2 Page 2 Sunday July 17, 2016 Dear Friends in Christ, Church Renovation/Restoration I hope everyone is having a good summer. We have been moving along with the plans for the downtown church and the Fr. Carse Center (lower level). We are planning on doing the work beginning in January and concluding in March. This will necessitate moving all the Masses to the church for those three months. There will be a few Masses at to accommodate the increased numbers. Beginning in January the plan is to have Saturday evening Masses at 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Sunday Masses will be at 7:30 am, 9:00 am, 10:30 am, 12:15 pm and Mass in Spanish at 5:00 pm. A renewed, restored, and beauti ied downtown church will be worth the sacri ice that will be entailed for these three months. Over the next few months, I will be providing information on important elements of the project in order to keep the parish updated. An important part of the plan is the music area. We will be moving the music ministry to the east side of the loft. This area is already used at the Mass in Spanish. The cantor will still lead the psalm from the ambo, but will be in the loft for the rest of the Mass. Our current organ is no longer used and is beyond repair. We will be getting a new organ which is one of the pricier parts of the project. We are thankful that a parishioner has donated a new piano for the downtown church. These new core instruments and a new sound/speaker system will be great additions and will enhance prayerfulness and participation at our liturgies. The music ministry will need more space but there will still be plenty of seating in the loft area. Moving the music ministry upstairs will allow us to provide for more handicapped seating in the current music area. We are also planning on adding assistive listening devices for those who are hard of hearing. In the lower level, we will be replacing the looring and updating the lighting in the Fr. Carse Center. We ll also be adding a family bathroom and enlarging and improving the kitchen. We have numerous funeral luncheons and other social events held there. Having a larger kitchen will be a blessing for all the parish volunteers who work on these events. We are also planning on improving the sound and video system in the Fr. Carse Center. The theme of the downtown church project is Preserving Our Heritage. Our downtown church is a gem and a very important part of the history of the Catholic Church in our area. In order to move forward with the project, a fundraising initiative will begin in late August. Our goal is to raise $1.5 million for the project. We will be asking all parishioners to consider a three year pledge. If we receive good participation, we should be able to attain the goal. We have always had a good response when needs have arisen in our parish. So please give some prayerful consideration to how you can participate. In Christ, Msgr. Steve Memorial Mass for Deceased Children On Wednesday, August 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the Church Please join us as we remember the lives of children who have gone before us in death.
