2 TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SEPTEMBER 18, 2016 First Reading: Amos 8:4-7 The prophet Amos expressed disgust over people who take advantage of the poor. He describes businessmen scheming to cheat the poor, then declares that God will "never forget the things they have done." Second Reading: 1 Timothy 2:1-8 Paul urges the Christians to pray for all people, especially those in authority. Paul even asked them to pray for the kings who denounced Christ's teachings, because God wants all people to be saved through Jesus. Gospel: Luke 16:1-13 Jesus tells a story about a servant who tries to cheat his employer. The owner is impressed because he would do the same thing himself. Jesus then describes the importance of being trustworthy in small matters, as well as in greater ones. He then states that no one can serve two masters faithfully, so people cannot give themselves completely to both God and money. 3 CATECHETICAL SUNDAY & FAMILY MASS 50TH ANNIVERSARY JOURNAL This Sunday, at our 10 AM family mass, we will recognize all of our wonderful catechists who exercise the Ministry of Catholic Religious Education with all of our public school boys and girls. We are very grateful for their dedicated and loving efforts and the many sacrifices they make in order to fulfill this year-long commitment. Following the Mass, they will enjoy breakfast over in the parish hall. Go forth and preach the Gospel to all nations! The printed souvenir photo journal is a big part of our parish 50th anniversary observance. It will contain a detailed history of our parish; memorable photos and many pages of important advertizing, etc. We need volunteer workers to help us reach out to potential advertisers and sponsors. Wherever you do business with that s where we need you to visit so potential advertisers are greeted by a familiar face! Also We need to borrow some of your personal photos/memorabilia of significant parish events over the past 50 years. We will scan and give them back to you. Nevin this week ( ) Thank you..parish RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PARISH BIBLE STUDY PROGRAM Our Bible Study program has now resumed and will continue for 24 weeks. Father Palatucci will be hosting this program which focuses on the Gospel of St. Matthew and the theme is "THE KING AND HIS KINGDOM" If you are interested in participating in this program, please see Father John, or you may call him at the Parish rectory. For those who have already signed up the workbooks for this series have arrived. Please contact Father about the cost for each book. PARISH 50TH ANNIVERSARY ACTIVITIES Please keep sending in your responses for our 50th Anniversary activities. This is a very important parish family event and a time when we would like everyone to come together to celebrate a really important event in the history of our parish. A lot of work has been done by a lot of people to help ensure the success of our 50th celebration so we would really appreciate your support. What can you do? How can you get involved? ***Reserve some seats at the Gala Dinner Dance at the Hilton - October 21st. ***Help us to solicit sponsors and advertisers for our parish journal. (The restaurants you eat in, the stores you shop in, the professional people you know.) Take out an ad for yourself, your family or in memory of someone special. ***Buy some tickets for our exciting anniversary raffle. ***Plan on attending our free anniversary concert on Friday evening, November 4th at 7:00P.M. PROGRAM (PREP) LATE REGISTRATION LAST CALL Religious Education Classes (PREP) have now resumed. Afternoon classes are 4:15-5:45 and evening classes are 7:00-8:30. Those whose registration was late will be notified when they will be able to start. Any family not yet registered is urged to do so this week. The PREP Office is open Monday-Thursday to accept registration. Forms may also be dropped off in the Rectory. Registration cannot be accepted during class time. ST. AEDEN S CANCER SUPPORT GROUP For the past couple of months, we at St. Aedan s have had a cancer support group meeting in our parish. The group is known as the Our Lady of Peace Cancer Support Group. Presently, the group meets once a month in our parish meeting room. Anyone who is interested in joining this group, here at St. Aedan s, is asked to contact Margie at Unlike other groups, our parish group will be open to anyone affected by this disease, including family members and friends. Thank you for your interest and God Bless You! PARISH CONCERT DATE RESCHEDULED Friday evening, November 4th 7 9 P.M. Originally scheduled for September 24th, the 50th Anniversary Concert date has been re-scheduled for Friday evening, November 4th at 7PM. Scheduling the concert for a Saturday has been the single biggest stumbling block in recruiting commitments from many of the individuals and groups we have been reaching out to. We sincerely wish this concert to be one of the highlights of our 50th Anniversary year. In our view, it is more important to re-schedule the date and provide a first class concert than stick with the original date and struggle along with a potentially disappointing program. Please note the re-scheduled date and time your personal calendars Friday, November 4th, 7-9 PM.

4 N. A. M. I. OF ROCKLAND (National Alliance on Mental Illness) will be offering once again their 12 week program on mental illness for families who have a loved one with a psychiatric illness.
