2 November 18, 2018 Dear Friends in Christ, Today our Annual Parish Blood Drive is being held in the Auditorium. If you can donate, please consider stopping by after Mass. The drive is taking place from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Please have available a photo ID and your Social Security Number. Thank you in advance to all parishioners who will donate blood today. Please join us on Thanksgiving morning at 9:00 a.m. as we will gather as a parish family to celebrate Thanksgiving with our Annual Thanksgiving Mass. We will sing, pray and give thanks to God for the blessings we received this year. Thirty-Third Sunday In Ordinary Time The Parish Office will close this Wednesday, November 21 st at 12 Noon and will open on Monday November 26 th at 9:00 a.m. Please call the Parish Office, at , if there is an emergency during the time the office is closed. All family and friends are welcome. Days of Obligation by all families participating in Religious Education (Saturday 5:30pm, Sunday 9:30am or 11:30am). To Know God. Not attending Mass is a mortal sin breaking the third commandment (through our own fault without sufficient reason - sickness etc.) 8 th Grade Confirmation Requirement November 20, 2018 Copy of Baptism and Communion Certificates are due if those sacraments were received in a church other than Immaculate Conception Rosary Please practice praying the Rosary with your children. Our Blessed Mother asks us to pray the Rosary. Instructions on praying the Rosary will be given/sent to all families. No Classes November 22 A blessed Thanksgiving to all. First Grade Nativity Dioramas to be completed and sent to class November 27th and November 29 th. First Grade Family Mass, Sunday, December 2 nd. First graders are to arrive at Church at 9:15 am and will be included in procession into the Church with Fr. Herb. Hospitality to follow in the gym. Dioramas will be displayed for all to see at hospitality. Parents are welcome to take Dioramas THANKSGIVING MORNING MASS 9:00 a.m. NOVEMBER 22 ND Parish Mass of Thanksgiving (the only Mass that day), with music that will help us to place ourselves into the presence of God on this national day of Thanksgiving. Perhaps it is appropriate as we are going through an economic crisis to remind us of all we do have, that we should give thanks for even in the midst of the crisis that so many of us and our families are facing. We do encourage you to be with us that day. We would like to continue the tradition we started four years ago of bringing an item of food from your own dinner table to be blessed at the Mass. We will join together as God's family in church and then have the item blessed and then go to our own family's celebration. We will mention this again in the coming weeks. There is a beautiful blessing in the "Book of Blessing's that we use in our ceremony. FOOD PANTRY NEWS FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER For the month of November the food pantry will be collecting cake mixes and frostings, corn muffin mixes, canned sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce. These items can be left in the bin in the vestibule of the Church. The food pantry will be closed Thanksgiving week. We are so grateful for your generosity! Through your goodness, we will be able to provide a delicious, bountiful Thanksgiving to many, many families!

3 Church of the Immaculate Conception Page 2 CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE Immaculate Conception is once again sponsoring the Christmas Giving Tree to help needy families and individuals in our area. The Christmas Tree will be displayed with the tags in the vestibule of the Church. Return the gift (s) and place it under The Giving Tree no later than Monday, December 17 th. This gives us sufficient time to get the gifts to the people before Christmas. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Please bring any gift cards to the Rectory. Thank you. (Please attach the original tags from the tree onto the gift). It is most helpful. Our tree will be displayed before Advent. FLOWER MEMORIALS Flower memorials are available for anyone desiring to memorialize a loved one. The cost is $50 for an arrangement of flowers to be placed near the altar. Please call the rectory to reserve a specific date. CHRISTMAS FLOWERS You will notice in your envelope sets that you receive for Advent and the Christmas season that there is an envelope marked Christmas Flowers, we do depend on your generosity to help us decorate the church in a beautiful way. You may drop them in any collection between now and Christmas. CHRISTMAS CAROLING SUNDAY DECEMBER 9TH Please mark your calendar for our annual Christmas Caroling, December 9 th at 2pm, meet in front of the church. If you know someone who could use some cheering up please let us know and we will add them to our list by calling the rectory. Start a new tradition with your family and come out with us to share some joy with our friends who are shut in. Call Mandy Stewart with any questions at Hope to see you all there. We will announce at the Mass on Sunday for a period of one month the intentions of those who are sick and then we will print them for one month. After that we ask that you please contact us to make sure that they are placed on the list again for another cycle. It is the only way we know if someone has recovered. Page 3 YOUTH CHRISTMAS PLAY REHEARSAL MONDAY - NOVEMBER 26 th at 5:30 7 PM IN THE CHURCH The cast is set and the next rehearsal will be on Monday November 26 from 5:30-7:00 PM in the church. The entire cast will not be needed at this rehearsal. Therefore, we are giving the soldiers, sheep and angels the night off. However, the Angel Gabriel, the shepherd's angel and the star angel will be needed at this practice. Of course the narrator, readers and the rest of the cast are expected to attend. Please check your and the bulletin for updates. Also please join Mrs. Marino for choir practice on Thursdays from 6:15 to 7 PM in the church. The Christmas Songs for the play will be included in choir practice. For additional information please contact Cookie McGillicuddy at or cookiemcgill@gmail.com Thank you Cookie McGillicuddy and Linda Connolly SEMI-ANNUAL BLOOD DRIVE SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 18 TH Boy Scout Troop 61 will be hosting their NY Blood center-semi Annual Blood Drive in the Immaculate Conception Parish Auditorium on Sunday,, November 18, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. An increase in demand for blood is always needed as the Holiday Season begins. Typically, at this time of year, the NY Blood Center has approximately 10,000 units on hand. Unfortunately, they recently reported only 5,900 units of life saving blood. The entire donation process takes LESS THAN AN HOUR and a single donation can be used to SAVE MULTIPLE lives. Advanced sign-ups will take place after masses on the weekend of November 10 th 11 th after mass. Please consider donating on November 18 th. Walkins are always welcome. MIDNIGHT RUN CHRISTMAS RUN Our next run is a breakfast scheduled for Saturday, December 22. For the breakfast, we will plan to depart from the Church parking lot at 7 AM. Please mark your calendar, this run is on a Saturday morning, not the usual Sunday morning. A special request is out to Santa for him and his helpers to join us. We will prepare for the run on Friday evening, December 21 at 7 PM in the Sister Casserly Center. Donations of sack lunches will be greatly appreciated. Men s pants are also needed. Anyone interested in helping with the breakfast preparation cooking and packing or anyone wanting additional information about the run can contact Deacon John or Jessica Sadowski at NEWS OF INTEREST The Rockland Chapter of the Knight of Columbus will be having the annual Blessing of the Creche. It will take place on Saturday, November 24 th at 12:00 o clock by the Lord and Taylor Court of the Palisades Mall. All are welcome, there will be caroling led by the Albertus Magnus coral group to set the Christmas spirit. Rachel Ministry offers help for those who have lost a baby at birth or prior to birth, held at the Marian Shrine in the Cafeteria building at 7:00 p.m. on November 19 th.
