2 PAGE 2 SUNDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2017 Dear Friends in Christ, Light of the World Retreat and Youth Rally This weekend we had an opportunity to hear an invitation for the upcoming Light of the World Retreat which is set for November 3rd through 6th. If you are free that weekend, I would highly recommend this retreat. Light of the World retreats are led by our parish priests and our parishioners. They are based on the sacraments and Catholic spirituality and truly help participants grow closer to God. The longest journey is from the head to the heart, and most Catholics could bene it from allowing their faith in God to take root more deeply in their hearts. If you sense God is calling you to something more, LOTW is a great way to take that step. A retreat over the course of four days seems like a huge time commitment. The reason the retreat is paced out over four days is to provide the opportunity to slow down and open ourselves more deeply to the presence of God. Because it is a challenging world we live in, we develop some hardness of heart and mind in order to protect ourselves. On the retreat we lower the defenses and allow God to enter in because he knows what we need to become more whole and alive. The weekend consists of some talks around spiritual themes, discussions, celebration of sacraments, quiet time, some great fellowship, all in a relaxed atmosphere. There is a more detailed description of the weekend on the next page of the bulletin. We d love to have you on the weekend so please give that some prayerful consideration. I d also like to extend an invitation for our 8 th graders and High School students to participate in Diocesan Youth Summit Rally at Rock Valley College in Rockford on Sunday, October 29. Mike Zak, our Director of Youth Ministry, will be leading our group which will be going up by bus. Our very own Fr. Manno is the Emcee for the event which features excellent youth speakers, great music and Mass with Bishop Malloy. If you would like to participate, we ll need your registration no later than 10 am Monday of this coming week so that we can make our plans. You can also register through our website. We ve had a great response to the Mercy for the Starving event which will take place at our parish on Saturday, October 28. All the volunteer spots are illed so we re looking forward to a great service day. The event is being sponsored by St. John Neumann parish, St. Patrick s and our Knights Council. I d like to thank Fr. Dave Peck, St. John Neumann Parish, and our Knights for their great support! In Christ, Msgr. Steve Knox Faith Questions, Catholic Answers Tuesday, October 17th, choose a time 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. Downtown or 7:00 to 8:15 p.m. at Crane Road Many of Your questions and others will be answered, some are shown below. PATRICK CATHOLIC SCHOOL Where Faith and the Future Meet Congratula ons to St. Patrick's Catholic School eighth grader Cali Papez on her acceptance into the District 9 ILMEA Junior Honor Band! Cali not only plays in our St. Patrick School Green Band, but also for our weekly all school Mass choir. On top of that, she takes me out of her schedule to play at area nursing homes bringing great joy to the residents. Way to go using your God given gi s and talents! Weekend Update October the month of the Holy Rosary At St. Patrick School we begin our school day with prayer. Our staff prays together before our students arrive and our students pray in their homerooms. They begin with the Morning Offering and then offer inten ons for each other. During the month of October, we dedicate our prayer me to the rosary. Every day our students pray a decade of the rosary either in the morning with their homeroom or in Religion class, depending upon the grade level. They also meditate on one mystery every day as we help our students learn more about praying the rosary. Every Wednesday during the month of October we pray a decade of the rosary before our All School Mass. If you have never prayed the rosary or it s been a while, this would be a good month to start a new habit. Many mes people say it is difficult to pray or I don t feel close to God, especially in troubling mes or mes where you may feel like you are in a spiritual desert. Praying the rosary especially in those mes will bring peace and comfort from the rote prayers. The more you prac ce praying the rosary the more it will become second nature. Before you know it you are medita ng on the life and miracles of Jesus! If you have never prayed the rosary or it s been a while this would be a good month to start a new habit. The rosary is a prayer for everyone of every age. Mary is the safest, easiest, shortest, and most perfect way of approaching Jesus. ~ St. Louis de Montfort St. Patrick Catholic School Main Campus (K-8): 787 Crane Road, St. Charles, Monsignor Steve joins the 4 year old preschoolers for Church Chats each month in the Downtown Church.
