catholic faith. I encourage you to participate in these liturgies so that your faith can be deepened. We have a number of opportunities to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We will have confessions at on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At the church we will have the sacrament available on Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. The Mass of the Lord s Supper will take place on Holy Thursday at 7:00pm. At this liturgy we commemorate the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the call of humble service through the ritual of the priest washing the feet of a number of parishioners. At the end of the liturgy, we process with the Blessed Sacrament to the Altar of Repose. Eucharistic adoration will take place until midnight. On Good Friday, we walk with Jesus as he goes to the Cross. We have Services at 1:00 p.m. at the Church and 7:00 p.m. at. At this liturgy, we have the reading of the Passion according to the Gospel of John, the veneration of the Cross, and the reception of Holy Communion. On Holy Saturday, we have the blessing of Easter food baskets at 10:00 a.m. at the church. The Easter Vigil Mass will take place on Holy Saturday at 7:30 p.m. This is the central liturgy of the whole liturgical year as we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus and celebrate the sacraments of initiation of those in the RCIA process and the Adult Con irmation program. We also have a Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Vigil liturgy in Spanish at the church. On Easter Sunday, we have added a Mass at, so please note the adjusted Mass schedule. The church has it s regular schedule on Easter Sunday. May the Lord bless you during this Holy Week! In Christ, Msgr. 4 Page 4 Sunday, March 20, 2016 Re lections from Fr. Browning Divine Mercy Sunday is April 3, 2016 As you know, I am a huge proponent of God s Mercy having experienced so much of it in my own life. I want all of us to be prepared for this great feast of mercy. If you have not been practicing your faith, but are with us this Palm Sunday, I invite you to take advantage of the confessions times during Holy Week. See this as an opportunity to reconnect with God and His Church and to prepare your heart for an experience of God s merciful love. Jesus is the answer to the longings and restlessness of our hearts. Jesus tells St. Faustina, as recorded in her diary (#699): I desire that the Feast of Mercy [Sunday after Easter] be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine loodgates through which grace low are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. The promise made by Jesus is an astounding one. The Church also grants a plenary indulgence, but what Jesus promises is beyond that. It can only be gained for ourselves, but it is essentially like a second baptism. We receive complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. We literally get a brand new start - no baggage remains (no temporal punishment due to sin, remains). Here is how to prepare for this amazing gift: 1. Go to confession up to 20 days before Divine Mercy Sunday - remain in the state of grace (that means: no mortal sins). 2. Receive Holy Communion. 3. Trust in God s merciful love. The Church also offers a plenary indulgence to the faithful that day (we can obtain it for ourselves or a deceased person). To obtain this indulgence we have to do the following: 1. Sacramental confession (20 days before or after) 2. Receive Holy Communion in the state of grace 3. Pray for the intentions of the Holy Father Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be 4. Be detached from the affection for sin, even venial sin 5. Take part in the prayers and devotions held in honor of Divine Mercy or in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament (exposed or reserved in the tabernacle) pray an Our Father, the Creed, and Merciful Jesus, I trust in You! Extra Confession Times During Holy Week There will be an opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation Monday, March 21 and Tuesday, March 22 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Church. We ll also have confessions at the Church on Tuesday, March 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

It has been going on for many years but the exact number is unknown. Mrs. Rothengass is currently the moderator and she has been teaching rosary making to the 5th graders for 11 years. She has done a total of 25 classes in which the first year she taught 4 classes to include a year they had no one to carry on the tradi on. She holds training classes for the parents who will be helping in the 5th grade classroom. The students make two rosaries, one remains with them and one is donated to a mission. Mrs. Rothengass has sent the rosaries to missions in Peru, Mexico and many in the States. This year she selected Fr. Will Roger Malave from Torrington, CT who will be taking them to missions in Puerto Rico. She feels honored to share the Art of Rosary Making. The students learn pa ence while they focus on how many Hail Mary and Our Father beads are in the Rosary. Many students do not pray the rosary and this provides them the opportunity to learn more and pray. Learning is Always Fun at Preschool! Our PK2 children invited a few friends in to help with our Get Messy With Me Program! Find out why we were voted one of the Best of the Fox preschools by St. Charles parents. We are currently accepting registration for PK4 and have opened a new PK3 T/TH and PK2 Friday only class. Classes are filling up fast for the school year.
