2 Worship & Music Ministries Music Ministries ~ Make A Joyful Noise to the Lord! Parishioners & Friends are invited to share Special Music at Summer Sunday Liturgies... Over the summer months, parishioners and friends are invited to share in worship by providing special music, in place of our cantors and choirs, as an offering to God. Susan Casteel is coordinating the weekly schedule and invites YOU to see her to discuss available dates and options... instrumentals or vocals, solos or groups are all welcome! Tuesday Evening Eucharist Weekly, 7:00 pm Parishioners and friends are invited to gather with our friends from the Bedford Anglican Fellowship as they worship in Trinity Hall, and to share in this liturgy of Word and Sacrament. The Anglican Rite is based on the Western Mass, as is our liturgy (so you ll find things rather familiar!). Wednesday Evening Vespers and Choir Rehearsals on Summer Recess Please note that our Wednesday Evening Prayer Liturgy is on Summer recess, and will resume in September. And please pass the word to friends and neighbors. Children & Youth Ministries Hey ~ Youth!!! ~ Burgers, Dogs, Water Balloons, Bocce and More Sunday, June 2; 5:00 7:00 pm Middle School & Sr High Youth will be gathering at Pastor s & Barb s (801 Echo Vale Drive), and with Liz & Vr David & Emily, for an end-of-the season picnic and some fun games and contests. Of course, there will be great prizes! Dogs & Burgers will be provided please bring chips, sides, and other fun things to eat and share. Don t forget a change of clothes because the first set will get wet! If you have an instrument that squirts water bring that along as well. AND feel free to bring a friend along, too! Kingdom Rock ~ 2013 Summer Bible School Sunday through Thursday, June At Kingdom Rock, kids will discover how to stand strong for God! This year s Vacation Bible School is filled with incredible Bible-learning experiences.kids see, hear, touch, and even taste! Science crafts, team-building games, cool Bible songs, and tasty treats are just a few of the royally rockin activities that help faith flow into real life. So mark the dates on your calendar and plan to be here! The fun starts at 6:00 pm and will end at 8:00 pm. 3 Kingdom Rock ~ Can You Share Your Time and Talent with this Great Event?? From leading activities to guiding children from station to station, we still need Youth & Adult volunteers. Helpers and leaders can be anywhere from !!! YOUTH ~ 2-Day Summer Trip ~ Knoebel s Park and more! Tuesday & Wednesday, July 16 & 17 We ll be spending a fun-filled Tuesday riding the Phoenix and more at Knoebel s Park in Ellysburg, Pa, crashing at St Matthew s Lutheran Church overnight (near Sunbury), and visiting Woodward Cave and Penn State s world-famous Creamery as we make our way home on Wednesday. Total cost for admissions, travel, and meals will be $ $25.00 due with reservation ~ balance due by deadline of Monday, July 8. Sure ~ recent 5 th grade graduates (who will be entering middle school this fall) are encouraged to come along! And, so are friends who have been a part of youth activities during the past year. Faith & Fun Club, Afterschool Ministry with Children We re already beginning to make some plans for the fall, when Faith & Fun Club will resume (on Tuesday, September10). Please check with Liz Miller with any questions, or to volunteer to be a part of this fun, weekly, ministry with our kids and friends in grades K through 5. Adult & All-Parish Ministries Trinity Book Clubs Trinity Book Clubs invite parishioners and friends to read and discuss books with significant spiritual, devotional, or theological themes. There is an afternoon session as well as an evening session. Please see our coordinator, Pat Macchiarolo, with any questions or to help you locate the books we read. In June, Trinity Afternoon and Trinity Evening Book Clubs will meet to discuss Half the Sky: Turning Oppression Into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, written by husbandwife team Nicholas Kristof & Sheryl WuDunn. The Evening group will meet on Monday, June 3, at 5:30 pm, at Trinity The Afternoon group will meet at Hebrew's on Tuesday, June 4, at 1:30 pm 3
4 Women of Trinity Thursday, June 13; Meet at Shawnee State Park at 5:00 pm Women of Trinity will meet on Thursday, June 13, at 5:00 pm. We will gather at Shawnee State Park at the regional office. At 5:00 we will share a picnic meal. Fried chicken and place settings will be provided. Please bring a side dish and your own beverage. Devotions will be led by Liz Miller. Sign up sheet in Trinity Hall. Following supper, women will have the opportunity to enjoy hiking, kayaking, bocce ball, biking, or reading under a shade tree. Equipment (other than bikes) will be provided. If you have questions, please see Linda McElroy, Mary Ann Martz, or Mary Lorah. Family Summer Camping Weekend at Jellystone Campground, Mill Run, PA Friday Sunday, July (about 1 ½ hours west of Bedford) A summer weekend of Camping and Fellowship is being planned for parishioners and friends. Trailer & Tent sites can be reserved, with lots of activities for children, youth, and adults ~ pools, splash-zone, wagon rides, fire-truck rides, and more! Activities for Day-Trippers are also being planned, which include those mentioned above, as well as biking and/or hiking. Since sights are limited, advance reservations are necessary. Please: 1) Contact Jennifer Klavuhn ( ) and let her know you are planning to go, and 2) contact Jellystone Campground directly ( ) and make your reservations, noting that you are part of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Bedford group, so you are kept in close proximity to other Trinity Campers. Be sure to check out the park s website at Outreach Ministries Pangani House and Reuben ~ June s Special Ministry Appeal Pangani House is a ministry of the Kenyan Evangelical Lutheran Church which cares for younger and teenaged girls. Girls who live at the Pangani House receive schooling, housing, meals, and medical support within a Christian Community. Reuben is a special young boy, identified by our Lutheran Missionary Family in Africa at the request of our Senior High & Middle School Youth, who is