THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: First & Third Sundays at 1:00 PM. Expectant parents may contact the Rectory Office to arrange for the baptism seminar class on the fourth Monday of every other month. The class is held in the Rectory, at 7:30 PM. Adults are baptized and confirmed at the Easter Vigil after completing the stages of the Rite of Christian Initiation. RCIA Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: A process for those who wish to enter the Catholic Faith, or for present Catholic individuals who after being baptized may need to receive the sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Confirmation. THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY: Since Catholic marriage requires a time of preparation, arrangements should begin at least six months before the proposed date of the wedding to allow for the Marriage Preparation Program and Natural Family Planning (NFP). It is required that either the bride or groom must be a registered and practicing member of Immaculate Conception Church. PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK: If you are planning to enter the hospital for surgery, experiencing a prolonged or serious illness, or are very weak due to advancement of age, please call the Parish Rectory to arrange for the sacraments of reconciliation, communion and anointing at home. Communal anointing of the sick is celebrated at mass during the Advent and Lenten seasons. Please notify us of any hospitalization so that we may be of assistance. 2 August 12, 2018 Dear Friends in Christ, This week I am spending a few days in Arlington, VA and will also be visiting friends in Washington, DC. This Wednesday the Church will celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, another feast which celebrates our Patroness. I am planning to make my semiannual visit to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and possibly celebrate a private mass for the intentions of all of you, the faithful of Immaculate Conception. I also intend to light a 7 day candle for all your intentions. I remember mentioning the possibility of a parish pilgrimage to the shrine. As I asked anyone interested to let me know, I heard from five parishioners who showed interest. Soon, I ll draw up interest again and publicize the possible day trip better. For now, as was mentioned a few weeks ago in our bulletin, the Archdiocese has planned a Pilgrimage to the National Shrine on Saturday, October 6 th. The cost for the day is $50.00, which includes transportation and dinner. If interested, you will be joining Cardinal Dolan on this pilgrimage to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The pilgrimage is hosted Nineteenth Sunday In Ordinary Time by the Office of Adult Faith Formation. DeGaris RENEW + REBUILD UPDATE As of August 8 st, Immaculate has received 162 pledges totaling $790, This is 94% of our goal of $839, We are $48, away from our goal! Please remember you have five years to pay off your pledge. You may return your pledge card by way of dropping it into Sunday s collection basket or mailing it to the Campaign Office. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS REGISTRATION FOR THE FOOD PANTRY NEWS For the month of August, the Food Pantry will be YEAR collecting canned fruit. Please leave your Registration is open for the year. Please call donations in the collection bin in the vestibule of the PREP Office to make an appointment. If you are the Church. As always, we thank you for your registering a new student into our program, please bring generosity!!! in a copy of the baptismal certificate if the child was not baptized at Immaculate Conception. In-Going Confirmation Candidates: As you and your families were informed of at the end of the PREP year, you may now start your community service portion (20 hours) toward your Confirmation responsibility. Please call the PREP office to verify that what you are planning on doing toward service hours is acceptable. At present, we are looking for some volunteers to help get our PREP building ready for September. We are also gathering a list of students who would like to work for the Hospitality Committee at either setting up for (on Saturday evening after 5:30 mass) or on Sunday morning (after 9:30 mass) when the Family Mass starts up again in October. Just give the PREP office a call. We will be settling up the parish picnic. All men of the Parish are invited to attend. As always bring a friend. MIDNIGHT RUN SATURDAY AUGUST 18TH The next run is scheduled for Saturday night, August 18. We will prepare for the run on Friday evening at 7 PM in the Sr Casserly Center. Any donations of sack lunches, water, juice boxes, or lightly used back packs will be greatly appreciated. For the run, we will plan to depart from the Church parking lot at 8:45 PM, returning to Stony Point around 1 AM Sunday morning. Summer time runs can be very busy, with many of our homeless brothers and sisters on the streets, rather than seeking shelter indoors. So for anyone who has thought about coming on a run, but not done so, this would be a very good opportunity. It is also a great way to get a head start on any service hours needed for the upcoming school or Catechetical year. Volunteers are needed to hand out grocery lists to entering shoppers and to collect their donations when they exit. Volunteers are needed for one-hour shifts between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Please respond with your preferred time if you are available. H.A.N.D.S. (Healing and Nurturing Distraught Survivors) sponsors a bereavement support group for parents who have lost a child. All Groups meet from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at H.A.N.D.S.
