2 Page 2 From the Desk of Father Raaser This year marks 242 years since our Independence from England. We continue to be the longest Constitutional Republic in the history of the world. God has certainly blessed and protected America. Our country started from the principle that government was made for people, and not people for the state. We are not the servants or slaves to government, rather the government is to serve, protect and care for its citizens. These ideals were very familiar to the Hebrews, the early Christians, and to our founding fathers and they are still important issues today. When the government oversteps its bounds, we the citizens must speak up. We have the right, sometimes even the obligation to speak up, always respectfully and in love. No form of government is perfect, because we are all human beings, with our foibles and flaws, our sinfulness. We need the law of God, natural law to guide and frame our human laws. When our human laws go against God s law, we must choose to change our human laws to reflect the truth of God. Many times, it is an uphill battle, we have many things against us, but the One Person we do have is God Himself. Our first loyalty and love is to God, then everyone else, even our beloved country. We all are called, and are called to teach our young to be patriotic and respectful of the things of our country, our veterans, our flag, the offices of president, congress and senate. We certainly don t have to agree with the individual who is holding the office, but we must respect the office and what it represents. We need to return to civility in our country, especially in our public discourse. Vulgarity, name-calling and slander should never be part of our discussion. It hides and distracts from the debate, the search for the truth. Independence Day makes us grateful to God for our country. Most of us will be at barbeques, fireworks, the pool today, but how many of us will start the day with Mass? We need to thank God for our country, our freedoms, our men and women who have fought or died to keep those freedoms, and the brave men and women in the armed forces around the world today. We need to pray for peace and justice in our world. We as Americans have many things to be thankful for, and our greatest prayer of thanksgiving is the Mass. Our Mass schedule is as follows: 7:00 and 9:00 AM. May God bless America, our President, our political leaders and all those who serve in the Armed Services. Happy Independence Day!

Today my heart and my soul are free to praise you. For this, I am very thankful. On this Independence Day, I am reminded of all those who have sacrificed for my freedom, following the example of your Son, Jesus Christ. Let me not take my freedom, both physical and spiritual, for granted. May I always remember that a very high price was paid for my freedom. My freedom cost others their very lives. Lord, today, bless those who have served and continue to give their lives for my freedom. With favor and bounty, meet their needs and watch over their families. Dear Father, I am so thankful for this nation. For all the sacrifices others have made to build and defend this country, I am grateful. Thank you for the opportunities and freedoms we have in the United States of America. Help me never to take these blessings for granted. Help me to live my life in a way that glorifies you, Lord. MASS CARDS The giving of a Mass Card to an individual or a family is a traditional and honored custom of the Catholic Community. Mass Cards can be given or sent for:-the repose of the soul of a deceased person or -for a Special Intention: -Special Intention Cards are for a living person and are obtained for a number of reasons: general good wishes, birthdays, anniversaries, return to good health, in thanksgiving, or for a particular need or moment in the life of another, e.g. a new home. There are two types of Mass Cards: -An Announced Mass means that the Mass will be celebrated on a certain day at a scheduled Mass time when the priest announces the intention to the congregation and it is printed in the weekly parish bulletin. -An Unannounced Mass refers to a Mass when the intention is remembered by one of the priests at a Mass that has no announced intention. Mass cards may be obtained at the Parish Center during regular office hours (9 AM 4:30 PM, Mon. - Fri.). The donation for an Announced Mass is $ 15; $ 10 for an Unannounced Mass