also benefiting greatly from our ongoing support. Our gifts are providing housing, school-tuition, food, health care, and spiritual nurture. Please share special offerings during the month of June. Special envelopes are in Trinity Hall and with the Sunday Bulletins in the rear of the nave. Make checks payable to Trinity Lutheran Church and note Reuben and/or Pangani House on the memo line. Free Community Dinner Served at Trinity ~ Every Tuesday ~ from 5:30-6:15 pm Trinity hosts this weekly ministry which supports local families, recently serving an average of 75+ dinners each week. Parishioners of neighboring congregations also share in the ministry, giving witness to our common Christian devotion to the needs of those in our community. This ministry, now in its 4 th year, serves over 4,000 meals each year to local friends and neighbors! THANKS!, for all the support and encouragement that s been shared with this ministry! 5 Bedford Food Outreach ~ 2 Distribution Dates Each Month: June: Thursday, 6/20; 10:00 am-noon & Friday, 6/21; 10:00 am- Noon Distributions are held at The Bedford Food Outreach, 140 School Street, Bedford. Contact Dan Kerr ( ) to learn more about this ministry and how YOU can be involved. FYI BFO has provides support for an average of 770 people (from 337 families) each month. Any time you can offer, or resources you can share, will be greatly appreciated! Other Notes Baccalaureate with the Bedford Class of 2013 ~ Hosted by Trinity Sunday, June 2, 2:00 pm ~ (Pre-Baccalaureate Recital begins at 1:40 pm) Trinity is honored to host this special liturgy of prayer and blessing with the Bedford High School Class of Graduates, families, friends and neighbors of the community are all invited to be a part of this very special liturgy, which Trinity is honored to host for our community. We ll share special prayers for those graduating at upcoming Sunday liturgies. Restoration Work is Beginning! Special Congregational Meeting ~ Sunday, June 9; 9:30 am Restoration of the Parish House, which was damaged by fire in June, 2011, began with the replacement of some burned-out floor-boards on the 1 st and 2 nd floors this past week. Plans include the creation of a 2nd floor residence for our vicars and three large 1st floor handicappedaccessible gathering rooms for youth and other fellowship ministries. Thanks to those who served on the Restoration Advisory Team, whose recommendations have provided the basis for the designs of our architect and contractor. The vast majority of the expense (c. $267,000) will be provided through our insurance coverage. Planned "upgrades" (replacing an oil furnace and window a/c units with a zoned, high-efficiency heat pump, the installation of 2nd floor kitchen facilities, etc) may amount to additional costs of up to $33,000. These "upgrades" will provide years of cost savings to the congregation. Parishioners are invited to this special meeting which will be held Sunday, June 9, 9:30 am, in Trinity Hall to act on the recommendation to allocate funds for these purposes. 5
6 Bedford County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Tuesday, June 11; 6:30 pm; St. Peter s Lutheran Church Members and Friends of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans are invited to join with the Chapter Leadership Board for their June meeting at St. Peter s Lutheran Church, 175 Graybill Rd.,Osterburg. See Rick Smith with any questions. Vocal Recital ~ Ariana Fletcher, Soprano Sunday June 23; 3:00 PM Soprano, Ariana Fletcher, a student of Terry Osman, will be performing at Trinity Lutheran Church. Ariana and guest, Jack Bittner, will be accompanied by Mr. Osman. They will be singing classical works, Italian arias, show tunes, and a number of duets. A free-will offering will be received to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia. A reception will follow the recital in Trinity Hall. A Special Presentation by Dr. Mary Burke on Human Trafficking Sunday, June 30; 2:00 pm Human Trafficking, the enslavement and economic exploitation of human beings, is the subject of Half the Sky, a book which our Trinity Book Clubs are reading in June. Dr Mary Burke, Professor at Carlow College, is very committed to addressing the violations of human dignity and rights which Human Trafficking represents. She speaks nationally and internationally on this subject, and currently serves on the PA Senate s Advisory Committee, which is charged with making recommendations to the State s general Assembly on Human Trafficking in Pennsylvania. Parishioners and friends are invited to gather in Trinity Hall to meet Dr. Burke and learn what is happening, regionally and globally, to combat this plague. Please see Pat Macchiarolo, who is coordinating this event, for more information. Building Renovation Mortgage Update Since 2003, when we began extensive major renovation work (building expansion, elevator, handicapped accessibility, and then steeple restoration, roof replacement and more), we ve received over $1,108,100 in special gifts and offerings. The cost of the projects and financing are at $1,193,000. So, we re 97% of the way there! THANK YOU to everyone who has shared special offerings over the years, and especially those who continue to do so. We re hopeful that we will receive the remaining outstanding pledges, which will total $49,900, between now and the end of the year, bringing our remaining balance due to c. $35, If you are not presently sharing special offerings with this need, your support would be greatly appreciated. It would be wonderful to be debt-free by the end of the year! Volunteers to Water Flowers over the Summer... Parishioners and friends are invited to sign-up in Trinity Hall to come and water the flowers in the planters around the church, a few times a week, as rain and heat necessitate. 7 CD Recordings of Sunday Liturgies are Available CD recordings of (most) Sunday Liturgies are available to our parishioners and friends. These may be appreciated by our long-term home-bound parishioners, those temporarily unable to attend liturgies, those who want to re-hear something from a previous Sunday, etc. Please contact the Church Office if you would appreciate receiving the CDs.
