Homeless Blessing Bags Our Summer mission project is collecting personal necessity items and handing out Homeless Blessing Bags.

Take as many completed bags as you would like to hand out to people in need (they don t need to be homeless!). Thank you for being the hands of Christ!

Our Hands. Homeless Blessing Bags Our Summer mission project is collecting personal necessity items and handing out Homeless Blessing Bags. A list of suggested items is on the table in Fellowship Hall along with many items already donated. Please consider contributing a reusable bag and then filling one up. Take as many completed bags as you would like to hand out to people in need (they don t need to be homeless!). Thank you for being the hands of Christ! 2nd Annual Family Picnic Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 17th, which is the date of our now annual Family Picnic open to the Community. We have reserved Pioneer Park for this date and will seek to get the lady who does face painting and balloon twisting to return to entertain the kiddos. Our members will provide the food and hospitality. Stay tuned. CASA Our Kids Need You! Plumas CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is currently recruiting for those who can serve on our Board of Directors. This is an ideal situation for volunteers who care a lot about children in foster care but have limited time to volunteer. Plumas CASA Board members meet once each month (usually Fridays at 3 pm) to oversee the CASA program and help with special fundraising events. The CASA Board helps to guide the best interests and practices of Plumas CASA. They need your help today. Board members come from a variety of backgrounds and areas within Plumas County. We could still use helpers for Registration, especially on Monday, July 17th starting around 8:15 am. The more adult help we have, the better this will go. If you can make it for any day, we d greatly appreciate some extra kid watchers. It s going to be a week of great fun learning about Jesus. Here are the daily themes: Monday: Jesus Cares Jesus is the Good Shepherd (John 10:1-18) Tuesday: Jesus Provides Jesus Feeds 5,000 (Mark 6:30-44, John 6:1-14) Wednesday: Jesus Leads Jesus Tells about a Sower (Matthew 13:1-23) Thursday: Jesus Forgives Jesus Tells about a Lost Son (Luke 15:11-32) Friday: Jesus is Our Savior Jesus Appears to Mary in the Garden (John 20:1-18) Here are the stations the kids will visit each day: Barn Raising to hear the daily Bible story, Bales of Fun to move around and play games, Bountiful Blessings to fill up on snacks, Udderly Cool Crafts to create fun crafts, Green Pastures for discovery through science, and Good Times Music will be included in the opening and closing sessions.

Bible Study Our group Bible Studies are on hiatus for the rest of the summer. Please make time to study God s word on your own.

You can find these on the shelf in back of church or on top of the bookcase near the backdoor in Fellowship Hall.

Alan has been busy doing some renovation and planting some flowers in the pattern of a pretty heart. Fred is making an easel and palette.

We are using hearts as our artistic focus. Pastor Kendrah is thinking of making some seed art signs to say things like We Ag and Art to try to tie the theme to our planting.

Fair Garden and Table Settings Another way to encounter God in addition to the Bible is spending time in creation. What better way to do that then digging in the dirt at our church s Fair Garden? Alan has been busy doing some renovation and planting some flowers in the pattern of a pretty heart. Fred is making an easel and palette. Marlene has been painting pinecones to be used in an artistic way and she and Gina have done some pruning and weeding. But we can always use more help! The theme of the Fair this year is Art to Ag. We are using hearts as our artistic focus. Pastor Kendrah is thinking of making some seed art signs to say things like We Ag and Art to try to tie the theme to our planting. If you would be interested in helping with that, please let Pastor know. We have also decided to take on Table Settings again this year. We are looking for items to go with the following four themes: Kentucky Derby Luncheon Lunch at the Library Thanksgiving Dinner Golf Tournament Brunch Please let us know if you have any items you could donate for these themes or if you d like to help do the flower bouquets each day! Plumas County Behavioral Health Mental Health Services Act A DRAFT three-year plan for providing Mental Health and Alcohol/Drug Services in Plumas County is now available to the public for review and comment. Please consider participating in this process, especially if you know someone this affects. A copy of the draft plan can be found here: or can be picked up at PCIRC. A public meeting is scheduled for Wed. August 2nd at Noon at 555 Main St. (The Planning & Building Permits office.) Talk to Pastor if you have questions.

PASTOR S LETTER Dear Church Family, It s summer! For many, that means going on vacation. While you re away, please don t forget about church! Attend a church in another city or country and when you come back, I d love to hear all about it. Are there any ideas you could share to enhance our worship experience here? For many, summer is a chance to go new places and even try some new things. Such experiences can help us think creatively and even inspirationally. As I look forward to the 5th anniversary of my ordination and my call to Our Savior Lutheran Church at the end of August, I realize that perhaps some of what we re doing, especially in worship has become routine and perhaps lacks creativity. While I realize that routine is comfortable, sometimes it is good to shake things up a bit to help us look upon our faith with fresh eyes. I am reminded that soon we will celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. That event was all about taking a second look at what had become routine and calling out those practices that had gone astray. I invite conversation about what would inspire you in worship. Should we seek out a diversity of musicians to come share their gifts with us? How about artists? How could we enliven our worship space? Personally, I would love to see some additional symbols related to baptism. Once I visited a church which had a stream of water that ran under the floor (covered by thick clear plastic) and up to the baptismal font. That sure was a great reminder each week of baptism! We may not be able to do that, but what creative ways could we use symbols to remind us of key tenants of our faith? The possibilities are endless because God created everything in our world. We can use God s creation to enhance our worship of the Creator. Let s talk and let s dream together! In Christ, Pastor Kendrah
