1 Trinity Lutheran Church Proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ since W. Penn Street, Bedford, PA Phone: (814) Website: Office Hours: Monday-Friday; 8 am-noon & 1-3:30 pm For Emergency Contact after Office Hours: Pr Weinhold (410) Pr Short (814) The Second Sunday after the Epiphany Sunday, January 20, 2019 Eucharists at 8:30 and 11:00 am Children s Sunday School at 9:45 am Adult Forum will resume next Sunday, January 27 ~ Today s Hymns ~ Gathering Hymn: #311 Hail to the Lord s Anointed Communion Hymns: #553 Christ, Whose Glory Fills the Skies #313 O Lord, Now Let Your Servant #308 O Morning Star, How Fair & Bright! Sending Hymn: #688 Lord of Light ~ Today s Collect ~ P: Lord God, source of every blessing, you showed forth your glory and led many to faith by the works of your Son, who brought gladness and salvation to his people. Transform us by the Spirit of his love, that we may find our life together in him, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. C: Amen.

2 ~ Today s Readings ~ The First Reading: Isaiah 62:1-5 L: A Reading from Isaiah. For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until her vindication shines out like the dawn, and her salvation like a burning torch. The nations shall see your vindication, and all the kings your glory; and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will give. You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate; but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the Lord delights in you, and your land shall be married. For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your builder marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you. L: The Word of the Lord C: Thanks be to God. Psalmody: Psalm 36:5-10 Please join in singing the congregational refrain: Cantor: Your love, Lord, reaches to heaven, your truth to the skies. Your justice is like God s mountain, your judgements like the deep. Refrain. Cantor: To mortals and beasts you give protection. O Lord, how precious is your love. My God, the children of the earth find refuge in the shelter of your wings. Refrain. Cantor: They feast on the riches of your house; they drink from the stream of your delight. In you is the source of life and in your light we see light. Refrain. The Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 L: A Reading from 1 Corinthians. Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans, you were enticed and led astray to idols that could not speak. Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says "Let Jesus

3 be cursed!" and no one can say "Jesus is Lord" except by the Holy Spirit. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses. L: The Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. The Gospel Acclamation Please rise and join in singing the Gospel Acclamation s Refrain: Cantor: Jesus revealed his glory, and his disciples believe in him. Refrain. Holy Gospel: John 2:1-11 D: The Holy Gospel according to St. John the 2 nd Chapter C: Glory to you, O Lord. On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine." And Jesus said to her, "Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come." His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." Now standing there were six stone water jars for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to them, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them up to the brim. He said to them, "Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward." So they took it. When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom and said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you

4 have kept the good wine until now." Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. D: The Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ. ~ Today s Prayers & Intercessions ~ For the Church: that we may be a bold and faithful witness to hope and the promise of Christ for all people. Lord in your mercy. For a spirit of gratitude: that we may appreciate the abundance of God s generosity toward us and learn each day to rely more and more on his grace and mercy. Lord in your mercy For all engaged and married couples: that they might be signs of Gods love and care for each other and that all who see them might know the goodness and fidelity of God. Lord in your mercy For the leaders of our nation: that their hearts might be softened, and that fear might be removed so that cooperation might ensue. Give them insight, compassion, and integrity, that they might come to decisions that benefit those in their care and respect the dignity of all human persons. Lord in your mercy For warmth and safety: that as this winter presses on we might be safe in our travels and warm in our homes, and that we might have hearts to care for our neighbors that are not. Lord in your mercy. For all who have fallen ill or struggle with limitation: That they may know health and healing with each new day and that compassionate caregivers might come to their aid. Especially... Lord in your mercy For all who have died: Especially, that they might rest warmly in the care and presence of God and that we who mourn might know comfort and hope in the sure and certain promises of Christ. Lord in your mercy. For the Saints of the Church: especially we remember Saints Timothy and Titus, leaders and teachers of the faith. May their fidelity, their dedication, and their compassion, teach and inspire us to lives of fidelity, integrity, and compassion. Lord in your mercy
