2 December 2, 2018 Dear Friends in Christ, Today we begin the Season of Advent. As we gather these next four Sundays, let us be mindful of the Gift that awaits us on Christmas Day. As each candle is lit on our parish Advent Wreath, may the wreath and its light be a sign to us of Christ s promise to bring us salvation. We welcome our first graders as our hosts of our Family Mass today at 9:30. They will process in with myself and the ministers. Their beautiful Dioramas they have constructed will be on display in the gym. Please join us after the 9:30 mass for our monthly hospitality where we will all enjoy a delicious hot breakfast. First Sunday of Advent Our annual Christmas Giving Tree program has begun! Please visit the trees either in the narthex of the church or in the Sacred Heart Chapel to obtain a tag. If no tags are left, please check again next Sunday. Please refer to the insert in the bulletin today. It is my Annual report to you as parishioners on the State of the Parish. I thank all of you for your support and your continuing generosity that continues to make our parish strong spiritually and financially. May the Light of Advent Wreath prepare us for the Light of the World, -Fr. Herbert T. DeGaris IMMACULATE CONCEPTION SCHOOL OF RELIGION.NEWS Rosary Please practice praying the Rosary with your children. Our Blessed Mother asks us to pray the Rosary. Instructions on praying the Rosary were given to all families and each child received their own rosary blessed by Fr. Herb. Advent Reconciliation for students will be held during class time on December 11th and 13 th in the Church. Reconciliation (Confession) for parents is available every Saturday from 4 pm until 5 pm in the Church. God, Our Father, loves us more than we can ever imagine. When we go Confession, He hears us when we ask for forgiveness of our sins. And, so when our sins are absolved, our relationship with Our Loving Father and The Church is reconciled and we receive His Mercy and Healing Grace. How beautiful is this Sacrament which is so readily available to you. Christmas Pageant, December 16, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the Church. This is the Family Program Catechesis). Religious Education families will be either participating or coming to the Pageant. Refreshments to follow in the gym. on will be displayed. You are welcome to take centerpieces home as a keepsake. If you know someone who could use some cheering up please let us know and we will add them to our list by calling the rectory. 3 Church of the Immaculate Conception Page 2 ADVENT RECONCILLATION MONDAY, DECEMBER 17TH On Monday, December 17 th, we will celebrate our Advent Reconciliation Monday. The time for Confession will be here from 4:00 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. and we do hope you will take advantage of the extra hours that are being available for the Sacrament and please pray that many will make themselves avail for the beautiful preparation for Christmas. Men s Club Christmas Party Friday, December 21 st The Men s Club Christmas Party will be held on Friday, December 21 st at Lynch s Restaurant starting at 8:00 p.m. There will be a choice of 4 dinners and a 3 hour open bar. Cost will be $40 per person. All men of the parish are welcome to attend. CHRISTMAS FLOWERS Your generosity to this year s Christmas Flowers Collection will allow our church to once again look beautiful and dignify the season of Christmas. If you have not done so, please drop your flower offering envelope in today s or next Sunday s collection. Thank you. THANK YOU On behalf of the New York Blood Center, Fr. DeGaris and Boy Scout Troop 61, we would like to thank everyone who supported our blood drive last weekend and helped make it a success. We were able to collect 37 units of blood. Be very proud, for a single unit can save many loves. Thank You for your continued generosity! Special thanks goes to Boy Scout Troop 61 for their hard work, dedications and Support! THANK YOU FROM OUR FOOD PANTRY We will be distributing Christmas bags on Friday, December 21 st for that distribution we are still collecting turkeys or roasting chickens, canned sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, corn muffin mixes and cake mixes and frostings. Please bring all meat to the rectory any weekday between 9:00 and 5:00 or to the food pantry on Fridays from 2:00 6:00. All other food items can be left in the bin in the vestibule of the church. We are so grateful for your outpouring of love and generosity! REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS All those who are ill at home, in the hospital and in nursing homes, especially: Jack O Brien, Billy Keenan, Ed Hanus, Michael Orapello, Ruth Ann Melia, Rochelle Untener, and Jaxon Waller. Our recently deceased:. Patricia Montagne Lopez. We will announce at the Mass on Sunday for a period of one month the intentions of those who are sick and then we will print them for one month. After that we ask that you please contact us to make sure that they are placed on the list again for another cycle. It is the only way we know if someone has recovered. Page 3 RETIRED RELIGIOUS SECOND COLLECTION DECEMBER 9, 2018 It s that special time of the year when we pause to give thanks to the Lord for the religious who have served and continue to serve the Church with much dedication and great distinctions. Sunday December 9, 2018 our parishes are conducting the annual collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious that benefits some 34,000 senior sisters, brothers, and religious order priests. As we reflect on the service of our women and men religious, we recall the words of Jesus in John s Gospel: Whoever serves we must follow me, and where I am, there also will be servant be: (John 12:26) Through their prayer and works, religious can be found wherever Jesus is found not just in our parishes, schools, and hospitals, but also in service to the poor, the lonely and the oppressed. Please be generous in this second collection. YOUTH CHRISTMAS PLAY REHEARSAL MONDAY - DECEMBER 3 RD 5:30-7 PM IN THE CHURCH WEDNESDAY - DECEMBER 5 th 5:30-7 PM IN THE CHURCH The next rehearsals for the ENTIRE CAST AND CHOIR will be on Monday December 3 and Wednesday December 5 from 5:30-7:00 PM in the church. Please check your and the bulletin for updates. Also please join Mrs. Marino for choir practice on Thursdays from 6:15 to 7 PM in the church. The Christmas Songs for the play will be included in choir practice. A list of songs will be available at rehearsals. For the breakfast, we will plan to depart from the Church parking lot at 7 AM. Please mark your calendar, this run is on a Saturday morning, not the usual Sunday morning. A special request is out to Santa for him and his helpers to join us. We will prepare for the run on Friday evening, December 21 at 7 PM in the Sister Casserly Center. Donations of sack lunches will be greatly appreciated. Men s pants are also needed. Anyone interested in helping with the breakfast preparation cooking and packing or anyone wanting additional information about the run can contact Deacon John or Jessica Sadowski at CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE Immaculate Conception is once again sponsoring the Christmas Giving Tree to help needy families and individuals in our area. The Christmas Tree will be displayed with the tags in the vestibule of the Church. Return the gift (s) and place it under The Giving Tree no later than Monday, December 17 th. This gives us sufficient time to get the gifts to the people before Christmas. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Please bring any gift cards to the Rectory. Thank you. NEWS OF INTEREST Blessing of the Nativity Creche Monday, Dec. 3 rd 4:30 p.m. at the Rockland County Legislative Office Building, 11 New Hempstead Road, New City. Please join the Rockland County Catholic Coalition for this beautiful ceremony and Christmas carols. National Night of Prayer In honor of Our Lady and with prayers for the acknowledgment of the sanctity of all human life. Saturday, December 8 th at 9:00 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyack. Begins with the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is at 11:00 p.m. This national event is being organized here by the Rockland County Catholic Coalition.
