Now the word of the Lord came to me saying, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations." Then I said, "Ah, Lord God! Truly I do not know how to speak, for I am only a boy." But the Lord said to me, "Do not say, "I am only a boy'; for you shall go to all to whom I send you, and you shall speak whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord." Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth; and the Lord said to me, "Now I have put my words in your mouth. See, today I appoint you over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and to pull down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant." L: The Word of the Lord C: Thanks be to God. O God, you have taught me from my youth and I proclaim your wonder still. Refrain. The Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 L: A Reading from 1 Corinthians. If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers,

3 and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love. L: The Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They said, "Is not this Joseph's son?" He said to them, "Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, "Doctor, cure yourself!' And you will say, "Do here also in your hometown the things that we have heard you did at Capernaum.' " And he said, "Truly I tell you, no prophet is accepted in the prophet's hometown. But the truth

4 is, there were many widows in Israel in the time of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a severe famine over all the land; yet Elijah was sent to none of them except to a widow at Zarephath in Sidon. There were also many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian." When they heard this, all in the synagogue were filled with rage. They got up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, so that they might hurl him off the cliff. But he passed through the midst of them and went on his way. D: The Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ. ~ Today s Prayers & Intercessions ~ We pray for the Church: that God s people may grow in faith, hope and love, and share these virtues with all peoples of creation. Lord, in your mercy We pray for our deacons, pastors, and bishops in Christ: that they might serve the Church with faithfulness and teach the Faith with clarity and grace. Lord, in your mercy For the Christian People of the Philippines: that, in the midst of violence and persecution, they may know the strength and comfort of the Holy Spirit. Lord, in your mercy We pray for married and engaged couples: that God will lead them to know generous love toward each other and be signs of His grace to their families and communities. Lord, in your mercy We pray for those who are hungry and cold and in need of assistance: that we may hear Christ s call to be a people of generosity and charity, and share generously with their need. Lord, in your mercy We pray for the youth of our parish as they participate in this weekend s Youth Quake retreat: that they may grow in faith, build meaningful relationships, and travel in safety. Lord, in your mercy We pray for the sick, the infirm, and those who long for health and wellness, especially we remember : that the Spirit of God will be their strength and healing, and that their caregivers may be filled with kindness and compassion. Lord, in your mercy

