2 THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SUNDAY COLLECTION BASKET JANUARY 17, 2016 $ 8,350 JANUARY 18, 2015 $ 5,979 January 24, 2016 First Reading: Nehemiah 8:2-4a, 5-6, 8-10 Ezra gathered the people and read to them from the book of the Law of God. He interpreted the law clearly, so that everyone understood what he had read. He then told them to go and rejoice in the Lord. Second Reading: I Corinthians 12:12-30 Paul explains that a body is composed of many different parts, and that each part has its' own purpose and is important. He compares this to the Church, describing how we are one body composed of many members. All members should show concern for each other and understand that we are all vital to the body as a whole. Gospel: Luke 1:1-4, 4:14-21 Luke discusses his decision to write about the events he and the other disciples had witnessed. He begins by telling of Jesus reading a passage from the book of Isaiah, where the anointed one is portrayed. Jesus finished by telling the people that they had seen that passage fulfilled in their hearing. Thank you. FEEDING OUR NEIGHBORS DRIVE BEGINS THIS WEEKEND!!! Sunday, January 24th Sunday, January 31st Timothy Cardinal Dolan is calling on all Catholics to Feed Our Neighbors in New York and respond to the overwhelming need we are facing right here in our local community. During this special week, in January, every Catholic individual and household in our parish and throughout the Archdiocese is invited to join with their friends and neighbors in helping to feed the hungry of our local town as well as Rockland County communities. How can you do this? FEED THE BIG WHITE BOX. Bring non-perishable foods to our Feeding Our Neighbors COLLECTION BOX which will located in our church lobby. Please refer to the insert in last Sunday s bulletin (and lobby bulletin board) for guidelines concerning the most appropriate as well as popular food donations you might wish to consider. Supporting those who are in need comes rather naturally to us, here at Saint Aedan s, because we, as a parish family, sponsor a year-round food pantry. We realize that people need to eat every day, every week, every month of the year. Your donations of food will help provide for the needy individuals and families we support here at our local parish as well as the CSSSR food pantry located in North Rockland. Both pantries will share in the food donations you bring here to church. Program (PREP) will also be involved in this Archdiocesan-wide effort. Christ reminds all of us, young and old, to respond to his message of When you fed or clothed my needy brothers and sisters, that you did unto me There are so many reasons why the Appeal is important, not only to those in need in the Archdiocese, but also to us, in our parish community. Your support of the Appeal: Supports offices, ministries, and programs throughout the archdiocese that nurture and encourage our journey in faith; Helps educate our children in our Catholic schools and religious education programs; Provides for retired priests and religious by giving them the retirement care they deserve after decades of service; Helps to educate our future clergy and prepare them for a life of service; and Helps fund Catholic Charities, which provides loving care to millions of people in our Archdiocese; Finally, it is through the Appeal that we receive a myriad of services and guidance from the Archdiocese. Whether it involves building, finance, questions of law or questions of faith, the Archdiocese of New York has at our service professionals of the highest quality. 50TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR OPENING MASS SAINT AEDAN PARISH NEXT SUNDAY, JANUARY 31ST 12 PM MASS This will be an exciting year here at Saint Aedan s. Our parish will be celebrating its 50th anniversary and our anniversary committee has been hard at work planning a calendar of special events which we will be offering throughout the upcoming year. The committee will soon publish a calendar of special anniversary events just as soon as we finalize them. At this time, we invite you to join us for the opening event of our anniversary year will be a special Mass followed by some light refreshments NEXT Sunday, January 31st. Our Principal Celebrant will be the Most Reverend Bishop Dominick Lagonegro, Episcopal Vicar of Rockland and Orange counties.

We are always very grateful for the ongoing ministries of so many of the men and women and boys and girls of our parish family. Many of you have served for many years as teachers, coaches, sacristans and so many other roles. Right now, as we begin this New Year, we are asking more of you to please consider expressing your love of God and our beautiful parish by joining the ranks of our dedicated Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Ushers, Choir members and Altar Servers. Please let our pastor, Msgr. Nevin, know of your interest in one of these ministries which are all so vital to the ongoing vitality of our parish life. When Msgr Quirk hired me in January, 1979, I never imagined I would serve three pastors as Administrative Assistant at St. Aedan's Church. Truly, this was not just a job, it was a ministry of Love and Joy. Thank you all for your friendship and prayers, all of which have enriched my life and the lives of my family. PILGRIMMAGE OF NEW YORK THE CHURCH S 2016 YEAR OF MERCY The route takes you from the top to the bottom of Manhattan! We will be walking the length of Manhattan, visiting churches in honor of the Year of Mercy! We will visit two churches named after two saints who are examples of God's Mercy: Saints Peter and Paul. Plus we will visit two churches that have designated Holy Doors for this jubilee year: St Frances Xavier Cabrini Shrine and St Patrick's Cathedral. This walk is a total of 13.5 total miles!
