2 Dear Church Family, I am thankful for each of you and your role as a disciple in the life of Waynedale United Methodist Church. We are a congregation that Joyfully Connects People to Christ and Community! Our congregation is experiencing renewal of focus, purpose and passion as we Remember our Past and Imagine our Future. That is the theme of our Capital Campaign and affirms our life at Waynedale UMC in many ways. We have much to be thankful for about our past. Many people gave sacrificially to the Lord through this ministry. We are a part of a congregation that others have built for us. With a thankful heart we imagine our future by looking ahead to new goals and building this ministry for others. We will focus on becoming debt free and celebrate when that happens. We seek to do some repairs when we go over our goal, which is what others and I believe will happen. The information about the Campaign follows in this booklet. I look forward to seeing how God will provide through the resources we give as we give thanks and imagine our future ministry. 3 Stewardship Stories Imagine four people. These people (whose names are made up) and their stories are based on true events and experiences in the church. Sally came to Waynedale United Methodist Church first because she was hungry. A friend told her that this congregation gives food to those in need, so she came and was guided through the process of getting food for her family. She felt overwhelmed and a little embarrassed, but a volunteer gave her a big hug and said, It will be okay. God loves you. Though she does not attend worship, Sally knows she is cared for and loved and so is her family. She heard that Alcoholics Anonymous meets twice a week in the church basement and encouraged a family member to attend. Sally is thankful for the support and love she has received from the church community. She donates to the church with gratitude for the ways it has helped her family and for bringing her closer to God. Today, Sally is thankful. Roger has been an active part of the church community for years and has seen the church needs grow and change. Though he does not like going to meetings, he cares for the ministry by giving above and beyond regular tithing. Roger has a sense of peace and joy in his heart when he sees how his giving has helped the church. Roger knows that his finances provide a way to share Christ s love with others through our food bank, preschool, meals and other uses of the church building. Steve and Mary did not attend church at all until they found Waynedale United Methodist Church. They were grateful for the care and welcome they received, and they enjoyed meeting people. The church community helped them grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. They wanted to share their love for the Lord with others, and one way they found to do that was by giving financially to the church. They began with small amounts that grew over time as their budget allowed. Their hearts called for them to review their personal finances, because they found joy more by giving to the Lord than buying things for themselves. They focused their tithing on special projects and mission needs and grew closer to the Lord. Though the names are not true, they represent people who have found joy in giving to the Lord. What is your story about how giving has encouraged, taught, and nurtured you? God s love and ministry grows in us and in our community through our financial faith commitments. May you know the love of God and give to the Lord of love.

4 Our History 1903 A small chapel became Union Methodist Episcopal Church This church joined Monson Chapel and became Waynedale Methodist Episcopal Church Ground was broken for a church building. Used bricks from the Allen County Orphans Home & County Infirmary were cleaned and readied for construction by church members of all ages The original church building was completed, the cornerstone laid and building dedicated Ground was broken for the Education unit Our preschool opened its doors The first Cub Scout pack was started A new sanctuary was dedicated We opened a food bank to feed the hungry Alcoholics Anonymous began meeting in our building A Boy Scout troop was formed Waynedale United Methodist Church underwent a successful Capital Campaign to replace the roof, install new heating & cooling system, update the Sanctuary, narthex, hallways, stairwells, office areas, and library Venture Scouts began A Capital Campaign Task Force was formed to consider raising money for future structural needs of the church and the elimination of debt The Administrative Council approved hiring Church Growth Services to conduct a Pre- Campaign Assessment Remember Our Past Imagine Our Future Capital Campaign for debt elimination begins.

5 Imagine Our Ministry Benefits Imagine being debt free we will have a sense of freedom spiritually. We will be a congregation that does not have a financial burden on our lives. This freedom will allow us to not be limited in our future. Imagine being debt free we can allocate money from our General Fund currently being used to pay off debt, in new and different ways. We might use the money for staffing, for outreach, for Conference tithing, for maintenance, for missions, for new ministries! We can expand our vision to Joyfully Connect People to Christ and Community. Imagine being debt free we can give God thanks for the past projects that we funded. We can dream for our future and secure funds for what we believe God is calling us to do. Imagine being debt free we will be financially healthy! We will increase our joy! If you have personally borrowed money, can you remember the feeling you had when you made that last payment? We are looking forward to more joy in our lives when we become debt free. What Do I Do Now? PRAY That God would lead in your decision to make a commitment that represents personal sacrifice. DISCUSS Your commitment with your spouse and/or other members of your family. COMMIT Complete the Commitment Card and place in the envelope provided. RESPOND If you attended the Advanced Challenge Meeting: return your sealed envelope personally to Rosie or Alan Hernly (campaign general chairs) or the church office by Sunday, September 17, For the congregation: Return your sealed envelope on Commitment Sunday, October 1, 2017.

It is our desire to pay off our debt with the gifts from the campaign over a 3-year period. The more funds we raise in our campaign the sooner we can begin the tuck-pointing and capstone repair to the original church structure and start our Contingency Fund for future building needs. The Chart of Gifts shown above provides a guide to the number and type of pledges needed to reach the $265,000 goal. This chart emphasizes that we do not expect everyone to give the same amount. We merely ask that each of you consider what God would like you to pledge towards our needs at Waynedale UMC. In this way we are all sacrificing equally, though the amounts may differ.
