Outreach Ministries March s Special Ministry Highlight and Appeal Free Community Dinner Free Community Dinners is a charitable ministry to families of the community, which serves people a hot meal every week, as they gather in Trinity s Social Room. While Trinity is the weekly host-sight of the dinner, we are blessed by the partnership of our ecumenical partners from The Bedford church of the Brethren, The Bedford Presbyterian, The Bedford United Methodist Church, St John s United Church of Christ, and St Thomas Roman Catholic who share in this ministry with us. Since this ministry began in 2009, Trinity s Serving Team has been coordinated by Betsy Littlefield and continues to involve many parishioners adults, children & youth. If you ve not experienced the joy of serving, please see Betsy or sign up the next time the opportunity arises. As you are able during the month, please share a gift with the Free Community Dinners. Please make checks payable to Trinity, and note Community Dinner on the memo line. Special Envelopes have been prepared for this appeal, and are with the Sunday Bulletins and in Trinity Hall. Free Community Dinner ~ Ecumenical Ministry Hosted by Trinity and Served every Tuesday Evening; 5:30 pm Trinity is the host and coordinator of the Free Community Dinner ministry which serves a warm and nutritious meal to neighbors and friends of our community every week. It is also a beautiful witness to ecumenical friendships, as we work together with 5 other local congregations. Trinity s next evening to serve is Tuesday, March 28. A sign-up sheet is posted in Trinity Hall for helpers and servers. Please check with Betsy Littlefield if you have any questions. Other News Trinity s 250 th Anniversary Planning Team Our First Meeting is set for Monday, March 20; 6:00 pm On Trinity Sunday, June 16, 2019, parishioners and friends of Trinity will have the joy of celebrating the congregation s 250 th Anniversary. Since 1769 (7 years prior to the signing of the Declaration of Independence), Trinity has been sharing a Christian Witness with the Bedford Community. As the oldest congregation in the Allegheny Synod, we want to be sure to acknowledge and celebrate this milestone in festive fashion! There are a lot of things to consider special events, updates to our History, invitations to guests, and more. Please contact Pr Short if you can share some time to serve on this once-in-a-lifetime planning team. 5
6 Christmas Family Festival s 50 th Anniversary Planning Team Our First Meeting will be Monday, March 27; 6:00 pm On Sunday, December 17, 2017, we ll celebrate the 50 th Anniversary of our Christmas Family Festival. The event was first held in 1968 by the 6 local congregations of the Greater Bedford Lutheran Parish. While it has evolved through the years, some of the basic components of the annual Festival have remained unchanged: a Christmas Cantata, Children s Participation, and a Holiday meal. Our historic partners, Bald Hill, St James, St Mark, and Christ Lutheran Churches are all sending parishioners to serve on the planning team with us. Please check with Pr Short if you would like to share in the work. Stained Glass Window Covering Replacement Proposal Special Congregational Meeting Set for Sunday, April 2; 9:45 am We have some good news to share! As the Plexiglas protective coverings on our 28 stained glass windows have become badly discolored, the Property Team has been exploring our options to remedy the situation. Finally, we ve found a well-recommended contractor, Glass Erectors inc, Reynoldsville, PA, with the experience and skills we can trust to replace the discolored Plexiglas with clear tempered glass, especially designed for this purpose. Not only will the tempered glass protect our windows, but it also will enable us and our neighbors to once again appreciate the beauty of the windows which were designed and installed as part of the church s original construction in 1871 (almost 150 years ago). And, unlike Plexiglas, Tempered Glass will not discolor over time. After a joint meeting of our Property and Finance Teams, our Executive Team has called a special congregational meeting to review the proposed work and recommends committing the necessary funds, $37,200, to accomplish the much-needed project. The work could begin as early as mid/late April, and is expected to take about 7 weeks (or so). To fund this special project, parishioners and friends will be invited to share special offerings, as general gifts, memorials, or honorariums through April, May and June. The progress toward our goal will be published weekly, and all donations will be appropriately acknowledged. In the meanwhile, parishioners and friends are asked to 1) mark the date and plan to attend the special meeting (April 2), 2) consider the generosity which you will share with this need, and 3) share a word of thanks with the members of the Property and Finance Teams for their diligent service to keeping our facilities in such great shape! With Easter on the Way Small Candies: Please share a bag or two of small, individually wrapped candies, which we ll use to stuff our Easter Eggs for the annual Children s Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday. A collection box is in Trinity Hall. We would really appreciate donations to be dropped-off no later than Palm Sunday. THANKS! All-Parish Easter Breakfast Foods: Please sign up, in Trinity Hall, to help out with the annual All-Parish Easter Breakfast (which we ll serve Easter Morning at 9:45 am) ~ Egg casseroles, fruits, and baked goods. If you are planning to join us (and we sure hope you are), please be sure to sign up in advance to share a few items. Thanks to this year s coordinators, Sherri Growden, Mary Lorah, Guy Mellott, & LaDonna Snyder Easter Lily Sponsors: Parishioners and friends are invited to sponsor lilies, in honor or in memory of loved ones, which will adorn the church during the upcoming Easter liturgies and then be delivered to parishioners in special circumstances. Please use one of the special envelopes which have been prepared and which are available with the Sunday Bulletins and in Trinity Hall. The cost is $ Please contact the Church Office with any questions. Easter Lily Deliverers: Please help share our Easter Joy by helping to deliver a few Easter Lilies with our home-bound parishioners. You can make your deliveries any time during the first few days after Easter, at your convenience. Sign up in Trinity Hall if you can share a little of your time. 6
