2 June 3, 2018 Corpus Christi Dear Friends in Christ, Today we celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ or, as the majority of us know this day by, Corpus Christi Sunday. This feast goes back to the 13th century; but it celebrates something far older - the institution of the Sacrament of Holy Communion at the Last Supper. Every year on this feast day, I share the story of the Sisters of Corpus Christi. To remind you again, they are a group of Sisters who live a cloistered life in a monastery located in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx. The Corpus Christi Monastery is the oldest Dominican Monastery in the United States; a 129- year-old branch of the first monastery of nuns founded by St. Dominic de Guzman in Prouilhe, France in The main focus of their vocation is the twenty-fourhour adoration of the Blessed Sacrament that takes place in the Corpus Christi chapel. In that adoration, each nun prays for a number of priests and seminarians serving parishes and studying for the priesthood in the Archdiocese of New York. God bless Sr. Mary of the Sacred Heart for the hours and years of prayers she has been offering for me! The sisters also pray for the people of the Archdiocese and their needs. Today the Monastery celebrates its 129th Anniversary. Behind the cloistered walls, is truly a place of paradise, tranquility and peace. Hunts Point is not the trendiest place to live, but these sisters bring grace and through their imitation of Christ, a loving sense of mercy to that section of the Bronx. One can say they are diamonds in the rough. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, which I have had the honor to celebrate many times for these holy women, is offered daily. They are also the sisters who provide us with the communion hosts we use to celebrate each of our masses here. 3 Church of the Immaculate Conception Page 2 SECOND COLLECTION THIS WEEKEND JUNE 3RD BLACK & INDIAN MISSIONS Fact: The annual Black and Indian Mission Collection is the first national Collection, authorized by the U.B. bishops in This Sunday, our parish will take up the annual Collection for Black and Indian Missions. Your financial contribution helps support the Catholic American Indian communities on reservations, in rural areas and inner cities. The collection also supports African American schools and evangelization programs particularly in the south. With open hearts let us unite ourselves with the love of Christ in supporting the Black and Indian Mission Collection. Please be generous in this week's Second Collection. Father s Day Novena JUNE 17TH On Father s Day, June 17th, we will begin a Novena of Masses for fathers, living and deceased. If you would like to have loved ones remembered during theses Masses, please return the envelope from your monthly packet or pick up one at the entrance to the Church. There are also Father s Day cards for the living available at the entrance to the church. Envelopes are available on the tables in the vestibules. Father's Day Novena envelopes may be dropped in any of our collections prior to Father's Day. The cost is $50 for an arrangement of flowers to be placed near the altar. Please call the rectory to reserve a specific date. Our recently deceased:. We will announce at the Mass on Sunday for a period of one month the intentions of those who are sick and then we will print them for one month. After that we ask that you please contact us to make sure that they are placed on the list again for another cycle. It is the only way we know if someone has recovered. Join us for Irish Heritage Day for tailgating, a great game, fireworks and live music at the Boulder Bar after the game all for $20 per person. BLOOD DRIVE SUNDAY JUNE 10 TH Boy Scout Troop 61 will be hosting their NY Blood Center semi-annual Blood Drive in the Immaculate Conception Parish Auditorium on Sunday, June 10 th from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. An increase in demand for blood is always needed as the summer season begins. The entire donation process takes LESS THAN AN HOUR and a single donation can be used to SAVE MULTIPLE LIVES. Please consider donating. Advanced sign-ups will take place this weekend after mass.
