2 Page 2 Sunday, February 22, 2015 Dear Friends in Christ, Statuary and New Devotional Area Here we are at the first Sunday of Lent already! We ask the Lord to purify us and renew us so that the power of his resurrection becomes even more manifest in our lives when we come to Easter. This is not a solo journey. We make this journey in community, praying for each other, supporting and encouraging one another during this holy season of self-denial and sacrifice. A very important part of our Catholic tradition is our belief in the Communion of Saints. Those who have gone before us and are with God pray for us and root us on as we make the journey of faith. We have some new, visible reminders of this truth at the Crane Road church. This weekend you ll notice that there are restored statues in the sanctuary and in the chapel. In the sanctuary we have a beautiful statue of Mary and Jesus, and a statue of our patron St. Patrick. St. Patrick was in the school for years. He has been repaired and repainted. He is right behind the celebrant s chair at Mass, and the priests are certainly happy to have the prayers of St. Patrick. We are blessed to have him as our patron. We also have his image at the church. The Mary statue was at the Sacred Heart Seminary in Geneva that closed many decades ago. Having a significant image of Jesus mother in the Church is normative for Catholic churches and will bring great consolation to many who come into our church. Mary always desires to bring us closer to her Son. Over in the chapel area we have moved the tabernacle forward, behind the daily Mass altar. This will make the tabernacle more visible from the main body of the Church, and bring it closer to the altar when we are celebrating Mass in the chapel. We ve created a devotional area behind the tabernacle where people can go to light a candle and lift up their prayers. We have the restored statues of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, St. Mary, and St. Joseph. The chapel is open all day during the week until around 8:30pm, so feel free to stop by and spend some prayer time. It s great to see the confessionals used more frequently over in that area as well! The new Stations of the Cross will be here near the end of February. We will be praying them for the first time on Friday, March 13 at 7:00pm. We ll bless them first, and then pray the Stations. I d like to thank all the parishioners who donated so generously to fund the sacred art project. We also had parishioners come forward to donate toward the repair and restoration of the above mentioned statuary. In addition parishioners donated the Adoring Angels, Stations of the Cross, a new Holy Family Statue, a new processional Cross, a Good Friday Crucifix, new ciborium that contain the hosts at Mass, and a cope and humeral veil that are used for Adoration and Benediction. All these elements help us in our worship of God as a community of faith. May the Lord bless your Lenten journey! In Christ, Msgr. Steve Fr. Browning s Lenten Suggestions The beautiful season of Lent is upon us. It is a season of renewal and refocusing. Let s not let it go by without taking advantage of such a rich opportunity. God gives many wonderful graces during this season. So how do you take advantage of it? Here are some thoughts to get you started. Let s pray for each other!! Come up with a plan that is prudent for your state of life. Daily Mass: will change your life. As often as you can. Confession: at some point during Lent. Daily Prayer: 15 minutes minimum a day, 30 minutes is optimal. Suggestions: Morning Offering, Rosary, Read Sacred Scripture (Start with the Gospels or the Daily Mass Readings), Divine Mercy Chaplet, Read a good spiritual book (Prayer for Beginners, Peter Kreeft) or me for other suggestions. Stop by Adoration on Tuesday or Wednesday (another life changer) Fast: Is there something in your life that steals your time, or is sinful, or focuses you on yourself instead of God and others? If so, eradicate it from your life. Almsgiving: Find a good charitable organization to support either financially or through volunteer work. The spiritual work you put into Lent will bear many spiritual fruits, because Jesus is a generous giver. Jesus, I Trust in You!

Spirit Week activities take as long as six months to develop and execute. What did you plan for this year? We planned the always popular Teacher Dance and Recycle Fashion Show with costumes designed and worn by the students. Monsignor Steve and the parish priests joined the teachers in the 8thgrade vs. Teacher s Volleyball game. We had a special ceremony honoring Sister Liz for her many contributions to our school. Additionally, we coordinated a school wide collection of items which benefitted three area homeless shelters. Finally, dress-up days and assemblies were scheduled through the week. Most people with celiac disease are able to consume these hosts. If you or someone you know has celiac disease or gluten intolerance issues and would like to receive communion, call Judy or Jenny in the Parish Office at When receiving the low-gluten host, we ask that you receive from the priest; he will have a special pyx in his ciborium which will contain the special hosts. When you come up to the priest, simply say special host, and he ll provide that for you. You no longer need to bring your own pyx.
