2 P 2 S, J 22, 2018 Dear Friends in Christ, Welcome Bishop James Wall Next weekend we will have our annual appeal to support the missions. We often think of far distant lands and parishes that are supported by this appeal. In the United States we have a number of missionary dioceses. Bishop Wall is the bishop of the Diocese of Gallup. This diocese covers over 55,000 square miles of Northeastern Arizona and Northwestern New Mexico. In the diocese there are seven Native American reservations and pueblos and approximately 63,000 Catholics. There are many parts of the diocese that struggle because of poverty and inadequate resources. Like Bishop Wall, a number of the priests of the Diocese of Gallup come to parishes like ours in the summer to seek prayer and support. Bishop will be describing his ministry and the people he serves. We ll be taking up a second collection at all Masses next weekend. I would encourage your generosity so that they can continue to be strengthened to serve God s people. I would like to thank the Bishop for taking time out of his busy schedule to be with us. He puts on many miles covering a huge geographical area in Gallup, so we are happy that he has made the journey to St. Charles to share the gospel with us. Many of you are familiar with Judy Lynch. She has been our parish receptionist/secretary for 23 years. Judy recently made the decision to retire which will take place in mid-august. She is looking forward to spending more time with her family and enjoying retirement. Judy and her husband Dave are long time parishioners and we have been blessed by their presence. They will continue to be parishioners here at St. Pat s. Judy has been a very dedicated staff member who has assisted many, many parishioners over the years. She is kind, helpful, hard-working, faith- illed and blessed with a great sense of humor. She re lects the love of Christ in all her interactions. We wish Judy and her family God s blessings. Tuesday, July 31 Led by Fr. Sarmiento: The Life and Message of St. Paul. Fr. Sarmiento will give us great insight into the life and message of this great apostle who brought the Gospel to the world. He ll look at the main themes of Paul s New Testament letters and highlight how Paul s life is a great example of the power of God s grace, the need for conversion, and the importance of witnessing to our faith. Tuesday, August 7 Led by Seminarian Nick Sentovich: A Very Human Saint: Lessons from the Life of St. Peter. Seminarian Sentovich will explore the scriptural portrait of this man who would become the first Pope and lead the Church. St. Peter was a great sinner who would become a great saint and a powerful witness to the truths of the Gospel. We can take great consolation in the awareness that St. Peter also needed to go through a conversion process just like we do. Peer Ministry is made up of high school teens from a wide variety of backgrounds, schools and interests who place faith as a priority in their lives. PMLT offers many opportunities for teens and their families to get involved. The team prepares retreats, attends faith building programs and offers service to others. Being a member involves dedication, prayer and responsibility. It is also a prerequisite in order to be considered as a Camp WOW Counselor. Stan Fortuna, C.F.R. shared at a Franciscan Youth Conference, Family goes like this Forget About Me, I Love You. Many say that rela onships need to be 50/50 to be considered healthy, when in reality rela onships be that of friends, classmates, spouses, coworkers, etc. need to be 100/100. We all know those rela onships where one person is pu ng in half the effort of the other. It never works too well. One person becomes exhausted and at a certain point either walks away or becomes very resen ul. It s easy to look at social media and become jealous or envious of what appears to be someone else s perfect life. The thing is we are not called to live someone else s life (which, by the way is never as perfect as it may look on a screen.) We are called to live our lives, the lives God has blessed us with. We are called to give 100% to those God has placed in our own lives. We are asked to give of the gi s that we have to those who most need them, and then in turn to receive the gi s faithfully that we are given from others. Family is about the good, the bad, and everything in between. Love is willing the good of another through service and sacrifice. It takes a village to raise faithful healthy children. Parent s are not called to walk this journey alone with their families. We are very blessed to have such a vibrant parish and as an extension of the parish to have a faith-filled school to help us on our journey. As someone once said, God does not call the equipped, He equips the called. Our roll as a Catholic school is to help answer the call that each student received at their bap sm, to become saints. Everything we do from the very moment we meet a new family focuses on this goal. 13 S, J 22, 2018 P 13 Dear Friends, For those that do not know, Hesed House is a Homeless Shelter located in Aurora. Each night an average of 195 men, women and children come to Hesed House seeking a place to sleep, do laundry, eat a meal and find medical and legal assistance. St. Patrick will provide food on Wednesday October 3, 2018, December 5, 2018, February 6, 2019 and April 3, On these days breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided by St. Patrick s parishioners. We NEED more people to DONATE FOOD. We are in need of coffee, milk, cole slaw, baked beans, mustard, ketchup, relish, eggs and frozen chopped onions. Have a wonderful summer. Vocation Corner hat is the last thing you do before W you fall asleep? Do you communicate with God? If you do, what does this look like? This question is important because as we close our eyes for the night we should be giving our last thoughts and words to the Father that created us simply from love. Fr. Kyle Manno I am sure that many of us, when pondering this question, have an answer that involves some type of prayer to God which probably includes thanking him for the day and asking him to help ourselves and our families. This is good and maybe we can bring the last few minutes of the night to an even more focused place. So here is a little thing to do each night that only takes 3 minutes, but can be incredibly powerful for our lives! First, spend one minute thanking God for all the blessings and gifts that He bestowed upon you that day. Second, spend one minute thinking of your sins, the ways you failed and the things you should have done and asking for forgiveness. Lastly, spend one last minute picking one task that you will work on for the next day. This could be being more loving to a family member, going to bed at a reasonable time, waking up early to pray, etc. These last minutes are very crucial because often we have a laundry list of things that we need to work on in our lives but we become overwhelmed by the heaviness of it which then sets us up for failure. This setting out to work on one thing the next day helps focus our intentions and create spiritual growth in our lives. So to recap...one minute of thanks, one minute of acknowledge of sins, and lastly one minute of the next day s goal. Do this nightly and each day you will be constantly striving to grow in holiness and becoming the person God created you to be!
