St. John s United Church of Christ, Schwarzwald 2019 Annual Meeting St. John s United Church of Christ, Schwarzwald will hold their Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 27, 2019 following worship service. While we are disappointed that our Packers will not be in the Super Bowl this year, we are happy to once again have our Souper Bowl. We are asking each member to donate 1 can of soup (or more) and $1.00 (or more) to help tackle hunger! We do ask that you do not purchase any Tomato soup, Chicken noodle soup, or Cream of Mushroom or Chicken soup. The food pantries have a large supply of those soups. The soup donations will be going to Rays of Hope in Kiel which houses the Kiel Area Food Pantry. The monetary donation will be going to Safe Harbor in Sheboygan. +

3 Sunday, February 17 Mark your calendars for our next Mission Sunday. We will be supporting not only our troops overseas but also new recruits, veterans and first responders by creating paracord bracelets and writing thank you notes and cards. We will also start collecting Wish List items which include: Gum, Hand Warmers, Lip Balm, Mechanical Pencils, Playing Cards, Puzzle Books (7 x 10 ), and knitted and crocheted scarves. (For more information, check out the table display in the narthex.) Please help us support our Heroes serving overseas and here at home! SCARVES MADE WITH LOVE! There s something about receiving a handmade item that warms the heart, especially when you re deployed. Why? Because every moment of time, talent, and energy poured into a handmade item is an expression of deep appreciation for the service and sacrifice of the service members who receive our Care Packages. There is no specific pattern to follow so feel free to use your own. We recommend that you keep them simple and perhaps use slightly larger needles so more can be made! Please keep your scarves within our size restrictions (no larger than 4-6 wide, long) so they fit into our Care Packages. No fringe please. If your scarves are a little wider or longer, no worries! They will be given to, and appreciated by, Wounded Heroes or Veterans.

4 CHURCH & SUNDAY SCHOOL CANCELLATION DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER will be made by 7:00 am on the stations listed below: WCUB - Radio 980, Manitowoc Radio Station WLUK Channel 11, Green Bay TV station WISN Channel 12, Milwaukee TV station The cancellation will also be sent via Mail Chimp through ; on Facebook and on the church website. St John s UCC Music Notes Bell Choir performing Christmas songs on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. 5 Church Council Meeting January 6 th 2019, 3:00 PM A Church Council meeting was called to order by President Diane Weiland at 3:00 PM. The following item was discussed: 1) Parsonage Repair: The Building and Grounds Committee informed the Church Council that the parsonage chimney was in need of repair and that the furnace is 20+ years old. Estimates were gathered by the Building and Grounds committee. Approximately $1,200 - $1,300 would be required to repair the chimney only. To replace the furnace and close off the chimney the cost would be $2,995 as per an estimate from Pieper s Indoor Aire-Care. Approximately $5,300 would be required to close off the chimney, replace the furnace, and replace the air conditioner. The Church Council elected to close off the chimney and replace the furnace but not to replace the air conditioner. Total cost: $2,995. Meeting adjourned at 3:15 PM. Ross Bender, Secretary EVANGELISM MEETING MINUTES JANUARY 6, 2019 Attending this meeting were Lynn, Debbie, Janet, Connie and Helen. We welcomed Lynn to our meeting. She will be joining this committee at the end of January. Janet handed out the Evangelism Mission Statement, and Past Activities and Events List. The Evangelism committee is in charge for refreshments for the month of January. On the third Sunday in January we will be sharing refreshment time with the Shift Committee. Lynn is bringing cheese and sausage, Helen nuts and bolts and juice, Debbie party mix, Janet cookies and Connie juice. Helen will talk to Judy Westermeyer about buying some cards from the Women Guild for our shut-ins. February 3 is Souper Bowl Sunday. Lynn will take the cans to the Kiel Food Pantry and money that is collected will go to Safe Harbor. Lynn will also take away the monthly collected items to Kiel Food Pantry. We are looking into to buying a sign for the corner of Orchard Road and Highway 32. In the Narthex, there is a table which has some church information about our congregation. If you know of someone interested in our church, please take a flyer. We are still looking into making a welcome gift bag for new members. Connie will be in charge of the supplies for our morning coffee hour. Helen will take over Janet s job as chairperson when her term is up at the end of January. Debbie will be our secretary. Next Evangelism meeting is February 3, after worship. Helen Schmitz, Secretary The Mary Marthas had their book discussion for their January project. The group discussed the book, Room. Thank you to Diane for facilitating the discussion and to Lynn for hosting the event at her home. For February, the Mary Marthas will be heading to the Sheboygan County Food Bank to sort thru their nonperishables. Judy Wagner is coordinating this event.
