2 Page 2 Sunday, February April 19, 28, Dear Friends in Christ, Growth in the Kingdom of God Page 3 It s amazing how often Jesus uses nature to illustrate the truths of the Kingdom of God. In today s gospel Jesus points out the importance of repentance. We need to turn away from any darkness and turn toward the light. Jesus uses some nature symbols to point out God s incredible patience. He s always going to give us the grace we need to grow closer to him, but he won t force us to do anything. If we freely accept that grace, spiritual growth will happen in our lives. As with most of Jesus parables and stories, they end with a challenge. We will need to be accountable for our lives when we come before the judgment seat of God. So let s not procrastinate when it comes to our relationship with God! We don t know the day nor the hour when we will be called home. May we be ready to meet the Lord should that time come unexpectedly. In the spirit of repentance, our diocese is once again going to have a Be Reconciled Day. The priests of the diocese will be available all day on Wednesday, March 16 for the sacrament of reconciliation. There was a great response to this day the past two years, so we are looking forward to another great day of experiencing God s forgiveness. This will be a special day this year because we are in the year of mercy. Fr. Browning, Fr. Deitz and I will be available from 7:30 am until 8:00 pm on the 16 th at Crane Road Church. Fr. Jorge Loaiza will be available to hear confessions in Spanish at the Downtown church from 9:00 until Noon on the 16 th. Next week is the Here I Am Lord Conference. The daytime activities are geared toward the youth, but the evening sessions are for all ages. We have some excellent speakers coming so please participate to the extent your schedule allows. On Saturday evening, we have a concert in the Church with John Michael Talbot. In addition to his music, he has a great message that he weaves into the evening. Each of these evenings provides an opportunity for each one of us to reach out and invite family and friends to join us. Each of these speakers would be especially effective for those who have been away from the Church or for those who are struggling with their faith. Let s reach out with the love of Christ. Many thanks to Mike Zak for arranging the Conference! May the Lord s blessings be with you during the rest of the season of Lent. Let s keep growing! In Christ, Msgr. 5 Sunday, February 28, 2016 Page 5 The latest in RCIA news... Meet Our RCIA Participants My name is Jillian Kay Peterson. My background is empty of any religion. I found the Catholic Church through my boyfriend and his love for Jesus and the Catholic Church. The learning curve is hard but I have grown to love God as well as the Catholic Church. I am excited to move forward in my life with Jesus by my side. My name is Doug Cermak. I joined RCIA to learn more about the Catholic Church and to choose a faith that I wanted to stay committed to. I m hoping to complete the RCIA program with more knowledge than when I joined, and also to becoming closer with God. My name is Kristen Hamer. I was baptized Catholic at St. Patrick s at the downtown church. I met my soon to be husband, Brian, nearly five years ago and quickly became inspired by his love for God and wanted to share that with him. My mom is my best friend and also has a strong Catholic faith, which further inspired me to join RCIA. I can say with complete confidence that joining RCIA was one of the best decisions of my life. My name is Anne DelloStritto. I was baptized and confirmed as an Episcopalian. My husband, Gary, is Catholic and together we have raised our three children as Catholics. We were attending Mass at St. Patrick s for the last 15 years, since our move to Illinois. I feel very welcome at St. Patrick and look forward to being part of this church community. My name is Brittany Ricklefs. I was raised and baptized in a nondenominational faith. I decided to join RCIA because my husband and I want to raise our children Catholic. I started thinking about becoming Catholic when my now husband and I got engaged. I wanted to share the same faith as my husband and my children. So once we got married I decided to join RCIA. I look forward to this Easter Vigil and joining the Catholic faith. My name is Jackie Gilpin. I was baptized Catholic and always attended church with my family but I never received any other sacraments other than being baptized as a baby. I recently got engaged and I knew if I wanted to start my marriage on the right foot; RCIA was the perfect stepping stone for me. I wanted to learn more about my faith, the Church and ultimately create a positive path to follow with my marriage and my future family that my fiancé and I will create together. 13 Sunday, February 28, 2016 Page 13 St. Patrick Catholic School... Exciting things are going on from 8th Grade to Preschool... Great Things are Happening at the Crane Road Campus! Mrs. Crisci continues to complete goals on the three year plan she developed when she first arrived. This school year new textbook and teaching materials were purchased to updated and/or bring consistency among grade levels; bringing a better scope and sequence of learning: Superkids Literacy adopted in grades 1st and 2nd. This brings consistency of skills and instruction from preschool through 2nd grade. With the $13,000 raised for guided reading instruction, we will be purchasing leveled readers and novels that will meet the varied reading levels of all our students. Sadlier Oxford Math Program has been implemented into 3rd & 4th grades, bringing consistency in math instruction from kindergarten through 4th grade. McGraw Hill Math Program was purchased to bring consistency in 5th - 8th grade as well as updated an outdated program. Voyages in English by Loyola Press was purchased for 3rd 5th grade to bring consistency in grammar, writing, literacy and language arts instruction from 3rd through 8th grade. The Faith and Life Religion Series is now used in 4th and 5th grades to bring consistency through 8th grade, and it contains a more in-depth study or our Catholic faith. Preschool Learning Can Be So Much Fun! Our preschool friends take some time over Valentine s week to spend time with friends and have some fun. Find out why we were voted one of the Best of the Fox preschools by St Charles parents. Classes for the school year are filling up FAST! Interested parents can contact Veronica Day, Preschool Director, at for more information or to schedule a tour at 118 N. 5 th Street, St. Charles.
