2 P 2 S, S 16, 2018 Dear Friends in Christ, Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima The Blessed Virgin Mary always desires to draw us closer to her Son Jesus. Mary is not only the mother of Jesus, she is our spiritual mother as well. Like any mother, she would do anything for the well- being of her children. We ll have an opportunity to spend some special time with the Blessed Mother on September 25 & 26 when the International Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima will be here. For more information on the statue and the schedule please see the next page of today s bulletin. We are living in tumultuous times, so the need to stay centered in our faith is very important. We ll have some times that you can come for quiet prayer and veneration of this special image. Mary is a powerful intercessor and she knows that we need God s peace in our hearts, in our families, and in the world. Our Catholic Church also has a great need for healing and renewal. Almost all of the Marian apparitions ind Mary exhorting the faithful to fasting and prayer. The rosary is a very powerful prayer and I d highly encourage our whole parish to pray the rosary. The special prayer form opens our hearts so that the grace of God can low in and bring us divine peace, which we can then share with others. Please participate in some of the planned spiritual activities in connection with the visit. We will be having all night Eucharistic adoration at the Downtown Church beginning at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25 and continuing until 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 26. We will need to have Eucharistic adorers present at all the overnight hours so please consider spending an hour in prayer with our Eucharistic Lord and the image of our Lady of Fatima at the Downtown Church. We would like to have men present during the overnight hours so I d encourage the men of the parish to come forward and spend this special time with the Lord. We can bring all our prayers to the Lord and to the Blessed Mother. Many parishioners have a need for healing so we can bring those intentions along with any special intentions we may have. May this visit be a time of grace for our parish! Scam Alert! This past weekend I sent out a locknote to the parish concerning a spoo ing scam. Some scammers created an address with my name attached. They then sent out an under my name requesting gift cards. The message states that the request is coming from me but it is actually coming from these corrupt scammers. Many organizations are dealing with similar struggles. The only I ever use is my parish . We work with an excellent IT company to keep our systems secure. Unfortunately there are corrupt people out there who are always looking for ways to rip people off, and they can be very creative in a dark manner. If you have any questions on this please contact me or Patty Grueff at the of ice In Christ, Msgr. Steve Knox Are You Interested in Becoming Catholic? Let our Team help you discern whether God is calling you into full communion with the Church. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adult (RCIA) is a journey one of faith. If you, or someone you know, has felt a nudge to embark on this spiritual journey towards Catholicism, then RCIA may be right for you. Classes for Candidates and Sponsors begin on Wednesday, September 26th at 7:00 p.m. in the Downtown Church, Fr. Carse Center (lower level). The irst night is inquiry and introduction of the journey of becoming Catholic. For more information, please contact Pam at or ppurcell2010@comcast.net.

9 S, S 16, 2018 P 9 ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC SCHOOL St. Charles, IL Est Where Faith and the Future Meet First Days of St. Patrick s Catholic Preschool BOOK SUGGESTIONS Family Prayer Have you ever said, I really need to make more me to pray? Or have you felt like you are in a desert with your faith life? We all go through mes of drought in our faith. Maybe you are feeling like you have it all together and you are on fire with love for God. Most of us are somewhere in between. Our God is a pa ent God who keeps quietly whispering in our hearts. Calling us to grow more in love with Him everyday. Wai ng for us to make the me to grow in our rela- onship with our Savior. It seems that there are never enough hours in the day to get everything done. Why is it that God only gave us 24 hours and 7 days a week? Jesus is pre y clear with what is most important. Love the Lord your God...Love your neighbor as yourself. It is clear that our rela onship with God must be our number one priority, yet, it seems to be the last thing on the list. We encourage our students at St. Patrick s Catholic School to grow their daily prayer life and assist our families to grow as well. Here are some simple ways to grow in your rela onship with Jesus and help your family to grow in holiness. Pray before meals EVERYTIME. (Even at restaurants.) Pray a Guardian Angel prayer every me you get in the car. Do a short Examina on of Conscience before you go to bed. (What am I thankful for? What did I do well today? What can I do be er with tomorrow? What do I need to ask forgiveness for?) Make a prayer space in your home. This can be a small table, or even make your centerpiece at your dinner table a space of holiness. A statue, picture, prayer book, Bible, or anything that gives you a reminder to slow down and pray. Read books about Saints. There are many age appropriate books from children s board books to books for the elderly. The Saints are given to us to be models of faith we can emulate with our own lives. Turn your electronic devices off ten minutes earlier at night and use that me to sit quietly. Increase this me and see what making your friendship with Jesus will do. Be sure you know your Savior even be er than your Instagram friends! Through your commitment to grow your prayer life know that God will not be outdone in generosity! Every fire needs to be tended to in order to burn brightly. Make the me to stoke the fire of your love for Jesus. Robert Gonnella Assist. Vocation Dir. Vocation Corner n our Gospel today, St. Peter I makes his beautiful profession of faith in Jesus true identity. It is through that profession that Jesus then proclaims St. Peter as the rock on which the Church will be built. He makes St. Peter the first pope! All of this starts with the simple question that Jesus asks them: But who do you say that I am? It is a piercing question, and it is one that we should imagine Jesus asking each one of us. How would you answer that question? Who is Jesus in your life? Jesus does not want to simply be one part of your life amongst many others. He wants to be the center of your life! He wants to be higher than everything else and a part of everything else. It is not until you are willing to proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord of your life that you will be able to discern your vocation well. Brothers and sisters, we are all here to give our lives for the glory of Jesus Christ. Do not be afraid to make Him the center of your life and subordinate everything else to Him. In doing so, you will be professing your faith in Him and opening yourself to Him so that He can do great things in your life, just as He did in the life of St. Peter.
