We, too, must trust in the Lord, so like Abram, our families might prosper. Second Reading: Hebrews 11:8, 11-12, By faith Abraham and Sarah were blessed with Isaac, and through him, many descendants because they trusted in God s promise and believed in what they could not see. We see that faith, trust and prayer bring forth God s miracles in our lives. Gospel: Luke 2:22-40 Jesus was brought to Jerusalem to be consecrated according to the law of Moses. A man named Simeon had learned he would not die until he had seen God s anointed. Upon seeing Jesus, he immediately declared he had witnessed the glory of your people of Israel. The prophetess Anna also gave thanks and spoke of Jesus to all who would listen. Both recognized the power of Jesus, although he was still an infant. St. Thomas Aquinas wrote those words in a hymn to express our proper attitude toward Jesus in the Eucharist. Come spend some time in worship of this great gift and mystery. The Blessed Sacrament will be displayed for Nocturnal Eucharistic Adoration this month, here at St. Aedan s on Friday, January 5th between 8 PM - 11PM. PARISH RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 2nd. We wish you and your family a Happy New Year. 4 FEAST OF THE SOLEMNITY OF MARY MONDAY, JANUARY 1ST ANNUAL MARCH FOR LIFE IN D. C. FRIDAY, JANUARY 19TH The Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God is a feast day of the Blessed Virgin Mary under the aspect of her motherhood of Jesus Christ, whom Christians see as the Lord, Son of God. THIS YEAR, IT IS NOT A HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION. OUR FEAST DAY MASSES WILL BE AT MASSES 9 AM &. The parish office will be closed New Year s Day. In case of an emergency please call Join your neighbors on the bus trip to Washington, D.C., for the world s largest annual prolife demonstration. The bus will leave from St. Francis of Assisi in West Nyack at 6 am and return at 11 pm. $30 adults; $15 students. LOVE SAVES LIVES is the theme of this year s march. Come put these words into action as we march from the Washington Monument to the Capitol Building in the defense of the unborn and to help rebuild a culture of life in America. CHRISTMAS SEASON OF THE CHURCH The Catholic Church as well as all Christian churches, does not follow the Christmas (Holiday) shopping calendar. Just as our local retail outlets begin advertising their after Christmas sales, we Christians should just be getting started with our celebration of the true (religious) meaning of Christmas. It s not the tree or the lights or the parties or the gifts. Our religious celebration centers around the Nativity scene or crèche displayed in all of our churches, many of our homes and on some of our front lawns and town properties. Our holy Christmas season begins on December 25th with the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of Mary, Savior of the world. The season continues, uninterrupted, through the celebration of the Baptism of the Lord on January 8th. Please continue to observe and to celebrate Christmas. Wish each other a Happy or Merry or Blessed Christmas all throughout the Christmas season. By all means, please keep the outdoor displays up and lighted. If at all possible, keep the trees up in the house and, most importantly, keep the Nativity sets or crèches prominently displayed in your homes right up until the last day. If we Christians fail to focus our attention and our joyous celebration on the birth of Christ, who will keep the true meaning of Christmas alive today and for generations to come?
