Youth Mission collects returnable bottles and cans on the third Sunday of every month at the time of the morning Worship Service. Please bring deposit bottles and cans in boxes or tied plastic bags to the new drop spot on the grass bank under the big yellow handicapped parking sign directly across from the main front entrance. (Please do not block that parking space.) The group also has an account at Lansing Bottle & Can Redemption Center (3106 North Triphammer Road). Celebrate Our Church's History and Future TODAY!, Sunday, May 21st, is Heritage Sunday at Lansing UMC It is important to remember where we've been as well as where we are going! Heritage Sunday is one of five special Sundays designated by the General Conference of the worldwide United Methodist Church for church wide emphasis without a special offering. "Heritage Sunday shall be observed on Aldersgate Day (May 24th), or the Sunday preceding that date. The day provides an opportunity for reflection on heritage, celebration of where the Church has been, how it understands itself as it shapes us today, and the meaning of Christian conferencing. Heritage Sunday calls the Church to remember the past by committing itself to the continuing call of God." (from 264.1, p. 212, The Book of Discipline, 2016.) Kidz Quest! (Children s Sunday School) Three Sundays -- May 21st, June 4th, & June 11th Vacation Bible School is ramping up, and we want everyone to be excited! During the Sunday School hour on these three Sundays, Kidz Quest will be doing a series of VBS retrospectives! We ll remember the themes, memory verses, some games and activities, and the worship music from great programs of the past (like G-Force and Cave Quest). Join us for a rousing look back at Vacation Bible Schools of yore as we approach this summer s Maker Fun Factory in July!

Pastor Alison will be on hand to help clarify what we share in common, and in what ways Christianity is different. 4 LUMC s New Online Giving Information Session In Two Weeks, Sunday, June 4th, 10:30 a.m. Would you be interested in learning how to make LUMC financial contributions ONLINE? Or perhaps you d just like to be able to check your pledge status or giving history anytime, without waiting for paper statements to come out? If so, then save the date for a brief Information Session on LUMC s new Online Giving option, presented by Kelly and Mike Tracy, on Sunday, June 4th, in Fellowship Hall at approximately 10:30 a.m. If you are unable to make the Information Session but are interested in learning more, Kelly and she can forward you all the details to get you up and running. This is what we continue to see weekly and over the first quarter of the year as it relates to our 2017 Operating Stewardship Campaign. Income through the 1st quarter (January - March 2017) is ahead of schedule with just over $82,000 received to date. This represents 27% of the total Operating Income Budget Year to Date. LUMC committee chairs are counted on to do their part in managing their decisions on how we use your gifts. Through the first quarter we have total expenses of $78,349 which represents 24.4% of our total expense budget. If you are keeping track of how each piece connects, we are exceeding our goal for income and managing our expenses at slightly better than expected. We still have a long way to go and need everyone to continue to do their share as we move through the remaining 9 months of the year. You can find a more complete copy of our annual 2017 budget in the Narthex on the bulletin board or on the table outside of the sanctuary. If you would like a more detailed look at the 2017 Operation Plan, we encourage you to reach out to Jim Blair or Barry Putnam -- either would be happy to provide you with further detail. Each Piece Counts and we are counting on you as we work through the remainder of the year. LUMC Forward Building Update After Sunday School on May 14, everything was moved out of the Children's Sunday School wing of our building. Thank you to all the children and adults who helped make this happen! As of Monday, May 15th, we have turned the Children's Sunday School wing over to the contractors. The door on the South end of the building is now part of the construction site and no longer usable. When you come to worship on Sunday, expect the Sunday School wing to be closed and sealed off. We will use the Narthex entrance to the Sanctuary. Outside, contractors are preparing to pour the cement footers for the new building. Pictures of the building's progress will be posted on Facebook at

5 Weekly Building Renovation Update The following work was completed during the week of May 7th - 13th: 1. Excavation was completed for the foundation for the new wing. 2. Materials of reinforced steel arrived on site. 3. Began construction of reinforcing bars in footers. 4. As of May 15th, forming of footers for exterior wall of foundation.
