2 THE MOST HOLY TRINITY MONDAY 5/23 TUESDAY 5/24 WEDNESDAY 5/25 MAY 22, 2016 First Reading: Proverbs 8:22-31 God created Wisdom before he created the earth or the skies. This spirit stood beside God every day until the earth was complete, then "found delight in the people of the earth." This indicates that the spirit of wisdom was later personified by Jesus. Second Reading: Romans 5:1-5 Paul says that we are now at peace with God through our faith in Jesus. We also hope to see the glory of God. This hope will not leave us disappointed because of the love God has shown in sending us the Holy Spirit. Gospel: John 16:12-15 Jesus tells the disciples that when he leaves them, a Spirit will help guide them to the truth. This Spirit will announce what he hears from Jesus, rather than speaking on his own. Everything God has also belongs to Jesus, which is why those things announced by the Spirit will actually come from Jesus. 3 PARISH PICNIC HUGE SUCCESS Last Sunday s parish picnic was a fun time for the almost 200 parishioners who attended. By popular demand, the picnic, one of our 50th anniversary year events, will now become an annual event here at St. Aedan s Parish. Many thanks to the Naurushaun Swim Club for making their beautiful facility available to our parish. A special thanks to Kieran McCormack and the members of our parish 50th Anniversary Picnic Committee, Anthony Russo; Joe & Gina Vitiello; Brian Cory; Pat Daly; Tim and Mary Kate O Callahan; Maria Diblasi; Matt Luckie; Eddie and Beth Coyle; Stephanie Garvey; Marty Fogarty and all of our volunteer workers for their dedicated efforts in making our picnic so successful. We are also very grateful to the members of the Pearl River Ambulance Corps who provided an onsite ambulance and crew throughout the afternoon. The picnic, which ran from 1 6 p.m., featured music throughout the day and lots of food and soft drinks. The BBQ grill never stopped. The line-up of games included basketball, shuffleboard, water balloon toss, sack races, musical chairs and a number of other favorites. The face painter and balloon twister worked nonstop and the cotton candy operation proved to be a big hit with the young and not so young alike. We re hoping to feature a few picnic photos on our parish Web Site within the next few days so be sure to go on line and check it out. Our next 50th Anniversary event will be a fall concert. We ll have more on this after we confirm our date and program. NATIONAL EMS WEEK CONCLUDES MAY 15th May 21st As we come to the end of National Emergency Medical Services week, we, once again, salute the dedicated men and women of EMS for their ongoing service to the individuals and families of our local communities, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. In a special way, we pause to remember and to pray for those who, in the words of Abraham Lincoln, gave their last full measure of devotion by dying in the line of duty this past year. Many of us gathered to honor them this past Tuesday at the NYS EMS memorial service held in Albany. We at St. Aedan s, were honored to host the first annual Rockland County EMS Mass on Saturday evening May 21st. The 5:30 PM mass was celebrated by our pastor and Dean of Rockland County, Msgr. Emmet Nevin who, as many of us know, is an EMT who rides with the South Orangetown Ambulance Corps. To all who serve in EMS, thank you for always being there to respond to us in our time of need. We all sleep better at night knowing you are but a 911 call away. God bless you and keep you safe! PARISH COUPLES - 50TH AND 25TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES Couples celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary of sacramental marriage anytime during 2016 are invited to attend the Annual Golden Wedding Jubilee Mass with His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan at St. Patrick's Cathedral on Saturday, June 25th at 1:30 PM or Sunday, June 26th at 2PM. Pre-registration is required. Please contact the Parish Office for registration. This event is sponsored by the Family/Life Respect Office of the Archdiocese. You may still register for these Masses. If you are celebrating your 25th or 50th Anniversary, of sacramental marriage, our parish celebration is Sunday, June 19th at the 10:00 AM Mass. Again, please contact the parish office. Back by Popular Demand! St. Aedan s Bible Camp 2016 Looking for something fun to do this summer? Come be a part of 1 week of Saint Aedan s Summer Bible Camp June 27th July 1ST - 9:30 AM to 12 Noon The cost is $75 per child and $60 for each additional child. This program will be open to all children who are entering grades K-3 and is limited to the first 75 campers. The camp revolves around a daily Bible theme and includes arts and crafts, music, games, and so much more! Registration forms can be picked up at the Church Rectory. Registration forms and payment are due Friday June 3rd. Counselors: First preference will be given to returning counselors if you contact us by June 6th. We will have a waiting list on a first come first serve basis for new counselors. NEVIN & KIERAN McCORMACK The annual AOH Division 5 Dinner Dance will be held, this year, right here at Saint Aedan s. Our pastor, Msgr. Emmet Nevin will be honored as the Hibernian of the Year and our own Kieran McCormack will be the first recipient of the John Foody Community Service Award. Vigil Mass 7 PM in the church followed by the Dinner-Dance 8 PM Midnight in the parish gym. Live music will be provided by the well known Tommy Dunne and Jan Lynch Band and the event will be catered by Bailey s of Blauvelt. The cost for the entire evening will be just $60 a person which includes beer, wine and soda. All from the parish and local community are invited to attend.
