2 FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER APRIL 29, 2018 First Reading: Acts 9:26-31 Paul the Apostle came to Jerusalem, where the other disciples were afraid of him. Then they learned that the Lord had spoken to Paul and he had preached openly in Damascus. When they learned that someone wanted to kill him, they protected him because they fully believed he had converted. Second Reading: I John 3:18-24 John clearly states that we must love one another. All people who believe in Jesus Christ can show their faith only through their actions. If people believe in Jesus and love one another as he commanded us, they prove that they are true believers in Christ. Gospel: John 15:1-8 Jesus compares himself to a vine, and compares his father to the vine-grower. He explains how God prunes the barren branches so that the rest might yield more fruit. He reminds them that apart from himself, his followers could not bear fruit. The day will begin with a 10:00 AM Mass to be held at St. Catharine s. Following the Mass, we will enjoy a delicious breakfast at the 76 House in Tappan for just $25 a person. Reservation forms can be picked up at the rectory. Deadline for reservations is May 11th. Please plan to join us on Saturday, May 19th, and help us to celebrate together as a community of faith. Please call the Parish Office at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP St. Aedan's Church hosts a cancer support group (Our Lady Queen of Peace csg) every second (2nd) Tuesday of each month (excluding inclement weather). Our facilitator is Margie and can be reached at any time by phone at , text or (sjems7@gmail.com). We meet at 7pm in the parish meeting room. This horrific disease affects more than the cancer warrior - it affects all those around them. The group is opened to victims, survivors, family members, friends or anyone who is hurting because of this dreadful disease PROPAGATION OF THE FAITH WEEKEND MISSIONARIES OF JESUS The Missionaries of Jesus (MJ) is an international and multicultural religious missionary community. It was founded in the Philippines on 12 June 2002 by a group of forty-one men One of the MJ priorities is to work and live with the indigenous people: 1) Relief and health care for the indigenous people in the Diocese of Lae in Papua New Guinea. 2) Education Work (Literacy Program) among the indigenous people in the mountains of the Prelature of Digos, Philippines. 3) Pastoral work (Catechetical Formation) among the catechists in the Parish of Marahan in Davao, Philippines and also in the Parish of San Marcos in the Prelature of Petén, Guatemala. Father Melanio Vuiya, MJ will be speaking at all masses next weekend on behalf of the Propagation of the Faith and the work his own order is doing around the world.

5 MOTHER S DAY NOVENA OF MASSES WEEK OF MAY 13 TH Religious Mother s Day cards and envelopes are available in the Church lobby for remembrance in a special Novena of Masses to be offered beginning Monday, May 14 th at the 9AM Mass. You may return the intention envelopes by dropping them in the collection baskets at mass or else send them to the rectory Thank you. The envelopes, containing the names of our loved ones, will remain on the altar throughout May. PLEASE BE REGISTERED WITH US & TELL US ABOUT ADDRESS CHANGES Please notify the Rectory of any change of address. Your envelopes or any letters from the Parish will not get forwarded. JOSEPH S REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE MAY 2ND On Wednesday, May 2nd, from 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Saint Joseph Regional H.S., Montvale, NJ will be hosting an Open House for prospective students (6th, 7th & 8th grade boys) and their families to gain more information concerning St. Joseph Regional, its programs & the people who make up the SJR community. THE RACHEL MINISTRY FOR THOSE TROUBLED BY ABORTION MARIAN SHRINE IN HAVERSTRAW Every 20 seconds an unborn child is aborted in the United States. In the 30 years since Roe vs. Wade, the tragic U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion on demand, the death toll has reached over 55 million. But the statistics do not document the other casualties: the mothers, fathers, grandparents and friends who are emotionally and spiritually affected. The Rachel ministry is a CONFIDENTIAL ministry for those scarred by abortion, miscarriage or stillbirth. Our parishioners can make an appointment to meet with a professional counselor in Rockland County or anyplace in the archdiocese for up to six meetings with a modest $10 co-pay per session. Tell Father that you want to talk with a counselor. He will contact the appointment desk on your behalf and then you can call and arrange your first visit. CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR EIGHTH GRADE CONFIRMATION CLASS OF 2018 Our congratulations and prayerful best wishes to all of our parish eighth graders who received the Sacrament of Confirmation last Saturday on what was one of the most beautiful spring days we ve had this year. Our confirming Bishop was Bishop Dominick Lagonegro, Episcopal Vicar of Orange and Rockland Counties. Many thanks to Pat Shannon and the members of the Ladies Guild for providing refreshments in our gym immediately following each of our two Confirmation Masses. Thanks, also to Matthew Surapine and our Ministers of Music and our ushers and altar servers who added their special ministries to our day.
