2 P 2 S, D 31, 2017 Dear Friends in Christ, Holy Family Sunday I hope everyone had a good Christmas! The celebration of Christmas helps us get more in touch with the love of God. Jesus being born into our world demonstrates that God is Emmanuel, God who is with us. As we allow the Lord deeper into our lives, we come to experience that divine love in a very profound way. God takes us where we are at, and loves us into growth. Our part is to give our yes, and God will do great things in our lives. With God alive in our hearts, we are never alone. This Sunday, during the Christmas season, we are connected to the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph in a special way. For Joseph and Mary, they were so blessed to have Jesus at the center of their family. That is the key for true happiness in any family. When we keep Jesus at the center, our families will be strengthened to live the faith and to know the grace of God in a very powerful way. None of our families are perfect, but the Lord will help us to grow if we allow him to be the Lord of our family life. Many families do experience brokenness, so we need God s grace more than ever. It s important to pray for our family every day. If we do that faithfully, God will not disappoint. A new year is also upon us. In a few days we will enter into Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, asks us to pray for peace in our world and for an end to terrorism, violence and war. There is a great deal of brokenness and hatred in the world. Let us resolve to allow the peace of Christ to grow in our hearts and in our families so that we can radiate the peace of the Lord in our daily lives. January 1st is also the solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. This year the solemnity will not be a holy day of obligation because it falls on a Monday. However, we will have our regular weekday morning Masses on Monday as we honor the Blessed Virgin Mary and pray for God s blessings at the beginning of a new year. Thank You! I d like to thank all of our music and liturgical ministers for their faith- illed service this Christmas. Cyndee Zbylut and her music ministers provided uplifting sacred music for our many Advent and Christmas Masses. Our art and environment teams provided beautiful decorations for Christmas at both churches. I d also like to thank our deacons, sacristans, ushers, Eucharistic ministers, lectors, altar servers, our maintenance men, parish staff and secretaries for their dedicated service to our parish community. May God bless you with a happy and healthy New Year! In Christ, Msgr. Steve Knox Adult Confirma on Program Star ng February 1, 2018 This program is for adults (18 years and older) who are interested in receiving the Sacrament of Confirma on. 3 S, D 31, 2017 P 3 Winter Scripture Series Conversa ons with Jesus Held in Two Sessions on Tuesdays: January 9, January 16, January 23, January 30 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. in the Downtown Fr. Carse Center or 7:00 to 8:15 p.m. in Dempsey Hall on Crane Road Led by Msgr. Knox, Fr. Manno, Fr. Gonnella and Seminarian John Kladar In this Bible series we will look at some of the conversa ons that Jesus had with many different types of people. By exploring Jesus words and how he speaks to them, we hope to come to a deeper understanding of how he desires to speak with us and bring about spiritual growth into our lives. Tuesday, January 9 led by Msgr. Steve Knox: Jesus speaks with the suffering, sinners and outcasts. We see how Jesus comforts, heals, and forgives. Jesus had a great love for the least. All people ma ered in Jesus eyes, which is why he extended himself in compassion toward those who were burdened or were struggling. Tuesday, January 16 led by Fr. Manno: Jesus speaks with women. We see the importance of women in the life and teaching of Jesus, and how he relates to them specifically. The example and words of Jesus demonstrate that there is a fundamental dignity, value and worth to every human life, male and female, which needs to be respected. Tuesday, January 23 led by Fr. Gonnella: Jesus speaks with religious leaders. Jesus challenges his contemporaries understanding of God and righteousness. Jesus o en directed challenging cri ques toward the religious leaders of his day. We ll explore his cri ques and then focus on the leadership style of Jesus as an inspira on for contemporary religious leaders. Tuesday, January 30 led by Seminarian John Kladar: Jesus speaks with his Apostles. Both during his earthly life and a er his Resurrec on, the conversa ons Jesus had with his Apostles would change their lives forever. His words to them are relevant in every age and can change our lives as well. No need to register. You are welcome to a end as many sessions as your schedule allows. Each week we ll have a copy of the scriptures that will be used during the session so you don t need to bring a bible. No experience in scripture is required for par cipa on, just a desire to learn.
