LAETARE (Rejoice) SUNDAY The fourth, or middle, Sunday of Lent, derives its name from the first words of the Introit at Mass. Laetare Jerusalem Rejoice, O Jerusalem. On this day, the Church celebrates arriving at the middle of our Lenten journey and our joyful anticipation of Easter which is now appearing on our spiritual horizon. Laetare or Rejoice Sunday is, therefore, a time to employ the use of some flowers for the day and the priest and deacon will wear rose colored vestments during the mass in order to further express our sense of joy. Were you there when they crucified my Lord? Were you there when they nailed Him to a tree? Were you there when they laid him in a tomb? Please try and make this traditional and very beautiful form of worship a part of your Lenten practice. +MASS OF CHRISM+ SAINT PATRICK S CATHEDRAL TUESDAY, APRIL 11TH - 4:00 PM COUNTY-WIDE COACH BUS AVAILABLE This special Mass, a tradition which goes all the way back to the 5th century of our church, is only celebrated once a year, during Holy Week. The Mass, which manifests the unity of the priests with their bishop, will be celebrated by our Cardinal Archbishop, Timothy Michael Dolan, who will be joined by his Auxiliary Bishops and hundreds of our parish and religious order priests and deacons. During the Mass, the archbishop will also bless three sacred oils, the oil of catechumens, oil of the sick and holy chrism. These oils will be used in the administration of the sacraments throughout the entire Archdiocese during the upcoming year. The faithful of our Rockland parishes are urged to make attendance at this very beautiful and unique Mass of Chrism (reserved seating) a special part of their Lenten observance. For your convenience, the Rockland Deanery is sponsoring a coach bus which will be departing from the St. Francis of Assisi parking lot, Parrot Road, West Nyack, at 1 p.m. that day. 4 THE HOLY SEASON OF LENT ALMSGIVING AND MITE BOXES It s not too late to consider incorporating the Mite Box into your Lenten Almsgiving efforts. Almsgiving is an important part of our Lenten observance. All of the parishes in our county have been asked to join together in support of the charitable efforts of Catholic Charities Community Services of Rockland. When you are ready, please bring the box to church with you and deposit it into the receptacle located in the lobby of the church. Whatsoever you do for one of these least ones, that you do unto me. PASTA WITH THE PARISH CONTINUES ALL FRIDAY EVENINGS DURING LENT PLEASE COME OUT AND JOIN US! We still have two more pasta Fridays in Lent so it s not too late to come out and join your fellow parishioners for a delicious meatless pasta dinner served right here in our gym. The dinners, served from 6:00 7:00 p.m., feature salad, pasta, rolls & butter, soft drink, coffee/tea and dessert. In order to help keep the cost of this event affordable for everyone, we are asking the same amount we do for our monthly pancake breakfasts - $3.00 seniors, $4.00 singles and just $8.00 families with young children. Following dinner, we encourage to join us in the church for our traditional Stations of the Cross beginning at 7:30 p.m. So, please allow us to care for both body and soul this Lent by participating in this parish family meal followed by the Stations of the Cross.
