2 TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SEPTEMBER 16, 2018 First Reading: Isaiah 50:5-9a Isaiah describes the willingness of the Suffering Servant to submit to the persecution of his enemies. This willingness stems from true faith in God, and the knowledge that the Lord will always be his help. Second Reading: James 2:14-18 James states that if someone is hungry and you wish them well but do not help them, you have done them no good. He compares this to stating your faith, without backing it up with your actions. He reminds us that we must show our faith through our good works. Gospel: Mark 8:27-35 Jesus taught his disciples that as the Messiah, he had to suffer much, be put to death, and rise three days later. Peter began to disagree and Jesus reprimanded him for judging by human standards rather than by God s. He told them that whoever would be willing to lose their life for the sake of Jesus and the gospel, will in fact preserve their life forever. On Sunday, September 30, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., Saint Joseph Regional H.S., Montvale, NJ will be hosting an Open House for prospective students (6 th, 7 th and 8 th grade boys) and their families to gain more information concerning St. Joseph Regional, its programs & the people who make up the SJR community. The Adult Learning Center of Rockland is an organization of retired Seniors who volunteer to teach other Seniors (and over 50s) how to use computers and other 21 st century devices. We are a program of Meals on Wheels. We are now accepting applications for our September/October, 2018 classes. We teach Introduction to Computers, Word Processing, Excel Spreadsheets & Databases, Power Point, Photo Editing using Picasa, Genealogy Finding Your Ancestors, and how to use DNA in your search. More advanced classes will be given if requested. We also teach one-time-only 2-hour classes on How to Use Your Digital Camera, Computer Maintenance, How to use your ipad and iphone, Skype and Facebook. Classes are small - only 8 students per class, with 1 instructor and 2 coaches. Will be having its annual Pavilion Dance on Saturday, September 29th at the GAA fields in Orangeburg. This promises to be a great night with entertainment from the Mike O'Sullivan Band and DJ Irish Mike. Tickets are priced at $25 dollars per person at the door with a cash bar and light food.
