2 November 25, 2018 Dear Friends in Christ, Today is the last Sunday of the liturgical year in which the church celebrates the Solemnity of Christ the King. This Holy Day of Christ the King expresses the allembracing authority of Christ as King and Lord of the Universe. This feast helps us to look towards our future, and our ultimate future is when Jesus will return in glory for the final judgment each of us will one day receive. This Solemnity is a newer feast in the Catholic Church. The feast of Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe was instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925 and is observed on the Last Sunday of the liturgical year as it helps us to meditate on Christ the King and Lord and also on the Second and Final Coming of Christ, which we will meditate on next month in the Season of Advent. This bulletin, because of the Thanksgiving Holiday schedule, was prepared a week before Thanksgiving. I have no numbers, but I do want to thank you all for what The Solemnity of Christ The King I know was a tremendous outpouring of generosity once again with donations to our Food Pantry and its Thanksgiving drive to provide beautiful meals for the less fortunate this Thanksgiving. Thank you as well to all of you who donated blood in last Sunday s blood drive! I will inform you all in next weekends bulletin about the exact number for each activity just mentioned. Next Sunday, we will have our monthly Family Mass at 9:30 am followed by Hospitality in the school gym. Our first graders will be hosting the mass. Last months Family Mass brought a very large crowd together. I pray we see that amazing turnout again. May Christ, the King, continue to bless us all in our faithful discipleship, -Fr. Herbert T. First Grade Nativity Dioramas to be completed and sent to class November 27th and November 29 th. First Grade Family Mass, Sunday, December 2 nd. First graders are to arrive at Church at 9:15 am and will be included in procession into the Church with Fr. Herb. Hospitality to follow in the gym. Dioramas will be displayed for all to see at First Reconciliation will be January 19, 2019 (Saturday) at 11:00 am in the Church. Please start to reinforce the following prayers: Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be and the Act of Contrition. We are one family caring for each other at Immaculate Conception. FOOD PANTRY NEWS FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER For the month of November the food pantry will be collecting cake mixes and frostings, corn muffin mixes, canned sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce. These items can be left in the bin in the vestibule of the Church. We are so grateful for your generosity!

3 Church of the Immaculate Conception Page 2 YOUTH CHRISTMAS PLAY REHEARSAL MONDAY - NOVEMBER 26 th AT 5:30 7 PM IN THE CHURCH The cast is set and the next rehearsal will be on Monday November 26 from 5:30-7:00 PM in the church. The entire cast will not be needed at this rehearsal. Therefore, we are giving the soldiers, sheep and angels the night off. However, the Angel Gabriel, the shepherd's angel and the star angel will be needed at this practice. Of course the narrator, readers and the rest of the cast are expected to attend. Please check your and the bulletin for updates. Also please join Mrs. Marino for choir practice on Thursdays from 6:15 to 7 PM in the church. The Christmas Songs for the play will be included in choir practice. If you know someone who could use some cheering up please let us know and we will add them to our list by calling the rectory. CHRISTMAS FLOWERS You will notice in your envelope sets that you receive for Advent and the Christmas season that there is an envelope marked Christmas Flowers, we do depend on your generosity to help us decorate the church in a beautiful way. You may drop them in any collection between now and Christmas. REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS All those who are ill at home, in the hospital and in nursing homes, especially: Jack O Brien, Billy Keenan, Ed Hanus, Michael Orapello, Ruth Ann Melia, Rochelle Untener, and Jaxon Waller. Our recently deceased:. We will announce at the Mass on Sunday for a period of one month the intentions of those who are sick and then we will print them for one month. After that we ask that you please contact us to make sure that they are placed on the list again for another cycle. It is the only way we know if someone has recovered. Page 3 The flowers this week are In Loving Memory of Richard Mazzaferro Donated by The Family RETIRED RELIGIOUS SECOND COLLECTION DECEMBER 9, 2018 It s that special time of the year when we pause to give thanks to the Lord for the religious who have served and continue to serve the Church with much dedication and great distinctions. Sunday December 9, 2018 our parishes are conducting the annual collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious that benefits some 34,000 senior sisters, brothers, and religious order priests. As we reflect on the service of our women and men religious, we recall the words of Jesus in John s Gospel: Whoever serves we must follow me, and where I am, there also will be servant be: (John 12:26) Through their prayer and works, religious can be found wherever Jesus is found not just in our parishes, schools, and hospitals, but also in service to the poor, the lonely and the oppressed. Please be generous in this second collection. MIDNIGHT RUN CHRISTMAS RUN Our next run is a breakfast scheduled for Saturday, December 22. For the breakfast, we will plan to depart from the Church parking lot at 7 AM. Please mark your calendar, this run is on a Saturday morning, not the usual Sunday morning. A special request is out to Santa for him and his helpers to join us. We will prepare for the run on Friday evening, December 21 at 7 PM in the Sister Casserly Center. Donations of sack lunches will be greatly appreciated. Men s pants are also needed. Anyone interested in helping with the breakfast preparation cooking and packing or anyone wanting additional information about the run can contact Deacon John or Jessica Sadowski at ADVENT RECONCILLATION MONDAY, DECEMBER 17TH On Monday, December 17 th, we will celebrate our Advent Reconciliation Monday. The time for Confession will be here from 4:00 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. and we do hope you will take advantage of the extra hours that are being available for the Sacrament and please pray that many will make themselves avail for the beautiful preparation for Christmas. CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE Immaculate Conception is once again sponsoring the Christmas Giving Tree to help needy families and individuals in our area. The Christmas Tree will be displayed with the tags in the vestibule of the Church. Return the gift (s) and place it under The Giving Tree no later than Monday, December 17 th. This gives us sufficient time to get the gifts to the people before Christmas. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Please bring any gift cards to the Rectory. Thank you. (Please attach the original tags from the tree onto the gift). It is most helpful. Our tree will be displayed before Advent. NEWS OF INTEREST Christmas Craft Show On Sunday, December 2 nd, Saint Joseph Regional High School, Montvale, NJ will be hosting its annual Christmas Craft Show from 10 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., showcasing the talents of over 120 juried crafts people and fine artists. There will be NO STROLLERS PERMITTED SACRIFICIAL GIVING Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday the Bulletin had to be sent early. The Collection will be reported in next week s Bulletin. Thank You.
