1 Resurrection Lutheran Church Resurrection Lutheran Church s Mission: Sharing the Love of God God s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that God loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. John 4: 9-11 In Flux The congregation recently received information about the possibility of improving our current sound system and including projection capabilities into the facility. Currently, the process to discuss this proposal from the Council is scheduled for Sunday, June 11, 18 and 25. In the meantime, there has also been some development in the search for a new facility for our congregation. (The current facility sits on land that is for sale and when this land sells, our current building will be torn down. We currently rent this building from the Diocese of Joliet). The Facility Search Team is scheduled to meet with friends from the Minooka United Methodist Church on June 7 to explore the possibility of purchasing their facility. At this point all we can say is that both congregations building teams and boards are interested in further exploring the possibility of RLC purchasing the MUMC building. MUMC is planning to construct a new facility in 2018 and our current lease runs through As more information becomes available, we will communicate it with you. Resurrection has also submitted paperwork to the Mission Investment Fund (MIF), which is our Resurrection Lutheran Church Core Values June 2017 Worship: Gather around Word and Sacrament to receive the good news of God s grace and to respond in daily discipleship. Discipleship: Grow in faith, love, and obedience to the will of God through prayer, study, fellowship, worship, stewardship, service, and justice. Outreach: Invite and welcome our neighbors to experience the love of God here at Resurrection and within the Church universal.
2 P AGE 2 denomination s bank. ( The MIF exists to help congregations purchase buildings, renovate buildings, refinance debt, etc. We have submitted for a Loan Prequalification, which will give us a much better understanding of what the MIF would approve for the amount and terms of our mortgage. If the possibility of purchasing the MUMC building seems to become more of a reality, then it also seems possible that this potential development will effect our conversation about the sound system and projection. We will also share these developments with you as soon as more information becomes available. Please keep all of this in your prayer. There are many moving parts. As your pastor and also on behalf of the Congregation Council and Facility Search Team, we will do our best to communicate all these moving parts and any and all developments. At the very least, we will be able to provide an update after the June 7 meeting. Thank you for your patience, your input and understanding, and for your participation in the life of Resurrection! God has good things in store for RLC! Council Meeting The congregation council meeting is Tuesday, June 13 at 6 PM at New Life in Bolingbrook.. Facility Search Update The Facility Search Team is continuing its work of identifying Resurrection s future church facility. The Search Team will be meeting with several members of the Minooka United Methodist Church on Tuesday, June 7, to explore the possibility of purchasing their building (MUMC plans to build a new building in 2018). Synod Assembly The annual meeting of the Northern Illinois Synod (the region of our denomination, the ELCA, that Resurrection is in) is Friday, June 16 through Saturday, June 17. Thank you to Beth Bullard and Jeanne Berg for participating in this important event as Resurrection s delegates! $120,730 Pledged!
3 P AGE 3 W O R S H I P Thanking Channahon Police On Sunday, June 4, there will be a potluck brunch in honor of the Channahon Police Department. We ll share all the cards we ve been making and express our thanksgiving and appreciation. Please bring a dish to share. The Channahon Police Department has been invited to join us on the 4 th Musician Transition On Sunday, June 11, we will bid farewell to Peg Tracy, Leader of Worship Music. She has faithfully served Resurrection s worship and for that, we give thanks! She has the opportunity to work close to full-time hours as a church musician in an area church, which is a better fit for her family at this time. Please keep the musician search process in your prayer. Summertime Worship Worshipping on a regular basis is essential to nourishing faith. By all means, take a break from those things that are stressful and tiring this summer, but keep worship as a life-giving part to your summer routine. Children s Choir All children are welcome and encouraged to join the Children s Choir. The Children s Choir will resume in the fall. If you d like your child to be part of this joyous worship ministry, please talk with Bobbi Garbin ( , vanoskey@yahoo.com). An Act of Worship Giving your offering each Sunday is an act of worship. Offering is giving to God! In your offering you re giving thanks to God, trusting God, and sacrificing for God s ministry happening through Resurrection Lutheran Church. Sunday Sermons In the event you missed worship on a Sunday or got distracted during worship, you can always find the audio of Pastor Ben s sermons at on Resurrection s Facebook page, or sign up for Faith Seeds and the link to the sermon will be texted to you to 81010). Nursery Care Nursery child care is provided every Sunday. The nursery is for infants through five years old and is available throughout the worship service.
4 P AGE 4 D I S C I P L E S H I P Women s Bible Study The Women s Bible meets will resume in the fall. If you d like to learn more, please talk with Nancy Corrigan ( , nmcorrigan@gmail.com). Bring your lunch and gather with friends at 11:30 AM on Thursdays. Beverages are provided. Vacation Bible School VBS is Monday, July 31 through Friday, August 4, 6-8 PM! You can register online at or complete the attached form. VBS is a great event to invite your friends. Plus, Friday, August 4, is swimming at the Channahon Pool! Vacation Bible School Volunteers Your help is needed! There are many and varied ways you can help make this another great Vacation Bible School, and you can help if you have one night free or all five. Please talk to Beth Bullard to learn more and please plan to attend a meeting on Wednesday, June 21, at 7 PM. Daily Text Messages Your church is glad to send you a daily text message that includes a prayer, a Bible verse, and a faith spark! Those who are receiving the Faith Seeds text appreciate the little prayer and faith nudge. To receive the text messages simply to or let Pastor Ben know. Confirmation If your child(ren) will be in the 7 th or 8 th grade this fall and you re interested in him/her deepening their faith walk with Jesus, please contact Pastor Ben. Confirmation is a two-year process of learning, serving and participating in the life of the church that leads up to the individual affirming God s gift of Jesus Christ in their life. First Communion and Baptism If you are interested in First Communion or Holy Baptism for you and your son or daughter, please talk with Pastor Ben. Summertime Giving Options Summertime is a busy time of the year for everyone. If you can t make it to church every week, please consider signing up for Automated Giving. Talk to Nancy Lindamood ( ), or call the church office. Simply Giving is a program that automatically sends your giving to Resurrection. You can also manage your giving online at or with your Smart Phone with options to use your debit or credit card. Whichever option you prefer, the amount you give and the frequency of your giving is set by you and can be changed at any time.
