2 Page 2 Sunday, December 25, 2016 Dear Friends in Christ, Merry Christmas! I d like to welcome everyone as we gather to celebrate the birth of Christ. Christmas reveals the great love of God because he chooses to be born into our world to bring us new life and to save us from darkness and sin. As we allow Jesus to be born more deeply into our hearts, our lives will be changed and we will know a love of another kind, a divine love that is freely given to you and me. The challenge of Christmas is to share what we have been given, to share the love of Christ in word and action. As we gather for Christmas Mass, some of you are burdened by sickness or grief. Others struggle because of discouragement or depression. Christmas is also about hope. Jesus came into the world in order to enter into our struggles, and to give us the grace to persevere and to not lose heart. Our struggles may never go away completely, but the Lord will let us know that he is with us at all times, helping us to shoulder our crosses, and to know that we are never alone. Let us pray for each other so that we can know the uplifting power of God in our lives. He will work through us to lift up others, and to be that beacon of light in a world that is oftentimes darkened by sin and violence. I d like to share a piece by Robert Louis Stevenson entitled A Christmas Prayer. O God our loving Father, help us rightly to remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the glad song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and the worship of the Wise Men. Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil by the blessing that Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clean hearts. May the Christmas morning make us happy to be Thy children, and the Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus sake. Amen. Revised Weekend Mass Schedule Beginning on January 7 & 8, 2017 Right after the New Year we will begin work at the Downtown church. The church will be closed for approximately three months. All Masses will take place at Crane Road for those three months. Beginning the weekend of January 7 & 8, Masses will be on Saturdays at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Sunday Masses will be at 7:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 12:15 p.m. and a Mass in Spanish at 5:00 p.m. Weekday Masses at Crane Road begin on Monday, January 2. Weekday Masses will be at 7:00 a.m. and 8:50 a.m. Monday through Friday. Saturday morning Mass will be at 8:50 a.m. Our confession schedule will remain the same. We will be praying the rosary after the 7:00 a.m. Mass and before the 8:50 a.m. Mass. We are getting new pews at the downtown church. If you would like one of the old pews, please call Judy in the of ice at The 5 ft. pews are all taken. If you would like a 10 ft., 15 ft. or a 20 ft. pew, please call Judy. 4 Page 4 Sunday, December 25, 2016 Divorce Recovery Program Divorce and Beyond is a Catholic based peer-ministry support group designed to help guide men and women through the process of divorce. The program explores the issues of divorce, with the goal of leading participants toward ultimate forgiveness, happiness and new life. Starting on January 5 th thru March 23 rd, 2017, there will be an 11-week session on Thursday Nights from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at St. Patrick Church, 6N491 Crane Rd, St. Charles The cost of the program is $10. You will meet some of your fellow parishioners in a relaxed atmosphere and we have some great food and snacks planned. Along with Msgr. Steve, our speakers are all parishioners who will share wisdom they gained on life s journey. Many Catholics have been baptized and have received their First Holy Communion, but haven t received Confirmation. We are going to begin a seven week preparation program beginning on Thursday, February 2. Those who participate will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation at the Easter Vigil on the evening of Saturday, April 15. The instructors for the sessions will be the parish priests, along with Deacon Mike Smith and Mike Alber who is preparing to become a Permanent Deacon. We will be providing an overview of Catholicism, with a special emphasis on the Sacrament of Confirmation. Classes will take place at Crane Road from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. We will meet on seven consecutive Thursdays beginning on Thursday, February 2. Coming up the retreat will be January 20 thru 22, Join with over 100 other High School students from three (3) parishes for our annual WINTER FORUM RETREAT. It will take place at St. Pat s Downtown Campus and lots of new things are planned! It s open to current 9th thru 12th grade students. ALL Info. on-line Dominic Hartke I am 18 years old and am a senior at St. Edward High School. I play football, volleyball and I bowl. My favorite thing to do is hang out with my friends and listen to music. I plan to major in Biochemistry at the University of Minnesota. My favorite scripture passage is 2 Timothy 1:7, "For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self discipline." 11 Sunday, December 25, 2016 Page 11...An Invitation to the Upcoming Parish Mission of Renewal Christ Be Our Light Sunday, March 26th, through Thursday, March 30th, 6:30 to 7:45 PM We have a wonderful spiritual experience planned for the parish during the last week of March. Fr. Pete Schavitz, a Redemptorist priest from St. Louis, will be here leading our Parish Mission. Fr. Pete is a dynamic speaker who has been leading parish renewal experiences for almost 25 years. Fr. Pete s background includes presenting retreats to people of all ages. He has served as a seminary professor and has been involved in vocation ministry and parish ministry as well as several radio and video projects. Fr. Pete has been giving parish missions since 1985 and has nearly 300 parish missions to his credit that have been very well received. As a native Chicagoan, he always looks forward to returning to this area. What is a Parish Mission? It is an extraordinary preaching event meant to help you and your family grow in your faith. It s for everyone in the parish because we all have room to grow. In addition to speaking at all of the Masses on the weekend of March 25 & 26, Fr. Pete will lead a service each evening, Sunday through Thursday, beginning at 6:30 p.m. and lasting about an hour and fifteen minutes. Following the service, there will be refreshments for all participants. Do you have to attend every night? That would be ideal, but you can attend any night that fits your schedule. All Are Welcome! We celebrated our 6 th Annual Christmas Pageant on Friday, December 9 th. Our 4 s performed the Nativity Scene and the 2 s and 3 s sang Christmas songs. This bootcamp is open to any 5th-8th grade baseball player who would like to kick-start the 2017 season with a preseason camp designed to give him the skills, drills and workout plan necessary to take his game up a notch.
