Penn Street, Bedford, PA Phone: (814) Website: Office Hours: Monday-Friday; 8 am-noon & 1-3:30 pm For Emergency Contact after Office Hours: Pr Weinhold (410) Pr Short (814) The Sixth Sunday after the Epiphany Sunday, February 17, 2019 Eucharists at 8:30 and 11:00 am Sunday School & Adult Forum at 9:45 am ~ Today s Hymns ~ Gathering Hymn: #769 If You But Trust in God to Guide You Communion Hymns: #696 Jesus Calls Us; o er the Tumult #479 We Come to the Hungry Feast #806 O God, My Faithful God Sending Hymn: #715 Christ, Be Our Light ~ Today s Collect ~ P: Living God, in Christ you make all things new. Transform the poverty of our nature by the riches of your grace, and in the renewal of our lives make known your glory, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. C: Amen.

2 ~ Today s Readings ~ The First Reading: Jeremiah 17:5-10 L: A Reading from Jeremiah. Thus says the Lord: Cursed are those who trust in mere mortals and make mere flesh their strength, whose hearts turn away from the Lord. They shall be like a shrub in the desert and shall not see when relief comes. They shall live in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land. Blessed are those who trust in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. They shall be like a tree planted by water, sending out its roots by the stream. It shall not fear when heat comes, and its leaves shall stay green; in the year of drought it is not anxious, and it does not cease to bear fruit. The heart is devious above all else; it is perverse who can understand it? I the Lord test the mind and search the heart, to give to all according to their ways, according to the fruit of their doings. L: The Word of the Lord C: Thanks be to God. Psalmody: Psalm 1 Please join in singing the congregational refrain: Cantor: Happy indeed are those who follow not the counsel of the wicked, nor linger in the way of sinners now sit in the company of scorners, but whose delight is the law of the Lord and who ponder God s law day and night. Refrain. Cantor: They are like a tree that is planted beside the flowering waters, that yields its fruit in due season and whose leaves shall never fade; and all that they do shall prosper. Not so are the wicked, not so! Refrain. Cantor: For they, like winnowed chaff, shall be driven away by the wind. For the Lord guards the way of the just but the way of the wicked leads to doom. Refrain. The Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:12-20 L: A Reading from 1 Corinthians. Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised; and if Christ has not been

3 raised, then our proclamation has been in vain and your faith has been in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified of God that he raised Christ -- whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised. If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have died in Christ have perished. If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have died. L: The Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. The Gospel Acclamation Please rise and join in singing the Gospel Acclamation s Refrain: Cantor: Rejoice and leap for joy, for your reward is great in heaven. Refrain. Holy Gospel: Luke 6:17-26 D: The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke the 6 th Chapter C: Glory to you, O Lord. He came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea, Jerusalem, and the coast of Tyre and Sidon. They had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. And all in the crowd were trying to touch him, for power came out from him and healed all of them. Then he looked up at his disciples and said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in heaven; for that is what their ancestors did to the prophets. "But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. Woe to you who are full now, for you will be

4 hungry. Woe to you who are laughing now, for you will mourn and weep. Woe to you when all speak well of you, for that is what their ancestors did to the false prophets." D: The Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ. ~ Today s Prayers & Intercessions ~ We pray for the Church: that as we gather around and share the Word and Sacraments, our lives may be renewed and a spirit of love may be rekindled within us. Lord, in your mercy We pray for growth in faith: that we may be dawn more deeply into God s way, and live as agents of grace and hope with one another. Lord you re your mercy We pray for a spirit of gracious stewardship and the vision to manage our gifts and resources well: that what the Lord has given us in abundance, may overflow as charity and blessings to others. Lord, in your mercy We pray for a discerning mind: that we may see beyond the illusions of blinding wealth, and recognize the true fulfillment of our hungers and desires that can be found only in God. Lord, in your mercy For all who are persecuted or suffering for their faith: that they may have strength to bear the burdens of the day and witness, with grace, to the hope and life which is given by God. Lord, in your mercy We pray for an end to violence and the exploitation of the poor: that God will raise them up, lead others to appreciate and value their human dignity, and guide them to new ways to use their skills and support their families. Lord, in your mercy We pray for the leaders of nations: that God will give them insight into the issues that challenge our society, set them on a course to govern with justice, and inspire them to work for the common good. Lord, in your mercy We pray for the sick, for those recovering from surgery, and all who long for wholeness and health, especially : that the Sprit s abundant gifts of healing, strength, and patience might be theirs. Lord, in your mercy We pray for refugees and those who seek peace for themselves and their families: that God will lead them to places of safety and inspire others to receive them with compassion and respect. Lord, in your mercy For all who have died to this life, especially we remember : that they may rest from their labors in the eternal light of God s presence. May those who know the sadness of grief be renewed by the hope of the resurrection and the compassionate deeds of friends. Lord in your mercy
