A Thrilling Voice Is Sounding #436 Wake, Awake, for Night Is Flying #254 Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus Sending Hymn: #435 Lo! He Comes With Clouds Descending ~ Today s Collect ~ P: Stir up your power, Lord Christ, and come. By your merciful protection alert us to the threatening dangers of our sins, and redeem us for your life of justice, for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen.

2 ~ Today s Readings ~ The First Reading: Jeremiah 33:14-16 L: A Reading from Jeremiah. The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David; and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. And this is the name by which it will be called: "The Lord is our righteousness." L: The Word of the Lord C: Thanks be to God. Psalmody: Psalm 25:1-10 Please join in singing the congregational refrain: Cantor: Lord, make me know your ways. Lord, teach me your paths. Make me walk in your truth and teach me, for you are God my savior, in you I hope all the day long. Refrain. Cantor: The Lord is good and upright, showing the path to those who stray, guiding the humble in the right path, and teaching the way to the poor. Refrain. Cantor: God s ways are steadfastness and truth for those faithful to the covenant decrees. The Lord s friendship is for the God-fearing; and the covenant is revealed to them. Refrain. The Second Reading: 1 Thessalonians 3:9-13 L: A Reading from 1 Thessalonians. How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy that we feel before our God because of you? Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you face to face and restore whatever is lacking in your faith. Now may our God and Father himself and our Lord Jesus direct our way to you. And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, just as we abound in love for you. And may he so strengthen your hearts in holiness that you may be blameless before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints. L: The Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

3 The Gospel Acclamation Please rise and join in singing the Gospel Acclamation s Refrain: Cantor: Lord, show us your love; and grant us your salvation. Holy Gospel: Luke 21:25-36 D: The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the 21 st Chapter C: Glory to you, O Lord. "There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on the earth distress among nations confused by the roaring of the sea and the waves. People will faint from fear and foreboding of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see 'the Son of Man coming in a cloud' with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, stand up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." Then he told them a parable: "Look at the fig tree and all the trees; as soon as they sprout leaves you can see for yourselves and know that summer is already near. So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. "Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day does not catch you unexpectedly, like a trap. For it will come upon all who live on the face of the whole earth. Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man." D: The Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ.

4 ~ Today s Prayers & Intercessions ~ We pray for the Church: that during these days of Advent, the Spirit may draw us closer to the way of the Lord and fill us with confident hope as we wait on the goodness of God. Lord, in our mercy We pray for those who guide the Church and shepherd the Flock: that they may be faithful and devoted to their calling. Lord, in your mercy We pray for all the Faithful: that in trying and difficult times, we may not be numbed into complacency nor trapped by worry. Lord, in your mercy We pray for the gift of patience: that God will teach us how to wait in calmness as His plans unfold in our lives and our relationships. Lord, in your mercy We pray for all who are gathered here: that Christ may increase our love for one another and help us to overflow with generosity toward all who are in need. Lord, in your mercy We pray for all whose hopes are unfulfilled and whose dreams are dying: that God will inspire them with a new vision and new opportunities to use their gifts to build up the human community. Lord, in your mercy We pray for the leaders of nations, states, and communities: that they may govern with wisdom and discernment; and lead us in paths which are noble and just. Lord, in your mercy We pray for refugees and those who are fleeing violence: that God will lead them to safety and help them integrate into new communities where they may build new lives. Lord, in your mercy We pray for increasing respect for God s creation: that we may practice good stewardship of the earth and its resources so that all may benefit from God s gifts. Lord, in your mercy We pray for all who are ill: that they may know God s healing presence and lifted-up by His loving care. Especially today we remember Lord, in your mercy We pray for all who have died to this life, especially our family and friends that God will welcome them into the peace and joy of the Lamb, at the heavenly banquet. Lord, in your mercy We remember the Faithful Witness of the Saints who have gone before us, especially St John of Damascus, mystic; St Nicholas of Myra, ancient Bishop and Defender of the Faith, and St Ambrose of Milan, ancient Bishop and Teacher: with them, may we fervently pray, generously give, and faithfully share the love of Christ and witness to the hope of the Gospel. Lord, in your mercy
