He emphasizes that through good deeds and pure conduct, our faith in God is proven to him. SEPTEMBER 2, 2018 First Reading: Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 6-8 Moses tells the people to always observe the statutes God has given them, without adding or subtracting from these laws. He reminds them that the law is just, and that any nation who heard their statutes would consider them a wise nation. Gospel: Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, The Pharisees observed some of Jesus disciples eating without first purifying their hands and ask the disciples why they are going against their ancestor s traditions. Jesus responds that nothing from the outside can make a person impure. The only true evil, acts such as fornication, murder, and greed among others, come from within and make a person impure.

4 LABOR DAY - AN AMERICAN HOLIDAY Labor Day is a United States federal holiday which is observed on the first Monday in September. This year it happens to fall on September 3rd. The first Labor Day was observed on August 26, 1878, in Boston, by the Central Labor Union of New York, the nation s first integrated major trade union. It became a federal holiday in 1894, when, following the deaths of a number of workers at the hands of the U.S. military and U.S. Marshalls during the Pullman Strike, President Grover Cleveland put reconciliation with the labor movement as a top political priority. By unanimous vote, Congress passed a law making the day a national holiday some six days after the workers deaths. Traditionally, Labor Day is celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic end of summer. In the bygone years of high society, Labor Day was considered the last day of the year when it was fashionable for women to wear white. The day is often regarded as a day of rest and barbeques and parties. In U. S. sports, Labor Day marks the beginning of the NFL and college football seasons. For many school age boys and girls, Labor Day also marks the last day of freedom before returning to school. NOCTURNAL ADORATION ST. AEDAN S Tantum Ergo Sacramentum, veneremur cernui (On bended knee, let us worship so great a Sacrament). St. Thomas Aquinas wrote those words in a hymn to express our proper attitude toward Jesus in the Eucharist. Come spend some time in worship of this great gift and mystery. Joseph from St. Mary's Church in Haverstraw will be leading us in a prayer service for the annual Remembering the Victims of Abortion service. 5 The Religious Education Office will RE- OPEN Tuesday, 9/4. Registration Information RETURNING FAMILIES must use link sent to them by Parish Giving to register. If you cannot find your link you call Parish Giving at for help. NEW FAMILIES ONLY please use this link to begin registration. After you enter information a SECOND link will be sent to you to place your child into a grade. Must also submit copy of child's Baptismal Certificate (and if child is grade 2-8 attendance records from previous parish.) All families must first be registered members of St. Aedan's parish. Please contact the Rectory at to do so. ANYONE WHO HAS DIFFICULTY WITH THIS, PLEASE CALL PARISH GIVING OFFICE AT FOR HELP. ALL families must also submit Volunteer Form (1 per family) and Student Information Form (separate form for each child) Forms can be picked up and dropped off in the Rectory. Registration is not complete unless families have enrolled through their Parish Giving link and have returned the necessary forms. Our assigned parish goal this year is $85, To date, we have received a total of $60, in pledges and gifts from 239 households and individuals. That s 71% of our goal to date. Because this special mass is traditionally hosted by the Vicar/Dean, this year it will again be held right here at Saint Aedan s Church. During the Mass, we will pray aloud for all of our Rockland family members and friends who perished during the Attack on America, September 11, We will also pray for God s continued love and protection upon all those they left behind on that terrible day. Uniformed responders, both retired and still on the job, are invited to attend in uniform. Others may wish to wear garments appropriate to one of the uniformed services. 6 CANCER SUPPORT GROUP HERE AT ST. AEDAN S Unlike other groups, our parish group will be open to anyone affected by this disease, including family members and friends. Thank you for your interest and God Bless You! We at St. Aedan s have formed a cancer support group which is known as Our Lady Queen of Peace Cancer Support Group. At present, the group will meet once a month. More frequent meetings may be scheduled in the future if the members determine it would be desirable. The group will meet on the second Tuesday of each month. The meetings will start in September and the first one will be on September 11th at 7:00P.M. in the parish house (rectory).
