2 Page 2 Sunday, Sunday, November April 19, 15, 2015 Page 3 Dear Friends in Christ, Parish Mission! This weekend we welcome Fr. Albert Haase, OFM to our parish to lead us in a parish mission. In addition to speaking at all the Masses this weekend, he will be speaking on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week at 7:00 p.m. He is a dynamic speaker with great insights into the scriptures and spirituality. He makes it real and is able to help his listeners connect the truths of our faith with everyday life. I d encourage you to attend as many gatherings as you can. You won t be disappointed! This is a great opportunity to reach out to family and friends, and invite them to attend with you. These gatherings will be especially helpful for someone who may be away from the church or is in a searching mode on their faith journey. What is the number one reason why people come back to the church? It s because someone they know and respect invited them. We all know family members, friends, and work colleagues who are disconnected from their faith. It may be your kind and gentle invitation that helps someone you know take a step back into their faith. I would especially recommend the first night of the parish mission. Fr. Albert also has a great sense of humor which helps to make the atmosphere welcoming and comfortable. On another note, Thanksgiving Day is approaching. We ll be having Mass at 8:30 a.m. at the Downtown church and 9:00 a.m. at Crane Road. Please consider coming to one of the Masses to thank God for the blessings in your life. If you can bring a non-perishable food item or items to Mass it would be greatly appreciated by our St. Vincent de Paul Society. Those items will go to our food pantry for eventual distribution. On another holiday note, our Christmas Giving Tree will be going up next weekend in both churches. Last year we had a great response to the Giving Tree so we re looking forward to another generous response. May the Lord bless you and may God bless our parish during our Parish Mission! In Christ, Msgr. Steve Thanksgiving Day Masses on Thursday, November 26 All are welcome to participate in our Thanksgiving Day Masses: 8:30 a.m. at the Downtown Church 9:00 a.m. at the Crane Road Church A great way to begin your Thanksgiving Day is to gather for Mass to thank God for all the blessings He has bestowed upon us. If possible, bring a non-perishable food item to donate to our food pantry. LET S GATHER AND GIVE THANKS!

3 Sunday, November 15, 2015 Page 3 Our Parish Mission with Fr. Albert Haase, OFM Starting on Monday, November 16th Continuing on Tuesday, November 17th And Concluding on Wednesday, November 18th from 7:00 to 8:15 p.m. at the Crane Rd Church The Theme is: Signed and Sealed with the Cross He will speak at all the Masses the weekend of November 14 and 15 and then over three nights will lead us in the parish mission. As early as the 3 rd century, Christians started to sign themselves with a cross. Eighteen centuries later, we continue the practice of making the sign of the cross when we start to pray, when we celebrate the sacraments, and when we enter a church. Done so often and usually out of habit, has this ancient gesture lost its meaning for us? We will explore the identity of our God proclaimed in the ancient gesture of being signed with a Cross. We will also explore the challenges & responsibilities we accept when we seal our lives with the sign of our salvation. Ordained a Franciscan priest in 1983, Fr. Albert, is a popular preacher, teacher, spiritual director and radio personality. A former missionary to mainland China for over eleven years, he is the author of eight books on popular spirituality and the presenter on three best selling DVDs by Paraclete Press. He trains spiritual directors in the diocese of Springfield, IL. He resides in Texas. Visit his website at Please reach out to family and friends and invite them to join us for this life-giving parish mission. Join us for cookies & refreshments at the end of each program. Grief Support Gatherings Led by Msgr. Steve Knox and Nancy Kuhn, LMFT Monday, November 23 and Tuesday, December 1 Monday, November 23 Handling the Holidays When you ve experienced the loss of a loved one, every area of your life is impacted. Our faith can strengthen us on this journey, and we ll also look at some practical strategies that can help us during this time of year. 7:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., Crane Road Tuesday, December 1 Stations of the Cross for the Bereaved This evening Msgr. Steve will lead us in a special Stations of the Cross for those who have experienced a loss. Jesus Way of the Cross reveals his sacrificial love for you and me. The Knights of Columbus are shining examples of willingly serving the Lord. Have you ever thought of serving God in some capacity? One key to being a Knight is we can lead our busy life and then serve God in the time we save for Him. 9 Sunday, November 15, 2015 Page 9 St. Patrick Catholic School... Exciting things are going on from 8th Grade to Preschool. Activities that enhance classroom experience are regularly planned: Guided Reading is an approach that helps students become fluent, independent readers. School principal Mrs. Crisci held a informal coffee in the library to educate parents about guided reading and how it is being implemented. The meeting included parent participation illustrating the many benefits of Guided Reading. It is the goal of the school to access financial support outside of our parish and to take advantage of the charitable programs that popular retailers offer. To help with this goal we are making you aware of the businesses that donate a portion of their profits back to our school, it does not cost you anything additional. If you are going to shop Amazon or Barnes and Noble please remember: St. Patrick Home & School is now registered to receive donations from amazonsmile. Once you link your amazon account to St. Patrick 0.5% of every dollar you spend will go to our school. To get started go to the following website Sign into your amazon account and you should see it link to St. Patrick Church*. Every time you shop make sure you go to amazon.smile.com. It s the same products & services, allowing purchases to be tracked for donation to St. Pat s H&S. *The Church and School share the same tax id number but all proceeds from amazonsmile goes to St. Patrick Home & School. Barnes and Noble Shop day to benefit St. Patrick School is on December 4th from 9 am - 10 pm. Please mention St. Patrick School at checkout. This year St. Patrick's Home and School Association will be hosting a Holiday shopping vendor fair in addition to the St. Patrick School's Santa Shoppe. When: December 5, 2015 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Where: Saint Patrick Catholic School We are looking for vendors that sell items such as jewelry, make-up, home goods thru a direct sale company, or crafters that sell homemade goods. If you or someone you know is interested, please contact Dana Oleksyn at or at danam9009@yahoo.com ASAP! Please note: Space is limited, so spaces are on a first come, first serve basis. Only one vendor per company (example: only one origami owl rep or one Thirty-one rep) will be accepted. The PK2 and PK3 students learned a lot about fire safety. The St. Charles Fire Department came and taught us about what to do in case of a fire and how to stop, drop, and roll. They showed us what a fire fighter looks like in all their gear so we aren t frightened when we see them. They also showed us their really cool fire truck and afterwards we practiced our shape and color recognition, our listening skills and our creativity to make our OWN fire trucks. What a great day!! Come Join Us! Find out why we were voted one of the Best of the Fox preschools by St. Charles Families! We still have preschool spots available in our PK2, PK3 and PK4 programs for this year. If you know of anyone who is looking for an award winning, faith-based preschool program, please refer them to St. Patrick Catholic Preschool. Interested parents can contact Veronica Day at for more info. & to schedule a tour. 118 N 5th Street, St. Charles, preschool@stpatrickparish.org
