C: Amen.

2 ~ Today s Readings ~ The First Reading: 1 Samuel 2:18-20, 26 L: A Reading from 1 Samuel. Samuel was ministering before the Lord, a boy wearing a linen ephod. His mother used to make for him a little robe and take it to him each year, when she went up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice. Then Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, and say, "May the Lord repay you with children by this woman for the gift that she made to the Lord"; and then they would return to their home. Now the boy Samuel continued to grow both in stature and in favor with the Lord and with the people. L: The Word of the Lord C: Thanks be to God. Psalmody: Paslm 148 Please join in singing the congregational refrain: Cantor: Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise God in the heights. Praise God, all you angels, praise him all you host. Refrain. Cantor: Let them praise the name of the Lord who alone is exalted. The splendor of God s name reaches beyond heaven and earth. Refrain. Cantor: God exalts the strength of the people, is the praise of all the saints, of the sons and daughters of Israel, of the people to whom he comes close. Refrain. The Second Reading: Colossians 3:12-17 L: A Reading from Colossians. As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and

3 spiritual songs to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. L: The Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. The Gospel Acclamation Please rise and join in singing the Gospel Acclamation s Refrain: Cantor: Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts; and let the word of Christ dwell in you richly. Refrain. Holy Gospel: Luke 2:41-52 D: The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the 2 nd Chapter C: Glory to you, O Lord. Now every year his parents went to Jerusalem for the festival of the Passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up as usual for the festival. When the festival was ended and they started to return, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it. Assuming that he was in the group of travelers, they went a day's journey. Then they started to look for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem to search for him. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him they were astonished; and his mother said to him, "Child, why have you treated us like this? Look, your father and I have been searching for you in great anxiety." He said to them, "Why were you searching for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?" But they did not understand what he said to them. Then he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them. His mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and in years, and in divine and human favor. D: The Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ.

4 ~ Today s Prayers & Intercessions ~ We pray for the Church: that, like Mary and Joseph, we may be attentive to God's words and deeds, and treasure them in our hearts. Lord, in your mercy We pray for our Bishops, Pastors, and Deacons in Christ: that they may exercise their ministries guided by the wisdom of the Spirit and the love of Christ. Lord, in your mercy We pray for the newly baptized, especially Lucas John, and his family: that washed and anointed in God s holy name, they may celebrate and rejoice in God s promise of life. Lord, in your mercy We pray for the members of our new Church Council: especially Wayne, Toni, Rick & Laura Alice, Wayne, Mary & Carol and Tammy, Lisa, Betsy and Wynn that they may know the joy of serving as they give guidance and leadership to our congregation s ministries. Lord, in your mercy We pray for God s blessing on the New Year: that we might be blessed with health and wholeness, and that God might inspire us to show His grace and mercy to others in new and meaningful ways. Lord, in your mercy We pray for those who make music in the Church: that their songs may inspire us, and, like the angels, give Glory to God. Lord, in your mercy We pray for the leaders of nations, and all who hold positions of responsibilities and authority: that they may work with a spirit of cooperation, serve to foster dialogue, build bridges of peace, and relieve the suffering of those in need. Lord, in your mercy We pray for the earth and her resources: that God will help us to be good stewards of creation and guide us to use the creation s gifts wisely. Lord, in your mercy We pray for the sick, and their caregivers, especially : that they may be comforted and inspired by God s mercies of healing and grace. Lord, in your mercy We pray for all who live in the midst of violence: that God will guide them along safe paths, dispel their fears, and bring forth a new day of peace and security. Lord, in your mercy