5 We pray for those who have passed from this life, and who rest in God s mercy. Especially today, we remember : that as we mourn their passing, we may know the consolation of the Holy Spirit, and the Hope of the Resurrection. Lord, in your mercy For all the Saints of the Church. we pray with thanksgiving: that with St Peter and St Paul and all the Witnesses of Christ, we might be united in Faith, inspired and renewed, and raised to new life. Enrollment is nearing 50 kids this year! Transportation is provided from the Bedford and Chestnut Ridge Schools. Parents arrive for pick-up, at Trinity, at 4:30 pm. Faith and Fun is bigger than ever and we are having a blast. We ve had to cap enrollment at 50 kids, to ensure that we have adequate adult support. 8 Chicken Parmesan Youth Ministry Benefit Dinner Serving Sunday, February 17; 5:00 pm Plan to have a great dinner at the Church prepared and served by the youth of the Parish! Proceeds help provide assistance to the youth as they participate in the annual February weekend Pittsburgh Youth Quake, summer camp at Camp Sequanota, and other Youth Events. Tickets are $20, and the meal includes salad, chicken parmesan, pasta and sauce, bread/rolls, cheese cake for dessert, and hot and cold beverages. Check with the church office or see any of the parish youth who will be involved! And THANKS, again, for all your support and encouragement of our congregation s youth through the years! Youth Group Sunday March 3, 2019; 2:00-3:45pm Our Youth will be gathering together for a wild afternoon. We will play some fiercely competitive games, enjoy some great refreshments, have some good discussions, and help some of our neighbors through Kiva. 9 Women of Trinity ~ Soup-Making Night & Soup Sale Thursday, February 7; 6:30 pm We ll enjoy an evening of fellowship as we ll work together to make soup for our annual soup sale (Vegetable and Chicken-Rice) and favors for the upcoming Spring Tea (which will be held the afternoon of Saturday, April 13). Betsy Littlefield is coordinating the soup-making. A sign-up sheet is in Trinity Hall for parishioners and friends to pre-order quarts of soup ($8.00/qt), which will be available for pick-up after liturgies on Sunday, February 10. The sale will benefit upcoming Women of Trinity Mission Projects and the annual Winter Retreat (March 9) at the Bedford Springs. St Paul s Letter to the Romans Adult Mid-Week Bible Study Beginning Wednesday, March 13 St Paul s Letter to the Romans is considered the Apostle s major work and is given a place of prominence among the New Testament Epistles. Through history, Romans has had significant influence on the likes of St Augustine, Martin Luther, John Wesley, and others. Our 2019 Spring 10-week study, led by Pr Weinhold and Pr Short, will begin Wednesday, March 13; 6:00 pm, in Trinity Hall, immediately preceding our mid-weekend Lenten Devotions (Stations of the Cross) and through the weeks following Easter. Please bring a Bible, invite a friend, and sign-up in Trinity Hall if you ll be able to join us! Adult Night Out Fellowship Gathering Tuesday, March 26; 6:00 pm For something a little different, we ll gather in the Parish House and enjoy an evening together, on site! Roast Beef and Turkey Sliders will be provided. Please bring along your favorite sides and beverage(s) of choice to share. 10 ~ Outreach Ministries ~ Souperbowl of Caring Offering this Morning Please share Generously! Sunday, February 5 after both liturgies This morning members of our Outreach Ministry Team are gathering special offerings as we leave liturgies, under the banner of Souper Bowl of Caring. These gifts will be shared with the ELCA s World Hunger Appeal, a ministry that serves those in need of food and nutrition at home and around the world. Please, as you are able, share generously! ELCA s World Hunger Appeal February s Special Ministry Highlight and Appeal Through the month of February, we re gathering financial gifts which we ll share with the ELCA World Hunger Appeal, a ministry of the Church which provides food and support to hungry people. This ministry of the Church is regularly recognized as one of the best charitable organizations, directing 100% of the donations it receives to providing food and other essentials to benefit the poor. Please share your gift for this Ministry by using a special envelope. If you enclose a check, please make it payable to Trinity Lutheran Church, and note World Hunger on the memo line. 860 Chicks! THANK YOU!!! Thanks to the generosity of parishioners and friends, we received $ during January, which, through the ELCA s Global Barnyard Ministry, will provide 860 chicks to impoverished people around the world. Thank you, very much, for sharing so generously! Free Community Dinner ~ Ecumenical Ministry Trinity hosts and coordinates the Free Community Dinner ministry which has been serving warm and nutritious meals to neighbors of our community every week since September 2009! Trinity s next night to serve is Tuesday, February 12. Please sign up in Trinity Hall if you can help serve and/or share a cake for dessert. God s Holy Church Triumphant A Choral & Orchestral Work, Celebrating Trinity s 250 th Anniversary Sunday, May 5; 3:00 pm Mark your calendars, invite your friends, and plan to join us for what will be a wonderful and exciting afternoon of music at Trinity! A 30+ voice choir, accompanied by an orchestra, will share this special commissioned work, composed by (our own) Terry Osman. There will be a variety of rehearsal opportunities, in addition to our regular Wednesday evenings, to enable and welcome friends and guests to be a part of this special choir and to be included in this once-in-a lifetime musical event of praise and thanksgiving. Pr Steve Lynn, our parish vicar from 1980, who recently retired as Sr Pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, State College, PA, will be our guest preacher for the morning s liturgies. Sunday Afternoon, May 5 ~ God s Holy Church Triumphant, a commissioned Choral & Orchestral Work, composed by Terry Osman, performed at Trinity. Sunday, June 16 ~ The 250 th Anniversary Year Feast of The Holy Trinity. 8:30 am ~ One morning liturgy this day, concluding with the interment of the 250 th Anniversary Time Capsule. 2:00 pm ~ Festival Liturgy Celebration at 2:00 pm, with Guest Preacher Bp Matthew Riegel (former Parish Vicar), followed by Dinner & Dancing at the Elks.

12 250 th Anniversary Directories Are In! Pick Up Yours In Trinity Hall Our long awaited 250 th Anniversary Directories have arrived and they look beautiful. Thank you for helping fill them with so many good looking families. If you were photographed for the directory and would like to pick yours up be sure to visit the directory table in Trinity Hall. Web Address: Access Code: 250 th 250 th Anniversary Altar & Nave Renovation Project Thank you for your generous and on-going gifts! $201,990 in special offerings have been pledged (as of 1/31/19). $148,410 have been shared toward these commitments. $53,580 remains to be received. Can we still donate?... Certainly, and Please Do! New pledges will help to reduce our loan balance more quickly (resulting in significant savings on financing costs) and to replenish some of the funds which were advanced from the Memorial Fund for the sake of future ministries/projects. Thank You, once again, for your generous support of Trinity s ministries, in so many ways! Recycling at Trinity For the past few years, a group of parishioners have maintained the effort to catch and redirect our recyclable items (such as paper from the office and cans from the kitchen) to places where they can be recycled. If you would like to help in this recycling/stewardship effort, you can sign up in Trinity Hall. Volunteers pick up the recycling a few times each month and drop them off at a convenient recycling location. Please check with Stacy, in the Church Office, if you have any questions.

13 The Sestercentennial Corner Many individuals and church groups contributed to the furnishings of the 1871 church. In memory of her daughter, Linnie, Mrs. Louisa Wilson of Philadelphia presented the pulpit furniture, as well as the tall window now found at the top of the front steps on the north side of the building. The Ladies Aid Society presented the carpet. The large pulpit Bible was given by the Sunday School. Interestingly, per council minutes, several signs were posted requesting all persons refrain from the use of tobacco in the church. Local news accounts described the new Trinity church as a handsome structure, an ornament to the town as well as showing the zeal and piety of its members.
