Second Reading: Philippians 2:1-11 Paul urges the converts at Philippi to be united in spirit and ideals, avoiding rivalry and dissension. He ends with the beautiful hymn extolling the humility and sacrifice of Christ. Gospel: Matthew 21:28-32 Jesus speaks words of rebuke to the chief priests and the elders because they are not believing the teachings of John the Baptist. He warns them that tax collectors and prostitutes, who do believe John, will enter the Kingdom of God before them. 3 FAMILY PANCAKE BREAKFAST RESUMES SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1ST AFTER THE 8 AM & 10 AM MASSES Please don t rush home after mass today. Instead, plan on joining together with your fellow parishioners and their families for a delicious breakfast consisting of pancakes, cereal, scrambled eggs and sausage, juice and coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Many thanks to Ray Stormes and his kitchen committee for providing this family breakfast on the 1st Sunday of each month throughout the school year. RENEW AND REBUILD CAMPAIGN BIDDING PROCESS IS UNDERWAY Again, we are now concluding the solicitation phase of our parish Renew & Rebuild Campaign. Next week, we should be in a position to publish a comprehensive report in the bulletin. We are very grateful to all of you who have stepped up to support our parish campaign and me, your pastor, by sending in your gifts and pledges. Because of your financial sacrifices, we are now moving forward with the first of our proposed capital projects, the installation of a new Air Conditioning and Heating system. After this past week, we need no convincing about the need for this capital project. BIRTHRIGHT BABY BOTTLE DRIVE OCTOBER 8TH 22ND Our Parish is hosting a two-week fundraising drive for Birthright of Rockland County starting next weekend. Last year Birthright ministered to over 300 women and their babies with free pre-natal classes, baby care classes, one-on-one support and other help. Please take a Birthright Baby Bottle home, fill it with coins, cash or a check and return it to the church or rectory by October 22. Our generosity will enable Birthright to continue helping women in crisis pregnancies in our community. Precious lives will be saved because of us. Thank you for your traditional generosity 2018 ANNOUNCED MASS BOOK OPEN BEGINNING TUESDAY, OCTOBER 17TH Beginning, Tuesday, October 17th, the 2018 Mass Book will be available for the scheduling of Announced Daily and Sunday Masses. You are invited to come to the Parish Meeting Room between 9AM 3 PM. We are sorry, but we are unable to schedule Masses over the telephone that day and cannot accept requests before the book is opened. Please, NO exceptions. Due to the popular demand for Announced Intentions, we ask for your cooperation by limiting your initial request to SIX MASSES per family only three of which may be on a Saturday evening. The requested stipend is $15 per Mass. Sunday Masses are also open for intentions and the requested stipend is $25 per Mass. In fairness to all, The Sanctuary Lamp is limited to three requests per family. We will also be offering announced intentions for the Body and Blood of Christ. The intention will be for the entire week. If you have any questions, please, call the Rectory at during regular business hours. Sign-up sheet will be in this week s Sunday bulletin. Memorializing the Altar Wine & Hosts for Sunday and weekday masses is also an option. The name of the person being memorialized will be printed in the Sunday bulletin each week just as we do for the Sanctuary Lamp. PARISH ANOINTING MASS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14TH 12 NOON SAVE THE DATE! Be of Service Experience the joy of being an Adult Altar Server. This is a special ministry whereby an adult man or woman assists the priest during funeral Masses. In many cases, it is one of the most beautiful celebrations you ll attend lending a special element of consolation and support for the deceased family. Come to me all who labor and are heavy burdened.and I will give you rest. THE PATRIOTIC ROSARY Will be recited at St. Aedan's in the Church on MONDAY, October 2nd at 7:00P.M. There will be patriotic songs between each decade. Everyone is welcomed! St. Aedan s Ladies Guild annual spring Rummage Sale will be held on Thursday, October 19th in the parish hall. 9AM to 3 PM ONLY! NO NIGHTTIME SALES! Items for sale will include clothing for all members of the family, household items, jewelry, books, records, bric-a brac, toys and clothing in good condition, and those notneeded gifts some of us have hidden away. Donations can be brought to the Hall on Wednesday, October 18, Noon to 3 PM & 7 to 9 PM. ***Volunteers are needed to help set-up and for the day of the rummage sale. 4 PARISH HALLOWEEN COSTUME PARTY FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27th GYM - 7:00 9:00 PM Halloween Party Calling all children in Grades K through 5! The annual children s Halloween Party will be held on Friday night, October 27th from 7-9pm in the gym. Tickets are $8 each and will be sold at the door only. Come in costume and enjoy the DJ, snacks, pizza, games and fun. All children need to be accompanied by an adult. Younger siblings are welcome. The gym doors will open at 7pm and all attendees are asked to pay the $8 entrance fee at the door. Any money raised will be donated to the St Vincent De Paul Society to provide holiday gift cards for families in need. Adult volunteers are needed to help run this event. We are especially looking for people to work in the kitchen during the event and, later on, to help with the clean-up at the end of the party. BIBLE STUDY PROGRAM CONTINUES Beginning Saturday, October 14th and continuing for 9 weeks, Father Ivan Lovric will be hosting a Bible Study Program on the Gospel of St. Matthew entitled "THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES" If you are interested in participating in this program, please see Father Ivan, or you may call him at the Parish rectory. Deacon Jim PARISH RAFFLE DRAWING TICKET SALES - OCTOBER 14TH & 15TH In early August, we mailed out raffle tickets to every registered household in the parish. Tickets are just $10.00 each or 3 for $25.00 and 7 for $ In addition to the ticket sales outside of church, tickets are also available in the parish office from Monday through Friday. You may return your ticket stubs and check / cash in the envelopes provided, by dropping them into the collection basket or else sending them to the parish house. The drawing will take place at the reception in the gym to be held immediately following our parish concert on Friday evening, November 3rd. You do not have to be present in order to win. Many thanks to Cathy Cohn coordinating the raffle tickets at each of our five masses the weekend of October 14th & 15th. SECOND ANNUAL PARISH CONCERT FRIDAY EVENING, NOVEMBER 3RD SAVE THE DATE! Our parish maestro, Matthew Surapine, will, once again be presenting us with a very talented as well as diversified concert program consisting of solos, duets, singing groups and musicians. The concert is free of charge and those who attended last year know that this first class event is an evening not to be missed. Hospitality will be provided in the parish meeting room immediately following the concert. Save the date on your calendars Friday evening, November 3rd at 7 PM in the church. ROCKLAND COUNTY K OF C CHARITY BALL FRIDAY EVENING, OCTOBER 27TH 7 PM AT THE VIEW IN PIERMONT Each year, the Knights work very hard to raise funds which they distribute to a number of charitable causes around the county. This year, our own Archbishop, Cardinal Timothy Dolan will be the honoree.
